big troubles with installation of dhcp on hardy

Hi!
This is my second installation of ebox. the first one was fucked up with some misconfiguration of ldap after updating from 99 to 101. But actually it went fine, dhcp without anything.

I reinstalled hardy-server 64 freshly, added the repositories from ebox and installed ebox alone. Done
Then I installed network, no problem...
Then I added dhcp...fails, kills ebox:
during install it fails to start up dhcpd (invoke-rc.d: initscript dhcp3-server, action "start" failed.)
and the it goes wild:

I tried several combination of uninstall, reinstall (installing, configuring and running dhcpd first) without any success. Funny enough, the ebox suddenly is not reachable anymore for some time, minutes later it is...is not...is...

Unfortunately I have no idea what's happening, which is bad cause I loved the concept of ebox.

Ok, Daniel, let's track down your issue:

Hi Javi, since my ebox install (i have it deinstalled at the moment) I have difficulties to reach the net (for apt). Im looking into it right now, so I can reproduce the problem and I'll be right back.

I couldn't manage to get internet access again after deinstalling ebox, so I did a quick reinstall of the whole OS (hardy herno 8.04.1 64amd) and here is what I get this time:

I rebooted after install, mat upgrade and dist-upgrade, reboot
I entered ebox to the apt sources and did the install as you say ('apt-get install "^ebox-.*'). And guess what? This time dhcp is there.

Actually I didn't want to install things I don't need like mail, cv, squid, dns etc....but if everything else works out I can live with that load.

But unless I really configured dhcp, after configuring network to static I've once again lost my internet connection. Maybe you can help me with that.

I have networ interface (eth0):
nam: default
static
192.168.1.3
255.255.255.0

dns:
two nameservers by my isp (autmatically entered by ebox)

routes
none

gateway
192.168.1.1 (my router) interface eth0

My internet is connected to a router that connects to a xdsl modem.
For dhcp server I use 192.168.1.1 as gateway as well, right? And search domain is my local domainname, isn't it? Or should I incorporate the DNS function?

Sorry about those questions, I really appreciate your help.

ps..: and as it happened before, evey now and then I simply loose the connection to the server (ebox isn't reachable and ssh refuses new connections)

Hi Javi!

After playing around for some time ereything seems stable and running. Even internet is again available, it just took an hour...the devil knows why. So sorry for the panic, after one reinstall of the whole system everything's fine.

Almost:
there seams to be a bug in the software module, at least it says so. And it refuses to show the components versions. This happened before wth the 99 version as well as now with 101

And what bugs me most right now, I already posted it in the other thread, is that I do not know how to add a machine. Simply joining the domain doesn't work. Windows says 'user not found' or #not part of the domain' or something (my win is german). Maybe you can give the directive about the correct way to join an ebox domain.

ps.: ebox is a great piece of software. it wil mix up server business...
