Installation and Upgrades / Re: how can i build this setup ?
« on: November 19, 2012, 08:23:22 pm »
its not that zentyal isn't good software, btw clearos is isn't bad either, but neither are verry suiting to your needs in terms of optimal behaviour, it terms of features,
if people say that there are using clearos and its working great, either they are computer hobyist bragging ... or they are plain lying to you (or at least exagerating...)...
im telling you this, because neither have any featuers that come near loadbalancing like for example elastix does, and sure you can hack (meaning thinker) something together with the computer-euqivilent of duck-tape
but its not bring you to where you want to be...
but when you run one of these virtual network appliences dedicated to firewalling... like IPcop, Elastix, pfsence or many of the other firewall apliences you can find on google...
you would get a really great head start...
now if you kids scool needs a new network controller, or you brothers lawfirm whats network authentication and file/email/calandar sharing... THATS when you want to take a look at zentyal...
thats ... when (in my book) zentyal rulez them all...

i would say, no go,
zentyal is a small buisyness network in-a-box. sure it can provide vm's but there are usally only to run software that isn't intended to run on zentyal...
the rest of is all network settings in sutch a way that it is usefully to untility networks and not so mutch networks for webservers...
where for example zentyal provided forward proxy, a webserver needs a reverce proxy or a loadbalancer. where zentyal only provides basic virtual machines... your virtual machines probably require some kind of accounting...
what you need is a dedicated virtual machine host with vmware esxi or xen (with xen you have solus vm, witch is non-free but works really great ... on that virtual stax you want...
a: a firewall applience that intergrates loadbalancing or reverse proxy... (if only http than nginx would do this for you...)... |
b: some webservers... (maybe a control pannel)...
c: more stuf...
anyway running that on zentyal is far from ideal...

sure you can change to a new domain name.
you do have to re-install the users module to that samba and ldap are populated correctly the rest is not so mutch a matter as changing but more adding the new domain and removing the old...

seen from the zentyal point of view check if your wan adaptor (the wone in the *.2.x range, is marked an external adaport, (it should be so)...
if it is than go into your zentyal firewall and allow trafic from external to zentyal for http (or if that service isn't defined, for port 80)...

Installation and Upgrades / Re: how to backup 350Gb
« on: November 16, 2012, 03:42:32 pm »
running a fullback and 30 incremental backups is not very nice, and if only mothly fullbackups, i would recoment using diferenttial...
or you do weekly diferentiall and daily incremental...
in the last case you store a lot less backup data, than if you do a full weekly backup, but still dont have to apply 31 backups... but instead a maxium number of 9... which is still a lot...
other than that, i would advice, usb3 or esata, specially with esata you can add cheap and still verry quick backup storage to you system...

« on: November 13, 2012, 10:57:30 am »
first upgrade to the latest 2.2.x version and than wait for the 2.2 to 3 migration tool, it hasn't been released yet..
other alternative, using an ldap browser create a csv file with all your users...
and than in 3.0 using the framwork and scripts to create new accounts for them...
you would still need to reimplement most of your settings... though

no mapping them only works as part of the AD, witch isn't implemented in 2.0 / 2.2

dear udo - thans for your reply,
i get the picture,
and this is one of the reasons why why we are investigating some new tools for zentyal.org site...
the (idea tracker) being the first one..
if your not completely comfortable with creating new pages. we can discuss it on irc, in a more direct conversation, but its also just fine if you want to wait for a more userfriendly tool. (hopefully it will be ready in a couple of weeks.. (no promises)

like you already set, you need to use logon.bat (or what its called), and add a net use command to map \\yourzentyalserver\yourshare to for example net use x \\myzentyal/mygroupshare /persistant no

first of all, i would like say thanks for making this document, by all means any documentation is welcome, and if (i dont say it is so)... the quality is not good enought, than at least it would be a starting point for improvements, and therefore it would still be worth a ton.
about the content; i still haven't taken the time to review it completely so remarks about it, i can not give yet, but at first eye it looks really brilliant. and im looking forward to testing this out.
now about my last point for now: your not being able to add pages to the wiki seams really wrong to me,
so i would like to invite you to join us on irc: by clicking here so we can properly find out what caused it...
