Ubuntu 8.04 includes a great uPNP server called MediaTomb. Currently, it can't coexist with eBox on the same system due to some mulitcat routing issues. Making this work would be really great for home systems used to store and stream media content to uPNP clients (PS3, xbox360, Rythmbox, etc.).

My smarthost requires SMTP-auth for accepting any mail, even from local LAN. It would be great if authentication info could be added to the smarthost entry somehow.

I'm having serious issues trying to get eBox and MediaTomb to play nicely with each other. 
MediaTomb is a uPNP-server for multimedia content (useful for streaming content to a PS3 or 360), which listens to mulitcast packets and needs to establish special routing/firewall rules for this.
Somehow this works as long as ebox-firewall is not installed, but as soon as it is, MediaTomb stops working, although the service is still running. 
I tried adding a rule in the ebox-firewall module that would allow any traffic between the LAN and the eBox/MediaTomb system, to no avail...
MediaTomb tries to add a route like "route add -net 239.0.0.0 eth0" to the system. When eBox is not installed, you can see that this route exists after starting the MediaTomb service. When eBox is installed, however, I suspect the route either is never added or gets cleared out by the ebox-firewall module.
How can I fix this?

I just installed Ubuntu 8.04 LTS as well as the new 0.11.100 packages and all is well, except for the eBox software module:
The other menu items (system updates, automatic updates) seem to work well, only the ebox components throw this error.
Any idea what's causing this and how to fix it?

Basically, Samba now fully supports LDAP as a backend, without the need of any of the usual scripts like smbldap-tools etc.

I currently have a device on my network which is called "BRN_67471C". My old Bind9/Dhcp3 combo running on Debian Sarge has no trouble when I add this hostname with a fixed IP address. 
If I try to add it in eBox's DNS module, however, I get an exception thrown complaining about the underscore in the name.
Can this be circumvented somehow? The name is hardcoded in the device's DHCP client , so it would really help if eBox could be convinced to allow that name.

Installation and Upgrades / Adding a new printer not in list

I'm trying to add a new network printer to eBox, but there's no suitable driver in the list of known printers.
The printer is a Brother MFC-5840CN, which is well supported under Linux with drivers from Brother. I was pleasently surprised to find that Ubuntu 8.04 even comes with the lpr- und cupswrapper-drivers, so it should be a snap getting those to work in eBox, shouldn't it?
The problem is that I have no clue how the list of printers in eBox is compiled or how to add new drivers to that list.
Any ideas?

I'm looking at replacing a friend's old server running Debian 3.1 with a new one running Ubuntu 8.04 server and Ebox.
He has a Samba PDC as well as OpenVPN installed on that server, using port forwarding on his router to connect using port 1194.
Now, the trouble is that somehow Ebox insists on having OpenVPN use an "external" NIC, while Samba on Ebox only listens to an "internal" NIC. The way it is now, I can use only Samba OR OpenVPN, but not both at the same time, since he only has one NIC.
With his setup, he'd only need one NIC that can do both services using an internal IP-address.
Is there any proper way to work around this constraint?

OK, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post it, but here it goes anyway.
I think it would be cool if BackupPC (http://backuppc.sourceforge.net/) would be integrated into ebox, so it can really act as a central server for all needs, including backups.
Reason:
BackupPC is written in Perl, just like ebox.
In addition, it only uses tools that are already present on a stock ebox installation (excluding rsync perhaps).
Unlike other backup solutions, BackupPC requires no special client-side tools to be installed, which really helps ease of use. It can use anything from SSH, SMB or Rsync.
BackupPC is entirely disk based, so no tape handling is necessary.
Any thoughts?

I was wondering what the recommended backup procedure for ebox was regarding file shares and the operating system itself. I understand that the currently available backup module only backs up configuration files.
It would be nice if there was some structured way to create something like an admin share, which basically would export all files in / for some other PC to access and back up.
Currently, I'm thinking of installing rsync and let BackupPC on another host retrieve all the files. Another possibility would be to use remote SSH and pipe the entire filesystem through that.
Any thoughts?

ebox keeps getting better all the time, but there's one thing I miss in the current release: smartmontools! You see, I've had too many drives fail on me, so I'd at least like to be notified if one is about to go down.
The same goes for mdadm, which is there for software RAID purposes.
It would be nice if there'd be a little option to configure the basics right from the admin interface.
Now, what would be the best way to install smartmontools onto the current release without mixing up sources.list too much?
