Question about encryption of volumes
« on: April 28, 2008, 01:49:11 pm »
Hi there

I have a general question regarding the possibilities of hdd / volume encryption.
Since eBox is installed "on top" of a distro I thought it should
be possible to encrypt certain drives or volumes with e.g. Truecrypt.

So my brief question is as follows:

I have one HDD for the system itself (eBox) and 2 HDD's for the user's data
(Samba) that should work as Raid 1 AND that should be encrypted. From my
little Linux experience this should be possible, shoulnd't it?

I don't need a step by step manual for doing this, as long as we're talking
about the basics of Linux, Software Raid + encryption. But if there's
some special configuration neccessary in conjunction with eBox I would very
much appreciate any hint or advise.  :D

Best regards
Martin

Btw: Although I have just few Linux skills, I would like to offer some help
in translating certain files, manuals etc. to german (which is my native lang.).
If you're interested just drop me line (or simply let me know)

eBox does not manage (only some reporting) RAID devices neither hard disks partitions, so no problem might arise.

You may translate eBox to German if you like. Register in our translation web page [1] and start doing it :). I have found that it's completely translated  8).
