allereerst - kuddo's voor dit toppic,
echter wat ik me afvraag, is waarom die super highend router, + witch terweil er tonnen aan redenen te verzinnen zijn om zentyal die taak over te laten nemen en dus de kosten van een behoorlijk dure router achterwege te laten..
een beetje managed swich van bijv dell kan al genoeg met vlan tagging om geen 'professionele' router meer nodig te hebben als zentyal in gateway mode zet.
waar ik trouwens ook wel benieuwd naar ben is hoe sirreus men ano nu in nl om gaat met internet verbinding.. hebben jullie naast de xs4all lijn bijv ook nog een andere internet verbinding (upc/ziggo) of bijv tweakdsl, solcom of tele2 (over het bbnet netwerk).

lets say that you own a office with 200 users. and 2 storage-servers (redundant setup)..
with both a 10 drive rai6 array... for thair data (boot disk not included).. spinning down the disk coud save you 20 disks in total ...
im not talking about spinning them down whil having coffee brakes but after 5 pm till 8am you coul perfectly spin down your disk and reduce power on your cpu it may not save you thousands of dollars, but there are actually guidelines in some countries that can give you a tax-benefit if your buissness is co2-netrall... saving energy might than be a precious thin..

@jan, neej dat gaat zentyal zeker niet kunnen... ik verwacht dat ze daar zelfs als de wil er was, de middelen niet voor zijn.. en een nederlandse sponsor op dit moment kun je ook wel vergeten, dan zit je dus al snel vast aan dingen die je hebt...

sceduled shutdowns take down the whole server... as sceduled spindowns only cost you access time...
you can still access data from a spin(ned?) down disk, even if it may take some time ... drive spin up + access time + readtime... but thats on off-hours... where speed is less important...
what if your employees want to work at home finishing that assignement - you'l never know then the kids have showerd and brought to bed... so you wont know when the server needs to be online... disk spindown after x minutes ... from x hour to y hour would be a good in-between... compared to 24h full load..

for a quick hint... dont ever run a fileserver as a Virtual machine Uless its connected to a real beefy file-cluster, san, or iscsi target...
not if performance matters that is...
in your case i could settle for 1 zentyal to rulle them all only running a mini linux lamp stack for your extra-net (www) service....

agree, and for addition: sutch a wifi AP (access point), is mainly aready installed and configured with the riw right settings an drivers. running most ubuntu wifi cards will cause issue when running in AP-mode...
and since you can already obtain a wifi app at low prices it could be potentially better to use that instead,
especially when you deside your want more AP's later on (for extended range).

first of all.. why do you want/need to resolve anydomain.com to a local lan ...
why not any.domain.com.local (adding the .local - with take your dns out of the internet skope making it a completely different tld and thus no interference with your current domain settings)
for mail intergration your could easily add a bunch of records (a, mx, ptr) for mail.yourdomain.com to your zentyal server while retaining your dns1.domain.com and dns2.domain.com with your current isp / registrar.
you could even engage with zone transfers for newyork.domain.com (www.newyork.domain.com / mail.newyork.domain.com joe@newyork.domain.com) or amsterdam.domain.com (lisa@amsterdam.domain.com )
btw @ cristion www. IS a subdomain ... it always is, its default on must webserver-hosting enabled servers,
but without proper sub-domain records in your dns it does not exist at all... to be more precise, http://www.domain.com and http://domain.com are actually not even the same thing... few things that came out of this...

neither of witch could eventually pursway me to try them on a larger (than homegrown website). scale..
but than i came across tikiwiki wich i remembered only because its funny name ... and a few reviews on a dutch techsite. this whas my first attemt at it and it actually seems to be quite ok..
it features build in wiki, forum, photo albums, articles, review sections, polls and dozens of other features. its updated frequently and deserves a try... it can even authenticate agains an ldap db. so SSO may even be possible..

ik heb gisteren successvol tikiwiki geinstalleerd op een shared webhosting accountje van 2 tientjes...
hoewel ik er geen ervaring mee hebt (wat betreft beheer)... ziet het er wel goed uit, het lijkt me oo een goede kandidaat voor een multi-site (meerdere sites met 1 installatie)... setup...
de vindbaarheid zou je kunnen oplossen door het pakket op een eigen servertje of webhosting pakketje te laten draaien en zentyal te vragen zentyal.nl aan het accountje te koppelen...
of je zou een eigen zentyalusergroup.nl (oid) kunnen registreren... de vindbaarheid heeft meer te maken met eventuele verwijzingen op beide sites... van ons vandaan naar zentyal.org de trac sites - en andere relevante info... en vanuit zentyal kunnen ze prima een een aantal links posten naar community-sites. en daar is GEEN effort voor nodig ...

@ian niet mee eens, zentyal als gateway kan best nuttig zijn...

er is nogal wat info wat je vergeet te vermelden...
ten eerste in network - heb je daar je etho poorten correct geconfigureerd...
is eth0 ingesteld als vast ip ... bijv als 192.168.10.1 of 192.168.10.254
is eth1 ingesteld als dynamisch ip ... en krijgt deze ook een ip van je isp (bijv 92.18.137.20
let op: je isp ip mag NOOIT in het zelfde netwerk zitten als je private ip range (tenzei je extreem goed weeet waar je mee bezig bent)...
dus als jij van ziggo 192.168.0.xx krijgt moet je voor je eigen netwerk een andere range kiezen bijv 192.168.1.1 of x.y.10.1
heb je je routertje in accesspoint modus gezet (zodat deze als switch gaat opereren, in plaats van als router)...
het helpt om een plaatje te posten van je netwerk setup met alle ingestelde netwerk settings

allereerst - zentyal forum is gebaseerd op gratis closed source software ... en dat is dus geen OpenSource - en dat vind ik dan ook direct HET grote probleem vn SMF - er was ooit een tijd dat het wel ter sprake was om van smf een bsd licentie te maken maar daar is de maker ter eigen glorie vanaf gestapt... het mag dan een redelijk goed stukje forum software zijn, maar er zijn meerdere stukjes forum software die beter zijn en waar je zelf WEL aan de sourcecode mag zitten...
de reden om echter voor een cms te kiezen heeft meer te maken, met dat een community meer nodig heeft an enkel een forum... zo wil je ook een wiki om documentatie te beheren, en eventueel agenda's om evenementen te posten en zijn er tal van andere zaken die op zo'n site behandeld zouden moeten kunnen worden.
nu heb ik echter nog eens goed gekeken naar joomla - en diens mogelijkheden om te intergeren met andere pakketten zoals een wiki... deze extentions zijn echter behoorlijk ondermaats wat joomla dus minder geschikt maakt als 'software community' platform...
ik denk (en hoop) dat tikiwiki (niet te verwarren met tinky winky) beter uit de verf komt...

well i think that 1 forum fits all is nice on a small scale to try stuff out and maybe even finding some like-minded (same language) people.. BUT.. having a single place for all related stuff could be prefered over a mixed can...
when i now read the forum (all new post since last visit) i first have to check if its actually in my language... before i even read it... - to just give 1 stupid example.
look at localized ubuntu user groups and forums... and still i see tons of localized material translated back to global...
if you realy like "a documentation team" it will also emediately resolve the scattered information problem.. since any of its members can organise that local contributions are translated into english and later on any other language out there...
a teacher at my ict-college once told me that the sole reason for windows overpowering linux was that you could ase even your naighbour kid for help fixing 'drivers' - he obviously ment that the shorter string on support was getting more people interested... now lets make that happen for zentyal linux...
