Installation and Upgrades / Re: Web server problem

Hi ichat,

Thankyou for such a swift response, although not the one I was expecting.

Im sorry If Ive upset you, it certainly wasnt my intention. Did you actually read my main post in feature request?

Im not sure how you feel it was an attempt to "irritate us into helping you" let me explain my thought process, and perhaps you will see my intentions were genuine.

1) I searched for OWNCLOUD on the forum - I could see a few mentions of it, but no reported successes.

2) I thought it would be a good feature, so I posted the request in the New Feature Request part of the forum. - If you read it, you will see I explain my request & its merits but also go on to acknowlege others work, and question  if anyone else has actually had any success they can share with the community not yet posted about.

3) As there were already 3 partial posts on OWNCLOUD, I wanted to bring all those working on it already together. It could save lots of time, and it might have already been solved.
Perhaps it would have been better to PM them?
I thought the quickest way was to point them in the direction of my post and bring like minded people together.

Sorry I reallly do not think I have spammed anyone. SPAM to me would be posting links to my topic in many random irrelevant places.
What I did was "direct mail" targeted at 3 posts with OWNCLOUD mentioned in them.  (for me this about OWNCLOUD not Apache) SO it was only posted in three additional topics - to the people I was looking for, who were already tinkering. Highlighting them to the feature request, bringing the few threads together, otherwise how would they know, until they physically looked?  If you search for Apache thousands of posts come up, but search for OWNCLOUD and only 3 come up.  And for me, this has begun not about Apache but about OWNCLOUD & Zentyal, forgive my ignorance here.

Im not a Zentyal Guru, so hence my asking questions, that to me at least, seemed the most relevant direct way.  My ignorance is simply lack of knowlege/experience in this area.

By posting in feature request, was the start of me putting my "effort where my mouth is"  Zentyal isnt plain old Ubuntu server, that is documented already. Hence my asking the community  specifially about Zentyal & Owncloud combined. Since Zentyal has its own framework.  I had already started my research, or I would not have known to post links in those three topics that already mention OWNCLOUD.

Im sorry if I have unknowingly broken any rules.  If there is a better way to have gone about things, Im willling to listen.

I hope the above explains my thought process well enough you can see I wasnt trying to wind anyone up, just seek collate information in the quickest fashion.

Please know, I truly didnt think It would upset folk by highlighting others to my making OWNCLOUD a feature request of Zentyal.   If people come back to me, I'll only be too happy to collate all the data with my own experience (which is currently little)  and build it into a tutorial with screen shots for others to use.

Hi,
Thanks for the response.

Can you explain why the online manual actually includes a screenshot that displays the error that people are reporting?

Hi,

If you search there are quite a few queries regarding VM Management.

None of them have been answered.

The development team of Zentyal are not interested in offering anything other than paid support, as it has gone commercial now.

I dont think it actually works, or someone would have been able to answer at least one of the many queries.

Hi Robb,

Thanks for your reply. I do agree with you, community efforts are important. No one has written one for this Zentyal Virtual Machine management as yet. The main docs would be acceptable if it worked.
Amazingly IN the documentation the screenshot of the VM networking tab even displays the networking error (no network in dropdown to bridge to) people have spoken of, so the developers must have known about it.  http://doc.zentyal.org/en/_images/virt4.png

However I cant believe Zentyal developers have released a feature that doesnt work.
Ive spent hours trawling for hint of how to fix this problem, all I can find is lots of other people with the same problem with unanswered posts. If there was a how to already, there would not be so many people asking for support on it.

Does anyone know how to fix this at Zentyal Towers ?
Creating a KVM machine via zentyal woudl be great, anyone got it working & care to make a tutorial or a youtube video?
Anyone know how to integrate virtualbox?

Nope, i didnt think so ! :-[

definitley interested in helping test, but I dont have any perl skills that are required to integrate transmission etc into the Zentyal web interface.

Does anyone else have these and want to help?

Windows Home Servers heritage was of a similar vein. . . . .come on people :-)

Right, ive found Virtualbox application on the desktop, but not in Zentyal web console. Hmmm.

Hi Thorsten,

Did you get anywhere with this ?

I had exactly the same problem.

13
Hi,

Bump, same issue.

I did the following on a clean install from zentyal installer , but having installed KVM and encountered issues. on 64bit AMD machine

sudo service qemu-kvm stop

sudo apt-get remove quemu-kvm

Sudo Nano /etc/apt/sources.list

added deb http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian lucid contrib non-free

wget -q http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian/oracle_vbox.asc -O- | sudo apt-key add -

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install virtualbox-4.1
sudo apt-get install dkms

sudo shutdown -r now

But nothing virtual machine related appeared in the zentyal web interface. I tried enabling virtual host but it simply reinstalled KVM Quemu again.

any ideas?

Do i need a fresh blank install of ubuntu server, then add virtualbox & zentyal on top for it to work ?

Same problem here.

This site could really do with a FAQ.
Hunting through this Forum seems to turn up lots of unanswered posts on similar topics.

As a student I cant afford the professional support subscriptions to find my answers :-)

Hi,

I was excited at first I want to test running Zentyal as KVM machine from within Zentyal host.

But have encountered the following two problems.

First of all the console screen blinks as described here: http://forum.zentyal.org/index.php/topic,5786.msg27942.html#msg27942

I cant find the IP address of the VM to log in to remove openbox or edit qemu / kvm configuration file.
I cant help feeling being able to switch from Cirrus to VGA adapters should be a feature in the zentyal interface.

I tried adding a network adapter as bridged from within Zentyal web interface but the dropdown which says "bridge to" only has the option NONE.  So i cant even create an interface to log into.  Ive found this post http://forum.zentyal.org/index.php?topic=8968.0 but dont really understand it.

Any suggestions?
