I'm troubleshooting this for a penniless non-profit as I have time.

I'll attempt to keep this simple.

Four various windows clients as a workgroup sharing an old database software package and a few documents with file sharing.

Originally the database file and a few documents were shared from a windows xp laptop.

A few years ago a clearos 5.2 server was installed to share the database file and documents.

A decision was made to transition to Zentyal server a few months ago.

Two issues have arisen with Zentyal 3.3.

Once the database file was moved to the Zentyal 3.3 server the db has been slow to load and slow to update as new records were input.

When new documents are added to the Zentyal share, there is an intermittent delay in the windows clients ability to view the documents.

One thing I have observed in testing is that when a windows client, (xp, vista and win7) opens the local database software and loads the database from the Zentyal server, it takes about 56 seconds, consistently.

But, when the clearos server is brought online it takes the same client 5 seconds to load the local software and load the database file from the Zentyal server.

When the clearos server is offline the same clients again take 56 seconds to load the db file.

I see a number of general functionality complaints about samba 4 on Zentyal 3.3 on these forums lately.

Obviously, the users are very worried about corrupting the database.

I have had to move the database files back to clearos for their piece of mind.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how I can continue troubleshooting to resolve this so they can use Zentyal instead of an old version of ClearOS?

adding last post about continuing tests from the bottom of this thread for convenience.

Created another Zentyal 3.3 server6 with only file sharing and the required components intalled,

Created the same user and share on server6, copied the db file from server7 to the share on server6.

DB on server6 opens in any client in 2 to 5 seconds.

Copied db from new server6 to server7, db on server7 opens with any client in 3 to 5 seconds.

Shutdown new server6, server5 is and has been offline.

DB on server7 takes 40 to 50 seconds to open from any client.

Restart server6, DB on server7 takes 2 to 4 seconds to open on any client.

Wtf?

Anybody have any ideas?

Shutdown server7.

DB on server6 takes 2 to 4 seconds to open on any client.

Sigh.
