What this server does is that it works as a gateway for users and is traffic balancing 4 gateways. Nothing else.

What do u thing?

I don't know the root cause but "wa" showing amount of "IO wait", this is consistent with your point about "swap".
If your system needs to swap, this generates a lot of disk IO in order to move data between memory and disk. If disk is slow (and disk IS indeed slow compared to memory, at least HDD) then your system spends time "waiting".
Thus you should look for what is generating such amount of swap.
Systems are not supposed to swap. What is your hardware configuration and how many applications are running on this system?

You will never get healthy system  if swap is not under tight control  8)

Hi Christian and thnks for the answer.

My hardware configuration is:
Intel core 2Duo 2.2 Ghz
1GB Ram
160Gb HD

Mostly my swap statistics are:

2805752  Total
199268 used
The rest are free..
153808 cached

Sometimes I see postgres process causes huge amount of cpu load, about 85%.

By saying applications what u mean? The modules?

Module status page has:

Network
Firewall
Antivirus
Events*
Logs*
Monitoring*
Traffic shaping
Users and groups
Bandwidth monitor
Http Proxy

*These 3 are related to high load from postgres?????

How can we determine what causes my system to "wait"??

Thnks!

3
As the title says, my zentyal server (2.2.5) becomes extremely slow many times in the day. When running top i get extremely high percent in the cpu wa.(wait). All the others (idle, user, etc) are ok).

I have traffic balancing enable, squid, monitoring.

My swap usage is at about 30%.

What could be happening?

What other informations shouls i provide in order to get any help?

Thnks

PS. I am attaching both zentyal.log and error.log

I would think that 2 is the default behavior of the system if you did not implement item-1 and there was no other traffic that has higher priority at that moment...

To my understanding of the matter the RATE == bandwidth effectively, although bandwidth mostly is relative to the total, and Rate would be a max kbps

Hi and thnks for the answer.

implement item-1 where? What do u mean?

Yes, rate is the max speed a user can reach. How to I limit it for every user?

Installation and Upgrades / Traffic Shaping vs Throttling Bandwidth
« on: December 19, 2011, 08:38:31 pm »
Ok, i am i little bit confused after reading all the documentation.

My configuration is that i have 2 external interfaces(2 gateways) and one internal interface.
Every user on my lan, has as a gateway the internal interface of my server. I use transparent proxy.

1. How can I limit the download RATE of every user on my lan? I do not want to give him a specific amount of total bandwidth that he can use, but i want to limit the rate that he will be able to use in real time. I do not care if will download 3 Terrabytes as long as he is downloading it with the rate i will allow him to. Do i have to use rules in traffic shaping or bandwidth throttling in Http proxy module? And if the second, which rule should i use?network or client based?

2. My two gateways gives a total bandwidth of 6Mbps(the first 4Mbps and the second 2Mbps).These are traffic balanced. Is there a way that if ONLY one user is connected to achieve MAXIMUM download rate of 6 Mbps???Something like adsl Bonding??Can zentyal do this?

Thnks!

Quote
a record there(created automatically) something like R_D_SRV_etc and it is enabled

This is the record used for the cloud service of your server.

I would suggest to create a certificate for each user that uses VPN and choose that certificate when downloading your bundle.

Hi and thnks for the reply.

Is it a problem if  a set up my vpn to listen on virtual interface and not in the physical one?

I mean, if I only have one physical interface and a ip alias on that and have it connected to 2 gateways via a switch, is it a problem i am trying my VPN through the ip alias and not the first ip of the interface?

Before starting the migration process all the packages of the
Zentyal 2.0 system need to be upgraded to the latest versions

Hi, thanks for the answer.

No,I am not behind a proxy. My server is directly connected to 4 ADSL modems-routers,traffic balancing them. One idea that came in my mind now,is to change the default gateway,in case the default was facing problems by the time I tried the upgrade.

Any other suggestions???

Edit:I changed the default gateway but the error still occurs.

Can someone help on this?

Any other suggestions?

Installation and Upgrades / Help on VPN...
« on: December 13, 2011, 07:44:26 am »
Hello,

i did the migration to 2.2 version last week and everything seems to work just fine, u did a great job.

I do need some help on setting up the vpn.

I did all the configuration(correctly i guess), downloaded the needed files for the client, changed the protocol from udp to tcp(i read in a topic that it might be the cause of the issue)but i do get the error "Connection refused (WSAECONNREFUSED)"

Do I have to set up something in clients options???
I see that there is a record there(created automatically) something like R_D_SRV_etc and it is enabled. Does it corresponds to the client I am trying to connect or is it the same zentyal machine I am using as a server?

Am I missing something in my configuration? Do i have to set up something in the firewall?

Thnks for any help!

12
As the title says, is there a way to check in real time, how many users are accessing my zentyal server who acts as gateway?

I cannot check it from dhcp, cause some of the clients has static ip's. Is there a way to check how many users are accessing the squid proxy(trasparent mode)? This would be a very useful statistic for me...

thnks

why do you want send you my log ? to compare ?

you can purge via zentyal web interface : logs => configuration => force purge

do you have a lot of data to save ? a lot of user ?
because, in your case it could be cleaner reinstall properly.

in my case, i installed 4 or 5 times to find the best config. Today everything is ok !

My friend,

i do not want your logs.
Clean install is not an option. There are many configurations on my server specially on groups, and http proxy. I do not know if just making a "save configuration" will save all these in order to put them back after a clean install.

I also think that clean install is the last option and should be taken only when there is no other way.

Purging the logs from the UI, raises the apache process to use all the memory(2GB) so the system hangs again!

Could somebody help on the issues from the production team?

Thnks

please see enclosed picture with all log files.

another question : did you install squidguard or something like that ?

do you see a reduction of your free space of your hdd ?

Ok, i saw the pictures. Do u want me to find some of these logs files and send it here or in a mail?

No,i didn't install anything.

No, i do not see a reduction of my hdd.

Mean while i found this old topic that seems to be my problem...

http://forum.zentyal.org/index.php?topic=989.15

I do what Javier Amor Garcia says in post 25 but whel sheel opens i cannot see the list of tables in order to purge the logs manually...

Any help?
