v3.5, I'm looking for the log that has the ip's of the external clients requesting pages from the zentyal web server.
The only log I have found so far for apache has the local ip 127.0.0.1 because of haproxy I believe.

Anybody have any thoughts on what make nethserver any better than clearos?

I'm kinda invested in the ubuntu / debian world, my clearos installs are kinda out there.

After ignoring Zentyal for a few months I dropped back by to see that 4.1 has removed more features, that has to be a record for any product, Zentyal is surely becoming just like I said months ago, nothing more than an OpenChange gui, curious market choice.

As mburrillo said, don't let the door hit you in the ass, lol!

Now I'm kinda curious how long all my 3.3 installs will last.

LOL!
Welcome to Zentyal, where the community is a couple of people, support is rare and the developers have... other things to do.

I can't answer your question, but, if it was me, and it's what I do with ownCloud, which keeps the calendar in the database, is to use the client to export / backup the calendar, instead of trying to do it at the server, note, I run my servers in vm's and just keep copies of the whole thing, it's way easier than trying to waste time with duplicity, etc, though I do have some rsync scripts for the mail stores and shares.

Hello fasttech,

It did tell you which modules are going to be removed as you can check in the code here:

https://github.com/Zentyal/zentyal/blob/3.5/main/core/src/templates/upgrade.mas#L121

and recommend you to read carefully the 4.0 announcement in here

https://github.com/Zentyal/zentyal/blob/3.5/main/core/src/templates/upgrade.mas#L131

Maybe we can have done more, but we are trying to improve so please feel free to comment any suggestion in that direction.

Sorry to disappoint you, and thanks for your comments.

Cheers!!

Cheers indeed, I know what's up, I've been around, I just feel for those that see an upgrade offer and are all "oooohh shiny, click.... boom... what tha?!?"

I just wouldn't do that to the users.

Even at my most evil I would have put a line in that upgrade to 4 box that said something like;

WARNING, Upgrading to v4 will remove functionality, it is highly recommended you read - link to roadmap or whatever - before clicking the upgrade button.

The link they put on there, a user had to read through all the 'cool new stuff' before they come to a paragraph that says In Addition... blah, blah, we took a bunch of stuff out...

That's just not a friendly, community, way of doing things.

For me, I just can't imagine a scenario where an updating from 3.* to 4 is worthwhile.

There are so many people that are going to be screwed.
It'll be too easy to hit that big upgrade to 4 button.

I honestly believe this is deliberate on the developers part.
Maybe they're angry because they're not making money, or maybe they're just sadistic, it is kind of funny to take advantage of the ignorant freeloaders, but hey... karma, maybe... right?

The poster is lucky he still has a running server.

Installation and Upgrades / Re: zentyal 4.0 as a webserver

In Zentyal 4, anything you do from the gui only affects nginx such as alternate ports.

I believe for a default owncloud install in 4 you'll need to setup apache from the cli or install webmin.

best to read this thread so you know what you're getting into before you invest too much time.

By the way, we are already documenting how to replace all that functionality not present in 4.0 ;)

I really not trying to be an ass but I feel the need to point this out.

This forum is full of posts from folks suffering failures of all the modules working together in versions 3.whatever.
Versions 3.whatever being the semi official ? community version of the all in one.
Most of these posts are unanswered and or have no responses because of poor posting or simply no one able or interested in trying to help.

Now, v4 will be released without all these modules but with 'documentation' for the community to try and make unsupported modules work.

If there were so many problems, many I experienced myself, with the unsupported community version of the all in one, who in the hell would dare waste their time trying to make v4 work with other functionality especially when the next core update would be liable to render the server inop?

Seems like a wasted exercise, I wonder how many people will bang their heads against their desks trying to follow this 'documentation', fruitlessly.

Now I'm waiting to see the finished, polished v4, to see if I can use it, but years of experience with Zentyal guarantees I won't waste a minute trying to get v4 to do anything it isn't already written to do and I'll continually recommend no one else does either.

All I can say is, thank God for vm's and snapshots.

v3.5.2
Mail Filter - Files ACL

The filter only occasionally blocks zip files, it will block exe consistently but not zip, which ironically, was the only reason for installing the Mail Filter module.

Does anyone have any experience getting the files filter to actually work?

Zentyal made a working, full featured sbs solution available.

Now, it's been butchered and morphed into something new, an openchange gui it appears.

So now, the suggestion is that the community, rebuild the old, from scratch, a community the developers appear to have abandoned years ago.

I don't see that as something I can justify investing in.

As per Zarafa, I tried it a couple times with a couple of groups and it was problematic and not liked, so I can't see being any help there.
