Cant ping external router
« on: March 26, 2012, 07:34:30 pm »
In my setup I have
eth0 external 192.168.0.105
eth1 internal 192.168.1.1
router 192.168.0.1

eth1 has dhcp all clients get addresses and can ping etho
but cant ping the router

I have included screens from the various tabs

Thanks if you can spot the mistakes(s)

You are dealing with a misconfiguration.
DHCP on eth1 is not configured as it should.
Why do you have DHCP enabled on eth0? If it gets the IP from your router, then don't enable DHCP on the external interface.
On eth1 do not use "custom IP", instead set it as "Zentyal".

These are only some of the things I could see, you may have other mis-configurations. I recommend reading the online docs.

Cheers.

Thanks, by the time I had posted I had tried various things and just stopped digging further, but
I have disabled dhcp on eth0 and it has a static address on the same segment as the router, but outside its dhcp range. I also made the changes to eth1.

I now can ping any internal or external ip addresses and hostnames ...There is browsing on the server but none on the clients.
On eth1 is a router which I have in AP mode, with all NAT/firewall and DHCP turned off and the clients can get on the network, but cant access internet.

Maybe it's that the the solution looks different to what Im currently trying.. I initially had a wireless router AP and clients, to this I wanted a zentyal as gateway and added an external wired router and made the wireless one an AP. Seprate elements seem to work, but I never seem to get the whole thing working

Thanks for your help

About the wired router: Some of us (me included) prefer to let Zentyal do all the routing. That means no added router on the external interface.
As far as your AP, I have it set up this way and it works fine, you should be able to do the same thing.
I don't know how you configured the AP, but try to use the LAN ports instead of the WAN port and the clients on that AP should be on the same network segment as eth1.
Your clients should get their IP, gateway and DNS by DHCP from the Zentyal box. Use tracert and ping to troubleshoot issues.
If you're still stuck, then post more details about your setup.

Cheers.

It works! Thanks for all your help.

I just needed a static route to the subnet added to the external router .
