Installation and Upgrades / System becomes VERY SLOW, "wa" percent very high, SWAP too high..

As the title says, my zentyal server (2.2.5) becomes extremely slow many times in the day. When running top i get extremely high percent in the cpu wa.(wait). All the others (idle, user,etc) are ok).

I have traffic balancing enable, squid, monitoring.

My swap usage is at about 30%.

What could be happening?

What other informations shouls i provide in order to get any help?

Ok, i am i little bit confused after reading all the documentation.

My configuration is that i have 2 external interfaces(2 gateways) and one internal interface.
Every user on my lan, has as a gateway the internal interface of my server. I use transparent proxy.

1. How can I limit the download RATE of every user on my lan? I do not want to give him a specific amount of total bandwidth that he can use, but i want to limit the rate that he will be able to use in real time. I do not care if will download 3 Terrabytes as long as he is downloading it with the rate i will allow him to. Do i have to use rules in traffic shaping or bandwidth throttling in Http proxy module? And if the second, which rule should i use?network or client based?

2. My two gateways gives a total bandwidth of 6Mbps(the first 4Mbps and the second 2Mbps).These are traffic balanced. Is there a way that if ONLY one user is connected to achieve MAXIMUM download rate of 6 Mbps???Something like adsl Bonding??Can zentyal do this?

of course my machine is connected to internet, i've dopwnloaded many thing so far and i am testing it right after the error message, internet works fine..

Installation and Upgrades / Help on VPN...

Hello,

i did the migration to 2.2 version last week and everything seems to work just fine, u did a great job.

I do need some help on setting up the vpn.

I did all the configuration(correctly i guess), downloaded the needed files for the client, changed the protocol from udp to tcp(i read in a topic that it might be the cause of the issue)but i do get the error "Connection refused (WSAECONNREFUSED)"

Do I have to set up something in clients options???
I see that there is a record there(created automatically) something like R_D_SRV_etc and it is enabled. Does it corresponds to the client I am trying to connect or is it the same zentyal machine I am using as a server?

Am I missing something in my configuration? Do i have to set up something in the firewall?

Installation and Upgrades / How can i see how many users are accessing my server as gateway in real time?

As the title says, is there a way to check in real time, how many users are accessing my zentyal server who acts as gateway?

I cannot check it from dhcp,cause some of the clients has static ip's. Is there a way to check how many users are accessing the squid proxy(trasparent mode)? This would be a very useful statistic for me...

Installation and Upgrades / Virtual interfaces are showing down

With the arrival of 2.0.21, i see that in the dashboard page as long as and in network-interfaces page, the virtual ip's i had in my interfaces, are now have their own icon-tab.

For example,i had in eth1 a primary ip 192.168.1.1 and a virtual one, named "management" with ip 192.168.2.1.

Now, in dashboard page i get the eth1 interface with BOTH ip's written on it and it says "up,internal,link ok".

Below that, i got a new interface icon labeled "eth1:management" and AGAIN the 2 ip's BUT IN STATUS I GET "down,internal"

Is it normal?Is it a bug?As far as i can see,virtual interfaces are working fine in terms of port forwarding etc.but further tests i will conduct tomorrow...

And something else. Since the system has updated to 2.0.21 has a strange behaviour that suddenly and WITHOUT any terminals connected on it(it's midnoght so everybody is away from the company)system loads climbs and the all system is very slow on its reaction!Web interface is getting very slow, pc that has the server as gateway connects to internet very slow etc. Suddenly and without any visible changes, system loads drops and the system gets very stable and quick.

Is it something eith the 2.0.21? In 2.0.20 i had almost 3 months uptime and working just fine...

Hi there

i do not know if anyone can help me...

I have ntop installed on my zentyal machine. My configuration is this:

Zentyal machine is used as a gateway. I has 3 interfaces eth0, eth1 and eth2.

eth2 is on lan side(every pc on lan has as default gateway ip, the ip of zentyal on this interface.)

eth0 and eth2 are both connected to a switch. On this switch are also connecte the 2 routers we've got, so zentyal communicates with these routers(each interface with one router, through this switch).

So all the traffic from lan goes in zentyal from eth2 and goes out to the routers from eth1 and eth0 , according to what traffic balance rule is taking place...

I have ntop monuitoring the eth2 interface but i do get wrong counting on http measure. Both our routers together gives a total maximum traffic of 6Mbps, but ntop counts 150kb...

