Using the users ldap directory as an address book
« on: July 24, 2008, 11:11:09 pm »
I'm trying to use the ldap directory as a address book, but then I realize that eBox put the "User name" on the "cn" and "uid" attributes and the Full Name on "sn", so both Evolution and Thunderbird shows  as "Display Name" the "User name", Thunderbird also shows "First Name" as blank and the "Full Name" we put on eBox interface, appear on "Last Name".

My question is, is it safe to modify directly on the ldap directory this attribute show the desire information?, I guess only uid is important to eBox, isn't it?

If not, then I would have to recreate my Users organizational unit and use something like this[1], but keeping everything on sync, would be hard.

Thanks in advance

Currently it is not possible because the 'cn' attribute is used in some lookups. Maybe we should change this in the future.
