[SOLVED] WAN Failover doesn't work as expected.
« on: August 28, 2010, 12:56:04 pm »
Hi all,

I'm using the Zentyal 2.0-rc2 on top of Sun VirtualBox.

I have 1 internal(LAN) and 2 external interface(WAN) setup for my Zentyal box.

LAN - eth0
WAN1 - eth1
WAN2 - eth2

I have enable Multi-wan, Balance traffic, Traffic shaping and WAN fail over.

I tested by switched of the WAN2 modem and the WAN Failover service disable "eth2 " as Gateway  within minute. But after I switched on the WAN2 modem, it doesn't enable the eth2 as gateway after few hours even a restart.

Aren't the WAN failover suppose to re-enable the eth2 after testing the connection is up? Or there is some other place to configure?

Thanks & regards,
Max.

Have you added the proper failover rules?

this is my rules set for eth1 and eth2

As the rules apply when the connection is down, I assume the setting is correct. Somehow, is doesn't re-enable after the connection is up.

Hi maxchock,

I think your problem is related with time between checks. You try 10 probes each time every 10 secons. Maybe checks are overlapping, producing your problems.

You can try to increment time between checks and tell us what happens :)

Thanks for your feedback!

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I've set the "Time between checks" to 20 seconds and "Number of probes" to 5, but still not getting the connection re-enable back.

First of all, make sure you don't have an open session with unsaved changes on the Zentyal interface, otherwise the failover won't do anything to prevent conflicts with the sysadmin.

You can try to lower the success ratio, I'm using ping to host rules with the IP address of my DNS servers (7 probes, 20% success ratio) and it works flawlessly. Take into account that when a link is down, all the pings fail, so having a low success ratio is not bad.

Hi all,

I have similar problem with last ebox version 2.0.3 from launchpad repository installed.

please find my configuration below

eth0: LAN
eth1: wan1
eth2: wan2

gateways

        ICON   10.1.1.254  through eth1
        Armentel   192.168.1.1 through eth2

My problem is that I for sure know that I don't have connection to google.com through interface 2 but wan fail over enables gateway Armentel. This is leading to unstable internet connection as I'm using Balance traffic feature.

Thanks in advance

Could you please advice what could be the problem.

Unfortunately not yet.

Will migrate some other multypathing solution in case if no solution will be available.

Hi,

The 2.0.4 version of the network module fixed some problems with failover, have you tried to upgrade?

I confirm that the issue is fixed for me. WAN Failover is working fine now.

I am running 2.0.5 (upgraded direct from 2.0.2)

Thanks guys!

OK, just to avoid confusion:

I am running ebox (core) 2.0.5 and ebox-network 2.0.4

Thanks again for the fix!