Even though i have some pc's on the lan in full downloading(and they get the full bandwidth that aour lines can give)ntop is not giving this...

Can someone help me on that???

Installation and Upgrades / I cannot send emails from gmail account from within lan

Yesterday i realised that behind zentyal,having 3 gmail's accounts setted up on outlook, i cannot send mail through those accounts. I do receive without problem. In the same outllok, i have other accounts in difereent domains(so different smtp servers)and i can send from those accounts, just fine.

I know that something is wrong with the specific smtp server of gmails and the port it listens too(it is port 587).

I have smtp filter proxy stopped, antispam stopped, transparent pop proxy running, mail filter module is disabled...

Is it something with the firewall?

E.g. By the way...i read the documentation for the mail filter and i couldn't understand too much, it is a little bit complicated for me...
If i enable the mail filter proxy, zentyal can "filter" all the mails that any client receive/send behind it, without any configurations on clients side?(meaning any settings in mail client programs, like outlook, thunderbird, etc)??

Installation and Upgrades / [SOLVED] "No space left" - EMERGENCY HELP NEEDED!!!!!!!

Hello all,

all i did was to change the default page that squid gives when trying to access a restricted site, in fact i tried it and it was working just fine. After 2-3 minutes everybody on our lan realized that cannot access internet.

I checked the zentyal machine and i could not access the zentyal web interface,neither from a pc on the lan or the zentyal machine itself. Firefox on https://localhost gives error on page.The machine itself can access the internet, but it seems that neither of the zentyal services are running.

I tried to reboot it with no luck. As it was starting i saw a message that says something like:

udev[348] pen /dev/null failed, no such file or directory

Is there any way to start zentyal services through the command line? Should i do something else???

When zentyal crashed i gave the message below:

"Technical error  write_file 'GLOB(x7fc1cfc1fec0)' - syswrite :No space left on device at usr/share/perl5/EBox/sudo.pm line 165"

I cheked the above file and in line
 it has this command:

"write_file($fhCmdFile, $commands);"



Also when i rebooted and enter my username &pass it gives a message:

"Xsession:warning: unable to write to /tmp; xsession may exit with an error

Please help!!!!!!!

Hello all,

we are using zentyal as our gateway. It is connected with our 2 router via eth0 and eth1(external links) and our lan is connected to eth2.

Some of our clients are using a web application that is oracle web forms along with java etc.
After the do login in this application an error occur. The message error is:



I did some research on the net about the problem and it seems that something is wrong with the communication of the web server, something like it asks for very smaal timeout etc.
In fact some mention that something like the above should be changed...

... iThen, under the line <restart timeout="720" retry="2"/>
add: <ping timeout="300" interval="20"/>....


When i connect the clients DIRECTLY to our routers, the web applications runs very nice, that's why i am ending in zentyal...

I've checked firewall logs but nothing strange there.
Is it a firewall issue Can someone help me on the rules section?(No rule have been added yet)
Could it be the proxy? I am running it in transparent mode...

Please help...

Has anyone achived to install bandwidthd software to zentyal, in order to have a complete report on his network traffic? It is really good but it has problems installing on zentyal.It ask for gcc compiler etc.

Can someone from the development team give asolution?

I have not installed the users and groups module yet, but i have installed the dchp. In users and groups it asks for MODE, so i think i have installed it as advanced configuration, so to be able to choose bewtween master, slave, or windows ad slave.

Can i turn this server into a standalone server?

Hello all,

I'm quite new to zentyal so i have some questions regarding it's functionality, especially about users and group, integration with AD on windows server 2003 and http proxy.

When i was reading about zentyal i saw that it can be "slave domain controller" for a windows machine running Active Directory. I saw the all process, that includes the installation of speciall software in the windows machine(i've already did it). Now,

1.if i make zentyal slave to this windows server, my windows machine will STILL be our primary domain controller, so that users will be authenticated be this machine, in order to log in to the domain?

2.if i make zentyal slave to windows server 2003, when the users sychrnization complete, WE HAVE TO REENTER ALL THE USERS PASSWORDS?(is this what it says in the installation procedure int he documentation?)we hav more than 200 users so this will be a problem..

3. Let's say that i decided not to use zentyal server as LDAP server but i want to use it's functionalities for http proxy. i see that it dependes on users and groups module. Is it safe if enable the users and groups module in order to use proxy?Will it create a problem to my existing domain?
