Internet Browsing doesnot work!
« on: June 05, 2009, 04:27:59 pm »
I have installed the Ebox server 1.0-1 with eth0 & eth1.

eth0 (WAN) :
ip : 192.168.1.2
mask : 255.255.255.0
dns : 192.168.1.1
gw :192.168.1.1

The 192.168.1.1 is my ADSL router which is connected to the internet (ISP)
Browsing works fine on the ebox server.

eth1 (LAN) :
ip : 10.0.1.2
mask : 255.255.255.0
dns : 10.0.1.0

DHCP and DNS are enabled for local LAN.

The issue is the clients cannot access the internet at all. I have tried playing with the gateway setting but no luck.

I have used the guide at http://forum.ebox-platform.com/index.php?topic=896.0

Please help

Thanks

Thank you

I have created a firewall rule as well :

Filtering rules for internal networks
Decision:
Source:    Any
Destination:    Any
Service:    Any

Still it does not work

Hi ZAKhan,

Have you marked eth0 as external? Which default gateway and DNS servers have you set in DHCP server?

Don't forget to set proper name resolvers in eBox through Network -> DNS

I have already tried you suggestions but nothing works till now. Could it be an issue with DNS conflicting with the WAN DNS?

I am connected to Internet via ADSL connection with dynamic IP.

Try step by step solution:

* Ping eBox
* Ping your ADSL router
* Ping outside

If pinging is working, then there is a firewall issue. Check your Filtering rules for internal networks. Test with IP addresses first, then when you're sure that works, then test DNS system.

Best,

Hi everyone!

First off all thanks to all the community behind ebox! it's a great piece of software!

I have the same problem described here!

I'm using ubuntu 8.04.2 64bits and a similar configuration, the only thing is that i not using a adsl modem but a cable one and i have eth0 for internal network and eth1 for external.

I can however "fix" the problem... By uncheking the external box on eth1 saving changes and doing the opposite again i have internet on bith ebox server and dhcp clients...

If i just uncheck the external option on eth1 and save changes i get internet on ebox server... putting the external check box back on i get internet to all clients...

Any ideias on what could be wrong?

Thank's once more!

Check [1] for a network scenario for eBox.

If you check an interface as external, then you have to open up ports in firewall to browse the Internet again since eBox is secure by default.

Thanks for your reply sixstone!

I think i have the correct Scenario Example 1.

Everything works ok until i reboot the ebox machine with the steps i told before, then i have to uncheck, save, check and save again to make thing's work again.

I have already configure the firewall and i dont have to do it again after that "fix". It just works after saving changes!

It seems that is some template from ebox that is not being changed or aplied correctly after reboot... but i«m just gesting because i'm comparing some files and i'vent found anything yet...

Thanks again!

I found that if i restart the network service manualy i get the same result... Internet works ok on server and clients!

Network service seems to start with erros or not starting at all! I haven't changed any files manualy and have done all configurations on ebox...

Any clue on what could be causing this?

Thanks!

Ok i figured it out....

My problem was the gateway... after i changed it properly everything started working just fine...

Thanks again!
