Grouping Computer Labs
« on: March 11, 2010, 04:41:11 pm »
Hi! I am evaluating ebox platform for our University and I would like to inquire if
this is possible in ebox.

1. I want to group my computers per laboratory, say LAB1, LAB2, LAB3, LAB4, LAB5
each lab. will be housing 50 computers.

2. I would like to have control on the Internet Access per lab. Meaning Internet
access on the lab. will be per request only.

3. Can this be done on ebox (gateway mode) 3 NIC's? Can someone point me on the
direction that I have to take to be able to implement this.

Thank you for the great piece of software.

Yes, you can define objects representing each lab in eBox and then use that objects in firewall rules or proxy policies.

I recommend you to have a look at the documentation:

Yes, I have read the documentation, what can you advise? do I have to issue IP's
via DHCP or would it be static IP's? If its static IP's how do I group them?

Maybe you can look at their control center. eBox is having a promotion trial of their control center for 15days. See if it suits your requirement. Thanks

If you don't have enough NIC's (one for each lab's net) you can't use DHCP, you wold need to go for a static configuration or a maybe a mix of both.
