RAID setup as Secondary Drive
« on: November 13, 2012, 04:12:19 am »
Thanks to any one who can help with this!  I am trying out Zentyal as a PDC/File Server for a small business (10-20 desktops) and would like to place the OS on one SSD and the data on a RAID 5 array using a SuperMicro mobo's on-board SATA RAID controller.  When I go through the expert installation, the installer seems to recognize the array when it comes time to partitioning and installing (3 x 2TB drives) the OS.  However, after installation and when I have Zentyal booted up, I am at a loss as to how to successfully set up that RAID array as a shared single drive on the domain.  I installed Gparted and it is showing me the three individual drives but not the array!  Thanks for your guidance.

Gparted Doesn't play well with MDADM RAID.

It might be easier to set the raid array as /home when you partition the drives.
Then partition the SSD as (1.5x RAM) for swap and the rest as /

Then when you add your samba shares just add the share path as "Directory under Zentyal" that will be on the RAID under /home/samba/share/"yoursharename"
