News and Announcements / Re: Fosdem 2013: Call for stands
« on: December 16, 2012, 03:22:15 pm »
Fosdem is a little out or reach atm for me, but Load SHOULD be perfectly fine,
as im not even sure if ill be abble to attend fosdem for a single day... i couldn't make any promise... load however is a lot closer and if there is interest i think that arangements could be made.
if anyone wants to talk about it just send me a short message.

News and Announcements / Re: Status of the Samba 4.0 integration in Zentyal 3.0
« on: December 13, 2012, 04:41:22 pm »
@christian, when / if this happens ill be forced to leave zentyal behind, as a valuable buisyness alternative, as for me most of the value-add is not in replacing a few licences with a few others, but with replacing and supporting the network, its desktops, and to some extent its buissiness aplications (mostly build on top of ms office).
not being able to also replace the desktops, and supporting the move to webbased aplications, or native code, hardly saves anything in terms of TCO
so instead of extending samba, i would rather have it, that a native sync solution would be added to samba, so that external services (for example openldap) can bind against it in a regular master slave senairo.. this should happen (obviously) before we incoporate more of samba's ldap specifics, into zentyal...

Installation and Upgrades / Re: web server decision
« on: November 28, 2012, 10:04:30 pm »your question has been asked hundreds of times befor,
people have given countless numbers of advices about it...
and still here you are asking the same question.
edit what ichat meant to say (by robb)
Lets start over..
Striker, welcome to the Zentyal forums. In order to give a good answer we need a bit more info. For instance: what kind of hardware are you useing (going virtual is generally speaking asking for quite some memory.)
On the other hand, using vm's inside Zentyal does take more resources. It all depends what kind of role you plan for Zentyal. If it is _only_ webserver, I would advice against using Zentyal but go for a vanilla Ubuntu server installation and install Apache or NginX on it to serve the website(s) you plan to host.
The benefit of using Zentyal is (imo) the great integration of all the possible features. So if you need a full infrastructure, Zentyal is the right choice. If you only use a simple service, I wouldn't go for the extra overhead Zentyal uses.

another possible feature would be to install 1 windows host on top of the virtualisation manager to still be able to run a windows-only apps...
but some how im not completely sure what it is exactly what you are looking for ...
are you looking for a way to install these buissyness apps on top of zentyal ... or are you looking to add a windows based member server to your zentyal powered domain..

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Ubuntu Client SSO
« on: November 26, 2012, 12:49:30 pm »
you shouldnt just change the lpdap conf... but like christian said check the firewall since zentyal defaults to blocking access to its openldap ... what you see on 389 is not openldap but samba4 ldap... witch is why you couldn't auth against it..

not a staff member, nor a devoper but i can tell that its not going to happen in 3.2
the guy starting this tread was a paper cowboy (meaning a lot of talk but no sirious action),
i took some time trying to figure out how mutch development time it would take to do this properly ...
the only answer i could get was not in forseeable time...
also i dont see the point so mutch in a few situations:
1: linux is a mutli user system, with the right user restrictions setup you dont particularly need containers, (those are only really usefull for providing more than just basic rights).
2: if you do want to split than split and install a regular ubuntu ltsp and install pam ldap / kerberos and treat it as a normal linux client.
....
another thing is, that most users would probably benefit more from getting a better desktop experience, when booting ltsp.

well, on the dev mailing list i read some technical bla bla (ya i know im not a coder so even "hello world" is bla bla to me ), from witch i understand some contributions are made that would grately simplify intergrating intergrating an aditional groupware.
(sogo was named as an example), meaning the advanteges of groupware without the disadvanges of mapi (for us non-windows users that is)...

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Zentyal to Zentyal OpenVPN howto
« on: November 24, 2012, 04:52:13 pm »
some missing information,
how exactly did you set it up,
what ip ranges did you use...
how can the openvpn ip's be dynamic if your using a tunnel,
only your real host ip's should (if this is the case with your isp) be dynamic but that is only relevant to the innitial connection and could also be circomvented with dns... (dyndns).
the limitation with openvpn (from what i understand) is that its implemented only into connecting a a client to the main office network, and not visa versa, if that is what your looking for ... from the documentation it seams that you need ipsec instead of openvpn.

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Block all traffic except specific application layer protocol
« on: November 23, 2012, 08:55:27 pm »the correct answer: you cant (easily), as you would need "Deep Packet Inspection", witch is a terrible thing to implement, both on 'system usage' as well as on 'required technical skill'...
Update: did i just forgot about zentyal's l7 filters, ... they can be installed using the zentyal compents installer and already nicely intergrate with the iptables guy.

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Issue with Multiple Bonded Nics
« on: November 20, 2012, 06:34:55 pm »
@barry, if you on that route, why not use a parser, and ONLY replace the parts (read the adaptors), that you want to override...
you would probably need to translate your config to an iface command of some sort... (im not 100% sure how that works)... but it would still allow (read ... enable) you to change the other interfaces for example the ones not being bridged...
at some point zentyal obviously should change the way that it 'detects' your network devices...
so that when you bond eth0 + eth1 both of them are 'disabled' from being managed, but instead you get an new virtual device that you can manage simular to any other device, including bonded, virtuals, tunnels etc. all of these shuld be treated as regular nic's.
