[SOLVED] ping: unknown host
« on: August 20, 2010, 11:33:01 am »
Hi everyone

I have an error enabling "Users and Groups"
Code: [Select]
Some modules reported error when saving changes . More information on the logs in /var/log/ebox/

The following modules failed while saving their changes, their state is unknown: users

The problem is related with sudo and hostname...every tread I read till now doesn't solve my issue

in my /var/log/ebox/ebox.log there is a "sudo" error
Code: [Select]
guerra@fw-guerra:~$ tail  /var/log/ebox/ebox.log
2010/08/20 11:21:23 INFO> Base.pm:799 EBox::Module::Base::_hook - Running hook: /etc/ebox/hooks/firewall.postservice 1
2010/08/20 11:21:23 INFO> Base.pm:153 EBox::Module::Base::save - Restarting service for module: users
2010/08/20 11:21:24 ERROR> Error.pm:182 Error::throw - /usr/bin/sudo -p sudo: /var/lib/ebox/tmp/4dfVSfeo54.cmd 2> /var/lib/ebox/tmp/stderr raised the following sudo error: sudo: unable to resolve host fw-guerra

Error in creating temporary file

2010/08/20 11:21:24 ERROR> Global.pm:566 EBox::Global::saveAllModules - The following modules failed while saving their changes, their state is unknown: users

I think this is the problem
Code: [Select]
guerra@fw-guerra:~$ ping fw-guerra
ping: unknown host fw-guerra

and then also all sudo operation... for example
Code: [Select]
guerra@fw-guerra:~$ sudo tail /var/log/ebox/ebox.log
sudo: unable to resolve host fw-guerra

don't know if it's related, but I haven't /etc/nsswitch.conf file

Hi Paolo,

I have to admit - you have a lot of good information there :-) But you still miss that little basic one - version numbers of eBox/Zentyal and the module versions.

Take a look at the post that is linked to in my signature. Just a little more to give people a chance to get started. BTW - User corner problems is a well known one on 1.5 and on 2.0rc1. But that belongs in the betaforum, not here  ;) But no worries, if you are using 1.5 or 2.0rc1, I'll just move the thread over.
Regards,

Oceanwatcher

Hi.. sorry for my late answer but I was in my holiday's week :)

Here I am now...

so here the information:
the eBox version is the 1.5 on Ubuntu 10.04

those are the versions of packages (I just see that there are some updates)
Zentyal - Common Library     1.5.8-0ubuntu1~ppa1~lucid1
Zentyal - Core    1.5.12-0ubuntu1~ppa1~lucid1
Zentyal - Firewall    1.5.5-0ubuntu1~ppa1~lucid1
Zentyal - Network Configuration    1.5.6-0ubuntu1~ppa1~lucid1
Zentyal - Network Services    1.5.3-0ubuntu1~ppa1~lucid1
Zentyal - Software Management    1.5.4-0ubuntu1~ppa1~lucid1
Zentyal - Users and Groups    1.5.7-0ubuntu1~ppa1~lucid1

I didn't mention it, cause I don't think it is directly related eBox issue

I didn't use "user corner", cause I configure my eBox like a simple as possible proxy/firewall

just for knowledge I solved my issue
[italian] http://forum.ubuntu-it.org/index.php/topic,408055.0.html

In few words, I create the file /etc/nsswitch.con and I paste this
Code: [Select]
# /etc/nsswitch.conf
#
# Example configuration of GNU Name Service Switch functionality.
# If you have the `glibc-doc-reference' and `info' packages installed, try:
# `info libc "Name Service Switch"' for information about this file.
