Installation and Upgrades / Re: Yet another installation on Ubuntu 20.04 - some question
« on: November 25, 2022, 11:58:32 am »
Hello
I have same issue with saving modules status
Fresh install of Zentyal 7.0, only basic modules added (ex. doman controller and file sharing).
when saving changes in modules configuration - it is endless (waited few hours).
I have made 2 separate installtions to be sure, on 2 separate computers. Always the same situation.
I will try to install 6.x and upgrade to 7 to see results.

Contributions / Tips&Tricks / Features Requests / /etc/ppp/chap-secrets - is there a way to protect from Zential changing it?
« on: February 23, 2019, 09:30:40 pm »
Hello
Does anyone know a way to set Zentyal (since v 4.0 until now) to NOT erase PPTP password file? Each time Zential is reconfigured it is changing /etc/ppp/chap-secrets to default file.

First of all - read Zentyal wiki. Especially https://wiki.zentyal.org/wiki/En/4.1/Users,_Computers_and_File_Sharing#joining-zentyal-server-to-an-existing-domain
At the end of this topic it is written: Functional Domain level of the forest and the domain has to be min 2003R2, current max 2012 (not 2012R2) - in my experience it is 208R2 now.
Is your domain 2003 or 2003R2? If 2003, then only old version of Zentyal worked properly with it (as i remember 3.3 but check please, mus tuse samba 3, not samba 4)
If you have 2003R2 - what is the netbios domain name? Netbios domain name can not be the same, as first part of FQDN of your domain
eg. now your FQDN domain is domainname.tld, so it means that probably your domain netbios name is "DOMAINNAME". But, according to zentyal wiki, it can be any other than that.
So in this case it depends how many computes is connected to your domain as domain computers (with login domainname\username). Because domain name change will result in necesity of reconnecting those machines to domain again.

Directory and Authentication / Re: Connect Zentyal 4.2 to Windows 2012 domain - problems with KDC
« on: December 01, 2015, 10:30:24 pm »
first part of connection - found reasons of connections problems: during AD DS installation i have also installed DNS server, so AD during configuration did not wanted to configure properly DNS entries. Installation AD DS and domain promotion from clean and not installing DNS resulted in automatic DNS installation and configuration, so KERBEROS and LDAP works fine.
But have other problem:
ERROR(runtime): uncaught exception - DsAddEntry failed
I found it was a problem in samba 4.1 with connection to 2012 and 2012r2 in march-april this year. But Zentyal team says it works now with 2012 (not r2). So i have made 2012 functionality on 2012r2 server and still not works...
So... I have to degrade AD controler to level 2008R2
And everything went smooth
Waiting for 2012 and more - 2012R2 support.

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Zentyal 4.2 samba files permission
« on: November 28, 2015, 05:33:56 pm »
Ok, i found, what was a problem - I am mounting volumes "by hand" as early prepared or already existing but assigning new Zentyal. The problem was that i did not mount them with proper acl option. The right way is:
mount -o rw,acl,user_xattr,usrquota,grpquota -L "volumelabel" /mountpoint
or
mount -o rw,acl,user_xattr,usrquota,grpquota /dev/md0 /mountpoint
or in fstab same way as / volume
But...
it does not resolve problems with ACL change when try to change it from dashboard - existing files ACL's are not changing to proper one to give right permisions to files (it worked fine on Zential 2.2)
mount -o rw,acl,user_xattr,usrquota,grpquota -L "volumelabel" /mountpoint
or

Directory and Authentication / [SOLVED] Connect Zentyal 4.2 to Windows 2012 domain - problems with KDC
« on: November 28, 2015, 05:25:14 pm »
I need urgent help
I'm trying to connect Zentyal 4.2 to existing 2012 domain (server 2012r2 with domain on 2012 level)
After first problems (netbios name was first part of FQDN - changed that with powershell) the only problem is kerberos authentication -
Error output: kinit: krb5_get_init_creds: unable to reach any KDC in realm PSSE.PL
I can ping psse.pl
I can telnet psse.pl port 88
help me please - what is wrong? Is there anthing i have to check on Windows DC/DNS?

Directory and Authentication / Re: Install as domain controller
« on: November 28, 2015, 05:15:02 pm »
This is set in SYSTEM->GENERAL, you have to set there your realm, ex. ubuntudom.it. Than Your server will get name ubuntuhost.ubuntudom.it (because your host name is ubuntuhost also set in SYSTEM->GENERAL as HOSTNAME)

Installation and Upgrades / Zentyal 4.2 samba files permission
« on: November 20, 2015, 02:57:34 pm »
Problem:
Share created with RW permission for group "all" and Admin permission for group "domain admins"
One person can't delete file created by other
In this case file permissions are 664, dir are 770
Changed to:
Share changed to Admin for group "all" and admin for group "domain admins"
Still one person can't delete file created by other
File permissions are 664, dir are 775
Is there any way for more than 1 person to share file permissions?
EDIT: Problem only occurs if files are already in folders (moved with disks from old system and placed in folders through console). ACL checkbox does nothing, any changes are not submitted to file rights after changing file permisions.
New files transferred through network to server looks and works ok.

You haven't write te Zentyal version. But normally Zentyal is doing this to set permissions as described in sharing module.

Have the same in my configuration. More - there is a problem with accessing file in this share (when, for example, 1 user will create it, other can't delete)
I have to also post a new post with files access permisions set in file sharing

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Adding linux user to zentyal samba shares.
« on: March 05, 2015, 06:44:12 pm »
Not possible for user defined outside of zentyal. Zentyal is using LDAP for user management and user/groups that will not be written to /etc/group.
The only way i did it (in 2.x versions) was to create user with zentyal and option "shell account" enabled

Installation and Upgrades / Re: How to configure WLAN DHCP?
« on: March 05, 2015, 06:38:35 pm »
Because you need to install software, which will make your WLAN card visible as AP. It's not Zentyal function.

Installation and Upgrades / Zentyal + Gnome = not functioning installation
« on: January 26, 2015, 03:07:10 pm »
After few test installation of Zentyal 4.0 i have found strange error
If You install Zentyal from repositories on console only Ubuntu 14.04 - Zentyal works fine
If You install it with Gnome desktop - samba sharing fails to work and save changes
If you install Zentyal on console THEN install Gnome (asking during installation to replace PAM - answer NO) - then Gnome fails to get up
Conclusion: at present time Zentyal and Gnome can't work together
