fwiw, on my upgraded to 1.5.1 install the user corner page does work for the user I created for testing prior to upgrade.

also, I'm no fan of vi. :)

So there's a couple of threads about this external mail retrieval failure, in my install there's no fetchmailrc file, no fetchmail daemon running, nothing I can recognize in the ebox or mail log directories.

It seems it's not specific to my install, nothing changed with external mail after upgrading to 1.5.1.

I see nothing recent about fetchmail or external mail retrieval searching here: http://trac.ebox-platform.com/search

Should I open a ticket here: http://trac.ebox-platform.com/newticket?

I'd like to help but I'm not a developer and don't really know the protocol....

vi is installed if nobody noticed.

Ran the components update from 1.5.8 to 1.5.10, only issue was the monitor status was stopped and the button was at it's start state, clicking the start button showed no change but monitor/collectd was running.
The System updates then showed a list of updates including a kernel update.
Fired that off without issue but there was no call to reboot even with a kernel update.
Rebooted manually, server came back up fine and the monitor status was correct, running and the button was at restart state.

Verified the user and email setup by firing off an email with the webmail window through a smarthost set in the configuration, successful.

External retreival service still doesn't work, showing stopped and the button is in the start state, clicking the button does nothing.

This server is not really in use, it will be for internal use as a mail and file server but until fetchmail works I can't use it.

Update seemed to work fine, it is running redis-server now, I was prepared to use the new iso but that wasn't necessary.

Good work.

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Apache is very slow in ebox 1.5

I think you may see a great performance improvement in the new release that is going to be out in just a few hours... stay tuned!

Stay tuned where?

Very frustrating, I've planned my evening to learn fetchmail to attempt to figure out why the External retrieval service won't start.

There's so little communication from the Ebox devs or knowledgeable users in the forums that it makes Ebox almost impossible to use when it fails.

I waited weeks for the release of 2.0 and suddenly it got pushed off another month.

I understand the concept of open source and have read the other threads complaining about releases but the lack of any idea of what's going on is very frustrating.

I really like the ebox layout but I'm starting to think I should just stick with the Ubuntu 10 lts and install the packages I need, forgetting about an overlay from developers that won't communicate.

Sigh, very, very frustrating being kept in the dark.

Same issue here, 1.5 iso install, user and mail setup with webmail, setup a pop 3 retrieval, all mail services are running, external retrieval is stopped and the start button has no obvious effect.

Like to get this working because this is the whole reason for the ebox install, to retrieve mail from an online host and share via imap.

One point of concern, there seems to be no options in the gui for external retrieval for leaving the messages on the server for any period of time or controlling deletion from the server, or even what the default is.
Does anyone know how this works?

I added another pic nic to the board and installed the iso.
Worked fine, installed 1.4.6, would need to add drivers for board nic if I decide to continue using ebox.

So, let's see.
I purged ebox.
I verified it was gone with dpkg -l grep ebox.
I even purged libebox.
Commented out 1.5 Lucid in the source list, added 1.4 Hardy.
Installed ebox, when I logged in, it was at 1.5 instead of 1.4.
Checked an install for ebox-security and was told, paraphrasing: "you're in dependency hell, everything depends on 1.4 and you ain't got it, you suck and I'm not installing."

I have noticed this as well. I finally went to synaptic and do a search for ebox. From there I could re -installed the necessary modules.
I haven't installed synaptic in the server, I'm having little luck with aptitude, I can't find the ebox components I do have installed.
An apt-cache search only shows about 10 ebox modules, and none of the modules I'm looking for. Perhaps the ebox folks are holding them back or I'm missing a repo for 1.5.

Have you tried the bare metal installation using the ISO ?

I did, but that didn't work out, 8.04 doesn't have the nic drivers I need for my board, and I really wanted to work with the new lts instead of using the old.

I've limited Linux knowledge so this is a struggle and it's so time consuming to try and search for clues about why something isn't working. I'm thinking maybe to try my luck with ClearOS.

Another option would be to try to purge ebox 1.5 and figure out how to install 1.4 in Lucid but I have little doubt that would be a nightmare for a non Linux guru.

It's like someone out there decided to make it as time consuming and as difficult as possible to use Linux instead of MS. :lol

Hello,

I'm trying out Ebox.
I've installed Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid 64 bit server on bare metal.
I've added the launchpad repo to sources.
I've installed ebox, networking and services, I have access through the ebox gui from another machine.
I've installed ebox-firewall with apt-get.
I've installed ebox-samba with apt-get.

ebox-security, ebox-ids, ebox-antivirus and ebox-software all return an error E: couldn't find package ebox-*

Does anyone have any suggestions or observations?
