Installation and Upgrades / Re: zentyal 3.5 Samba issues
« on: September 12, 2014, 07:58:48 pm »
The update appeared yesterday, depending on your location it may take a bit longer.
But you should already have it by now.

Issue is resolved.

Cheers.

For me the issue has been solved by todays printer and DNS module updates.
I got an error when saving ACL's on one share, but this is a content issue, not a Samba issue.
Did about 7 shares and 6 went OK so no problem.

Another issue I had with nt_status_access denied is also solved.
I had to set permissions on the root of the drive to be able to share a subfolder.
755 on the mountpoint did the trick, all shares are now accessible by normal users.

Happy camper, now on to the Squid mess, that one is still open.

Cheers.

Edit: bragrabb, if your issue is solved after updating, please mark the topic as solved.

Bug reports have already been sent by multiple users, the tracker is full of Samba issues at the moment.
We are desperately waiting for a fix. Server is down for days now, please fix it asap.

Cheers.

Thanks ian for explaining the procedure to gain SSH root access to the server.
Granted, I never tried it that way but will surely try it on a new install.

Cheers.

Same issue here, Samba module can't save changes. I don't use guest access.
The proposed option of deleting Samba also deletes other modules, Squid proxy being one of them.
The server is providing Internet access to my users so I can't have downtime associated with the removal of a bunch of modules.

This is not good.

Cheers.

There is currently no option to report the bug inside the red window.
The only button visible in the red window is the "OK" button.
Clicking it will make the red window disappear, but I doubt the bug is being reported at the same time.

You may want to mention that Ubuntu 14.04.1 (Zentyal 3.5) does NOT allow ssh root out of the box.
That means that WinSCP root access won't work.
It is necessary to modify files on the server to make ssh work.

Same problem here, nasty Samba issue.
My shares are not accessible and that's really giving me headache.
Users complaining and the sysadmin (me) is an asshole.

Cheers.

In other words: Not all is lost. There is still hope :-)
Thanks for the comments.

Looking at the bug tracker, I see that most previous Zentyal releases are no longer maintained.
The recommendation is "upgrade to a newer version".
I've just installed Zentyal 3.5, but Zentyal 4.0 is will be released next month.
So the obvious question is: Will bugs in Zentyal 3.5 be fixed after Zentyal 4.0 is released?

Cheers.

Translate the whole blog post would be time consuming, but you can use Google translate or similar.

In /etc/zentyal/samba.conf uncomment the line that says "unmanaged acls".
In /etc/samba/smb.conf scroll down to the section shares, place a comment "#" before the line that says "acl_xattr:ignore system acls=yes"
Then change the permissions with chgrp, chown and chmod from the console (from windows you can use Putty or WinSCP)
You can still create the shares from Zentyal.
Restart Samba, changes will not be overwritten.

This should do it, basically it's old style system acl's as in previous Zentyal versions.
I'm certainly not impressed with Samba 4. At this point it is not workable.

Cheers.

Same error here, but mine was a clean install.
Only after updating Samba on 2-9 I got this error.
Shared folders are not accessible by users.

Found the error in Zentyal.log:
Code: [Select]
2014/09/02 19:26:56 ERROR> GlobalImpl.pm:662 EBox::GlobalImpl::saveAllModules - Failed to save changes in module samba: Can't locate object method "throw" via package "Unable to load dafault file at /usr/share/perl5/EBox/Samba/SmbClient.pm line 52, <GEN0> line 2800.
" (perhaps you forgot to load "Unable to load dafault file at /usr/share/perl5/EBox/Samba/SmbClient.pm line 52, <GEN0> line 2800.
"?) at /usr/share/perl5/EBox/Module/Base.pm line 238, <GEN0> line 2807.

Cheers.

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Making Zentyal More
« on: September 03, 2014, 09:01:49 pm »
Awesome tose, I'm going that route also and this will come in handy.
You're basically telling pfsense to use Zentyal as a server to authenticate incoming VPN traffic.

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Zentyal blocks amazon and imdb?
« on: September 03, 2014, 08:53:51 pm »
Zentyal does not block anything out of the box. I practically live on Amazon and IMDB, never had a problem.
If you can't access those pages, start with disabling proxy on Zentyal.
Check your ruleset if you're not blocking anything less obvious.
Try to access the page using a web proxy, for example hidemyass or kproxy.
Try to ping the server (do a lookup first) and do a traceroute.

Cheers.

Installation and Upgrades / Re: /Boot full - resize options not working
« on: September 03, 2014, 08:47:50 pm »
Hello,

Do not resize /boot. You may have problems booting the server afterwards.
Instead, if your /boot volume is full because of old kernels, remove the old kernels and leave only the previous kernel.
I've done this successfully on two Zentyal servers.

Cheers.
