Installation and Upgrades / Slow migration
« on: September 14, 2014, 08:58:16 am »
I am migrating a customer from their old, web based POP3 solution to their new, onsite Zentyal OpenChange server.

I am hoping to do a slow migration moving the users one at a time so I can set them up nicely and spend time making sure they are comfortable with the new systems.

I thought I could be really clever by using Fetchmail to grab a users email from the POP3 server onto the Zentyal server when I migrate them and indeed that works a treat but I didn't think about sending email.

If they send externally it's fine but if they send internally to a team member who is not on the Zentyal box that team members email sits on the Zentyal box which they are not yet looking at.

Has anyone worked around this problem before or does anyone have any better solutions?

Installation and Upgrades / Outlook Auto Configuration
« on: August 22, 2014, 03:48:06 pm »
This *almost* works

Make a SRV record in your DNS

_autodiscover._tcp.mycompany.com.   1H IN SRV   0 0 443 zentyal.mycompany.com.

Now when you open an unconfigured outlook it just needs your Name, email address and password then it auto configures itself.

It is very close but not quite there, no doubt someone smarter than I am can explain what is needed to make it perfect?

Installation and Upgrades / FQDN or .lan
« on: August 22, 2014, 09:50:20 am »
Hello All,

I am trying to migrate a 2003 Domain to Zentyal but the current internal domain is thecompany.local so I need to move to a new domain.

Should I make the domain thecompany.lan or thecompany.co.uk (their FQDN) ?

Simon
(Ouch! 25 profiles to migrate - thank goodness for Windows Easy Transfer)

Anyone seen the below before?

"Cannot open your default e-mail folders. You must connect to Microsoft Exchange with the current profile before you can syncronize your folders with your Outlook data file (.ost)."

I made a new Zentyal 3.4, joined a Win7 to the domain and setup Outlook.  NameCheck worked OK but when I open OL I get that message.

Just wondering if anyone had seen it and could spot where I went wrong?

Installation and Upgrades / Taking over an existing domain
« on: May 07, 2014, 10:35:08 am »
So, I am replacing an old Win 2003 SP2 File Server and DC

I setup Zentyal
Join the domain as an Additional Controller
Take over the FSMO roles
Make a new share
Copy the files over to the new share on Zentyal (how best to copy 400GB?)

Is there a way to shut down the old server and not have to change all share names?

\\winserver to \\zentyal

Installation and Upgrades / Logging
« on: April 05, 2014, 11:26:36 am »
I am trying to resolve a problem whereby I can't get Zentyal to join an existing Samba 3.2.6 domain and a friend has asked me to give him a Level 9 log.

I have edited /usr/share/zentyal/stubs/samba/smb.conf.mas and rebooted but it does not seem to be logging - what should I be doing?

root@zentyal:~# grep log /usr/share/zentyal/stubs/samba/smb.conf.mas
    log level = 9
    log file = /var/log/samba/samba.log

Installation and Upgrades / New Server
« on: April 03, 2014, 05:44:54 pm »
Hello All,

Just preparing for my first, live Zentyal roll out.

I have built a Z3.4 on KVM and joined the Domain which is currently controlled by a Windows 2003 DC - worked a treat.

I span up the Z3.4 on my workshop server and joined the domain using a tunnel from 40 miles away - awesome!

Now I have the new hardware to build their own server so I can install it next week.

I have an ML310 and am planning on using stock Ubuntu 12.04 to run KVM

2 x 2TB 7200rpm SATA Disks in Software RAID 1 for the Virtual Machines and a 3TB disk for rsnapshot and other backups.

Any advice before I start installing?

Installation and Upgrades / Joining a Samba 3 Domain
« on: March 28, 2014, 04:25:24 pm »
Hi All, I have a Samba version 3.6.2 running a domain and I was hoping to Join a Zentyal 3.4 as an Additional Controller then promote it to take the FSMO roles and take over so I can retire the old samba server.

However, I can't get Zentyal to join the domain, it says

The specified domain controller 81.24.63.124 is unreachable.at /usr/share/perl5/EBox/Samba/Provision.pm line 827 EBox::Samba::Provision::checkServerReachable('EBox::Samba::Provision=HASH(0x4c6ca70)', 81.24.63.124) called at /usr/share/perl5/EBox/Samba/Provision.pm line 1279

I can ping the existing samba dc by name or IP

My first question is 'should' I be able to join this domain?

Installation and Upgrades / Migrate single Exchange Mailbox
« on: March 18, 2014, 11:02:06 am »
How do I migrate just one mailbox from Exchange to Zentyal OpenChange?

Do I have to modify a setting in Active Directory, or is it a property I can set in the Zentyal management interface?

TIA  Simon.

Installation and Upgrades / Windows 7 Joining Domain
« on: March 09, 2014, 10:55:46 am »
Hi All, I have freshly installed a Zentyal 3.3 Community Edition and updated.  I can not get a Win7 RC1 to join the domain.

I have applied the reg patch and tested with other Win7 laptops but no go.

I am reading about 'realms', 'netbios domains' and 'dns domains' but have become somewhat confused.

Is there a definitive checklist or summary that I can follow to make sure I have all the above parameters set correctly?

TIA

Simon
