Okay - a different approach.

Could I be doing something wrong with the upgrade? I'm using the 'Upgrade Now' link on the dashboard, assuming it will handle everything. Should I be completing other pre-requisites before running that script?

I'm still baffled as to why all the modules vanish during upgrade and want to know how to avoid that happening.

Alternatively - is there a way I can export data from 3.5 and import it in to a fresh clean build?

Installation and Upgrades / Upgrade Zentyal 3.5 to 4 - modules vanish
« on: October 19, 2017, 09:14:21 pm »
Hi,

I'm trying to upgrade from Zentyal 3.5 to 4 just as a first step in bringing a server up to speed, the upgrade process completes but removes all my modules (and without a gateway but I can resolve that part). I lose openchange / samba etc and just return to a basic vanilla box. I have snapshot capability so can recover the 3.5 server but can't fathom what's causing the problem.

I have the upgrade logs (attached) - can anyone help spot what's happening? Any help would be really appreciated.

Installation and Upgrades / Upgraded - and all modules vanished
« on: July 09, 2016, 06:33:36 pm »
I took a Zentyal server through an upgrade this afternoon - from 3.5 -> 4.0 -> 4.1.9.

Imagine my surprise when I discovered that after 4.1.9, I had no modules installed and had potentially lost everything - but with no error messages during upgrade. Mailserver - gone. Openchange - gone. Samba 4 domain control - gone. All these were there at the 4.0 stage.

Lucky for me, the install was on a Nutanix system so I managed to restore from a snapshot and get back to 3.5.

I repeated the process and got the same result.

Is this a known issue? Without the snapshot, this would have been a real problem for me.

I've not resolved this but my work around has been:

1 - Remove z-push entirely
2 - Edit the /etc/apt/sources list to point at Zentyal 4
3 - apt get update
4 - install sogo active sync from the version 4 release whilst leaving everything as it was.

Activesync works like a charm now (mail, calendar, contacts) for Windows Phone and iPhone users and I'm no longer getting swamped with logs or repeated failures.

Naturally - do this at your own risk.

Many thanks, I will try this out.

Hi Folks,

I have a Zentyal server providing DNS services to multiple networks (routed on another device). In order to do this - I've had to add the subnets in to the trusted ACL in /etc/bind/named.conf.local

That works but every time the server gets rebooted, I lose the subnets and have to add them to the conf file all over again.

Is there a proper way of administering DNS on Znetyal to allow and manage trust to multiple networks on a more permanent basis?

After running without major issue on 3.2 for some time, I upgraded my Zentyal server (running openchange & Z-Push) to 3.5. What I didn't realiise before I deleted the pre upgrade snapshot was that my active sync contacts had ceased to work for all connected devices. To make the situation worse, the associated errors relating to failed contact sync caused around 3 GB of logs to be generated across apache2 / z-push and sogo directories per day.

I've also found stability to be particularly poor in this release - yet held back any further upgrade due to reluctance to lose features.

Eventually - the stability issues were enough to push me in to trying 4.0, although I kept the associated server snapshot this time. And I'm glad I did because that upgrade seems to have invalidated the SSL cert that the devices use for active sync and I lost connectivity for all devices entirely.

I've rolled back to 3.5 for now but would be very keen to hear from anyone that is running Openchange with Activesync (Windows Phone and Apple clients) that has managed to make the jump to 4.0 and keep active sync working.

I'm having major issues with z-push and IOS since IOS 8. On one device I can manually pull mail but push doesn't work and on others they wil do the initial sync and then just stop working.

I think this is an Apple issue.

Installation and Upgrades / Re: sogo-activesync package

I found the guidance on this thread helped me get z-push and activesync up and running:

https://forum.zentyal.org/index.php?topic=12323.0

Specifically this:

I have mine running on 443 and it syncs calendars and contacts over SSL.  I have several android phones and they all work fine.... actually I even have it going through a reverse proxy first.

You have to make sure your port 443 works first (you have to change your zentyal administration port to something else and then activate SSL under the web-server module)  Once SSL is working and you can see the standard Apache it works screen when visiting the site your HTTPS, you should be able to setup active sync by following the directions provided.

Test if the page works by visiting https://your.domain/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync through a regular browser.  See if it even comes up.... if you are successful I believe you see an error that says something along the lines this is for mobile devices only or your browser does not support this connection.  Either way you will know that it is working.... at that point you just have to setup active sync on the phone properly.

Installation and Upgrades / Openchange - Outlook 2011 MAC ?
« on: August 09, 2014, 06:44:17 pm »
Hi Folks,

Is Outlook 2011 for Mac supported with Openchange? If so - any configuration advice?

I'm attempting to connect to Openchange on on Zentyal 3.5

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Migrate from Zarafa to Openchange
« on: August 09, 2014, 02:26:40 pm »
I'm in a similar situation - Running Zarafa at the moment (non Zentyal) and would like to migrate users in to Zentyal Openchange. Whilst I don't expect the community edition to get any full on support form Zentyal over this - I'm a bit surprised that there are no hints or tips.

I guess an IMAP to IMAP copy tool will do for the email - but contacts / calendars etc are a different matter.  ???

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Openchange on non PDC ?

I wonder if it's just a hangover from when they were running OpenLDAP in parallel .. and it's been missed as an opportunity now we're 100% Samba4.

This is still the case in 3.5. I was hoping that changes to LDAP config meant that this would become possible.

Does anyone know if running OpenChange on a secondary DC rather than PDC  is on the roadmap?

Hi - I'm curious to know whether under 3.5 you can run the Openchange mail elements on a server other than the PDC? i.e. - Run it on Zentyal box that syncs with the PDC instead?
