News and Announcements / Re: Zentyal 4.0 Roadmap Published!
« on: August 12, 2014, 10:23:52 pm »
I for one .... think this may be a good direction. We are not Zentyal users because every time we tried it we found too many little issues that just made us uncomfortable.

As far as I know no one has entered the Active Exchange market with an open source product. This market looks untapped. But there are others in the all-in-one market.

We can find other products to fill the holes. Especially since we run everything on VM's. Our customers do pay maintenance and we usually steer them towards ClearOS with NAS and with Endian or Sophos for a firewall.

But the AD/Exchange replacement has always been the "Holy Grail" that we could not find.

I too would be interested in this. We use SOGo heavily and I would love to have it packaged with Zentyal.

I have one quick question ... I am new to Zentyal so forgive me if this is obvious ...... When you export the configuration does it export data also (email files, shared folder data, etc.)?

Does Roundcube provide the shared calendar and contact functionality with ACL's like SOGo does?

I would say EGW does have everything you need if you can live with a web interface only (none of our customers will buy into this).

SOGo with Thunderbird provides the only close MS Exchange/Outlook replacement that I know of. We do have customers that have bought this. And several schools are using SOGo/Thunderbird/Open Office to replace Exchange/Outlook/Office.

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Groupware server for eBox

Most users have been exposed to the functionality of Outlook with Exchange and thus are not satisfied with reduced performance or features when using a replacement package.

eGroupware provides a tremendous feature package but only with its web interface and this is limited to the limitations of the browser (customized spell checking, etc.).

Most users are satisfied with the Thunderbird email client features. eGroupware allows a synchronization with Thunderbird's calendar and contacts via funambol and some others but they require complicated setup for the end user and can have limited functionality (the Funambol plug-in only allows one calendar and address book to be sync'd).

SOGo provides a Thunderbird plug-in that allows the administrator to install and remove plug-ins and set configurations on the server and then push them out to all the Thunderbird clients.

Any address books or calendars that the user creates in either client (webmail or Thunderbird) is replicated in the other client. If a user adds six address books and four calendars in Thunderbird they are immediately available in the webmail client without the user having to perform any additional steps.

The address books and calendars and email folders (this may require a Cyrus IMAP server) can be shared with other users with varying degrees of permission with true ACL functionality.

The SOGo webmail interface mimics Thunderbird's interface so users will be comfortable and familiar with either client (similar to how the Exchange webmail interface mimics the appearance of Outlook).

Is there anymore interest in SOGo?

From the testing we have done I have to say that the SOGo/Thunderbird combination is the best replacement for Exchange/Outlook.

It would be great to have it as a plugin for eBox.

Yes, I did that and it works.

I am still bothered by why smtpd does not resolve the name but ping does?

Installation and Upgrades / Problems sending email via smarthost
« on: July 04, 2009, 04:06:50 am »
Hello everyone,

I have a fresh install on vmware of both 1.0.1 and 1.1.3. When I configure mail to send via a my ISP's server (smarthost, no auth required) the email stays in the queue and I have this error in the mail log:

"Host or domain name not found. Name service error for name=<ISP's email server> type=MX: Host not found, try again)"

I can ping the ISP's server by name from the CLI. Smarthost does work for my other VM servers.

Update: If I use my ISP's SMTP server IP address and not the name then it works!

Am I missing a setting (Firewall is off)? Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance for your help!
