2x16 or 4x20 LCD addons for eBox?
« on: October 18, 2009, 04:51:19 am »
Has anyone given any thought to possibly running an LCD on a headless eBox setup.. you know displaying stats like current interface usage or, well basically whatever you'd want?

Ipcop had some addons for this and I know you can on Linux itself.  But maybe being able to configure the setting and whats being displayed from the eBox gui?

That's a cool idea..
How do these lcds attach to the box? USB?

Another interesting twist of this idea would be to display the stats on a monitor attached to the box, but not have to leave it logged in..

Well back in the day you could only use the LPT port.. but then came along serial and now USB.  Theres MANY sites selling usb kits these days..but the DIY guy liek me solders their own HD44780 compatible and uses parallel :)

Oh yeah.. Ubuntu (or linux itself) has a few daemons for it one of which is LCDProc.  Lets you display quite a few different things on the external lcd and supports all the different interface types.
