if you want to add it to zentyal documentation..  i think  wiki  would be prefered as that would be the place where we want to start building more information,

offcoures also providing it in doc  html or pdf  doesn't hurt...

about the  wsus-offline-tool  versus,  squid cash,   with wsus ofline its even possible to  select for witch software you would like to download all the updates...  sadly enought thre is not  'allow'  'disallow'  feature for specific updates. 

but if we try to work with the guys now running the project, we might be able to suggest, some  improvements, and someone might be able to pick it up...  and everybody could win.

where squid cash only ever looks at what has been downloaded befor, and until you run out off storage,  saves you having to download it again   - even those tools that only download once  like an  SDK or deployment.iso  (also hosted on  download.ms.com

on a workstation download and burn  clonezilla-live.iso... 

that way you can reset to your  current state regardless how many times you  retry ...

check your firewall...  it may be blocking your  ldap 390 port from lan to zentyal...

given that,  i would suggest to use zentyal as a dhcp / dns  / pdc   and  drop that  from your pfsence and only use it as a firewall  this will solve issues with having to change your dhcp  information everythime you make changes to your zentyal box...  or if you even install ltsp. for example.

@ian,  hoewel ik je mening deel dat zentyal  fouten en buggs bevat die er niet in thuis horen  (gegeven dat het een release versie is)...   ga ik er gemakshalve vanuit dat het voornamelijk samba4 buggs en problemen zijn...

ik wil ze daarbij niet baggetaliseren, maar  om het ongeschikt voor productie te markeren vind ik persoonlijk toch wat te ver gaan,  ik kan me windows versies (oa ook xp en serv2003) herinneren waar het minstens net zo erg was,   

mijn uitgangs punt zal dus blijven:  wat als je zentyal 3 toch in productie wilt/moet nemen,   hoe ondervang je de dan de gegeven problemen, en hoe bescherm je jezelf en je data  tegen deze potentieel  kritieke problemen.

als het alleen om een simpele gateway gaat, met wat firewall dingen  of een  wellicht paar gedeelde mappen op   huis-tuin-en-keuken niveau (zonder AD dus) raad ik iedereen aan om lekker bij 2.2 te blijven en de problemen door anderen op te laten lossen.   

maar de insteek zou zeker NIET moeten zijn dat  een 3.0 install gewoon enkel voor hobby is en niet serieus genomen dient te worden..

beste  Escorpiom,

ik denk dat daar wel een mouw aan te passen valt, er zullen ongetwijfeld meer mensen zijn die wel zouden willen maar mogelijk niet in de gelijkheid zijn om een zentyal instal party mee te maken.  een mogelijke oplossing zou kunnen zijn om  een hybride  variant te kiezen tussen een 'live event'  en een 'webinar'   bijv met tools als  google hangouts moet al een hoop mogleijk zijn,  maar ik voorzie dat er ook wel andere opties zullen bestaan. 

ik ben in ieder geval berijd om naar een oplossing te zoeken als je daar intresse in zou hebben.

ah, but i do understand your frustration if things dont work...
but if you had added your information from the 2nd post, to your topic start you would have taken less from my time and my frustration...

yes:  wins  can be an issue,

the prefered wins server can be defined from your dhcp ...
if zentyal is your dhcp server, you can find the setting  under your  dhcp-scope.
set wins to 'zentyal domain' 

ans an alternative you could try to use the  winnt 4 approach  joining the domain with credentials like

domainname =    \\your-netbios-name
username =     \\your-netbios-name\administrator
password =        #############

lets see where you get after trying this...

As it stands now, I am abandoning using Zentyal because of these issues, unless I can get them solved is short order.

please dont do that,  you wil never get support quicker, by saying this kind of stuff,

this forum is provider for apsolutely free, meaning that we dont get anything in return for helping you, and its really disrespectfully saying things like: if you dont help me quick im gonna...." 

....

regarding your question,  please give us more information about what you did,  and didn't test yet...
there are several posts on this forum with the exact same question, and me answering them,  have you tried that suggestion yet.. also have you tested with nslookup...

@escorpoim,

in the past there you used to be .sh scripts to download al these updates for a linux box, but do to lack of support  that project stalled,  as they ar looking for people to support such a feature, we may want to help them find some one to have a look at it...

if there could be a webbased implementation of thair tool, to configure and download these updates,  it could even be a valuable  module for zentyal users with windows clients...

specifying it diferently,

if you didnt create the dns records befor, your virtual host wont be able to use it...
and you wil have to manually configure...

your trying to do ldap groups,  rather than system groups...
 remove the  ldap group ... and instead,  use the cli to  chown the folder, 

or install pam,  than create a  user call torrent,  (in zentyal)  and  change your transmission to run under that user...
