 ;D ;D ;D

I am going to take a look at each and see what could benefit my environment. The exchange server license was a gift received during a company merge way back in 2006. At the time I was happy to set it up and and get blackberry server running which was all the rage, but looking back I definitely messed up and made things difficult in the long run.

I work in the Healthcare industry. All my clients manage or run nursing homes, small to medium sized clinics and ALFs. The crazy part is they know exactly what is needed to support their addiction, but simply refuse to pay the money M$ requires to get the licenses.

Instead I get complaints and threats. :)

If you have any other suggestions, I am open to hearing them. Since I wear many hats in my office, R&D is a rare pastime that I only get to enjoy once in a blue moon.

Good points by all. I will still try and figure out if it is workable since my customers are evil LOL, and do not care about the IT dept's feelings. I will try and sway them to a zimbra server, but their addiction to Outlook will probably prevent that from really taking off. If I make any significant break through, I will post my results here for others who may want to take a chance on the current version.

Hi @StuartNaylor

I am not sure I understand. Are you saying that openchange will not work at all with zentyal 3.4.x? Also I do not see how 3.4.x is dead in the water either.

An update for this post:

Since I started my setup with eth0 (10.160.10.21/24) as the only interface, then followed that up by adding eth1 (10.200.12.21) as the new internal interface, while switching eth0 to the WAN interface, all the firewall rules on External Networks to Zentyal needed to be added. Now that it is working I am going to push forward with the openchange setup and hopefully be able to complete it and document it for others to follow.

Thanks

In your VMware workstation desktop, are you able to open https://localhost?

If not then you may have an incomplete installation. After the ISO is done installing, you should have been able to connect to the web management for the zentyal server to finish setting up the packages you desire and also as a last step, you should have been able to configure the IP address and gateway.

Thank you @Escorpiom for clearing this up a little for me. I was starting to become frustrated with a product I have come to love over the last few versions. I have the flexibility to manipulate my network as I see fit so I will experiment with work arounds that may be able to make this workable until the devs (who have done great work so far) can come up with a permanent fix.

Zentyal is not the internet gateway of the network. This server is installed in a data center and I do not need it to route traffic nor do I want that. All this server is for is so that an important client can continue to use outlook 2010 after I retire their Exchange 2003 server.

I would much rather not use this setup at all, but to configure openchange and email the zentyal interface kept popping up a message that I need to have an internal and external interface and wouldn't let me get around it.

If there is a way to get email working and openchange without dual NIC and without having to configure my public email servers DNS on the zentyal itself I would gladly do it, but unfortunately it does not look like it is possible.

I just installed zentyal 3.4 on a server with 2 network cards but can not get it to work as intended. Below are the details of my setup. Maybe I am doing something that just isnt possible.

eth0 = WAN = 10.160.10.21/24 gateway 10.160.10.1
eth1 = LAN = 10.200.12.21/24 gateway 10.200.12.1 DEFAULT

For the life of me I can not get the WAN interface to work as intended. I can not ping it from any network other than 10.160.10.0/24 and the public IP I have mapped of course will not allow me to connect so that I can use this as an openchange server.

Normally this would indicate a gateway issue. And when I look at the documentation I should be able to enable the default gateway on both interfaces.

I configure this from the web, but after clicking on save button, everything just reverts back to default gateway only being on eth1, what am I missing, or is this something that was not intended to work as I imagine it should.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. If specific details are required on any setting please let me know.
Thanks

I just went back to zentyal 3.1-2 and what a huge difference. from bare bones to fully working PDC in just over 90 minutes. There is definitely something amiss  with the 3.2x versions

sadly i have to agree as well. 2 servers with zentyal 3.2 have both flamed out. Now even fresh installs flame out with the dreaded "samba failed to start" I've been trouble shooting for weeks and finally after seeing this post .... im giving up :(

Installation and Upgrades / Re: zentyal-samba 3.2.7 upgrade issue

I hope the update helps. I finally figured out that during the upgrade to zentyal-samba 3.2.7, the process stops on restarting zentyal-samba after the update is applied. Killing the restart process allowed the zentyal PDC to function, but a subsequent reboot killed the server completely and it will not start up any more.

Quite disappointed overall with Zentyal 3 stability issues. I can understand if I was experimenting in uncharted territory, but simple setup with minimal customization just blew up and forced me to inconvenience my customer while I rebuild them a server.
:(

what logs can I look at to see where this problem is coming from? Zentyal.log and the samba logs do not say much. I tried tailing the syslog, but I am not sure what to look for. Any pointers would be great

I was unable to gain access over the weekend so this morning was the first time I could restart the server. Since its a monday I'll have to wait until this evening before attempting to do the upgrade again. I will post the results if any progress is made.

Thanks

unfortunately, looks like the server froze and is no longer responding. I will go back to the office and check on it tomorrow morning. I'll have more information then.

Thanks
