Installation and Upgrades / Service drops in ebox on 1.4.2
« on: July 15, 2010, 10:37:51 pm »
Hi everyone !

I've been struggling for quite some time now to get my server running smooth!

I did my setup in network/interfaces eth0=internet gateway (wan) eth1 is my wireless network and eth2 is my local LAN

I have a windows pc with dude installed which monitors my local and wireless connections !

My setup in ebox is router directly connected to eth0, my local network connected directly to eth2 via switch , my wireless network connected directly connected  to eth1 via switch ,the windows pc with dude on has 2 separate network cards in one connected directly to the wireless network switch and the other  to my LAN switch so both networks can be scanned without being able to see one another via that 1 pc with dude (probes all services in 30 second intervals) !

In ebox/network/interfaces/eth2 I created my local network gateway with ip 192.127.1.250 and setup the route in ebox/network/static routes to network 192.127.1.0/24  gateway 192.127.1.250

In ebox/network/interfaces/eth1 I created my wireless network gateway with ip 192.168.2.250 and setup the route in ebox/network/static routes to network 192.168.2.0/24  gateway 192.168.2.250

All is working perfectly mail, dns, file server ,voip ,proxy internet and web server but I have in intervals of 1 hour a total of 1 minute service drops where ping, smtp, pop3 ,imap4 ,ssh and http drops and I can only shorten the time of inactivity by pinging one of the pc's in that network from ebox itself

Now I have tracked the problem down to the firewall itself by viewing my firewall logs ! The firewall simply drops connections made from any pc in that network to ebox for that time!

How do I fix this problem  ???

Installation and Upgrades / timeouts to ebox via local lan
« on: July 10, 2010, 12:32:09 pm »
Hi to all !

I have some difficulties with my current ebox setup (could be the way its setup or even the pc might be to slow either way I really need to resolve this!) I have 2 internet gateways 1=512kb sat-link (just for my mail) and the other is a 1mb/s wireless isp in town(for all other services) both connected to one switch witch is connected to my LAN and the ebox server !

I did setup the server(ebox) for proxy mail voip dns file server and web server all working perfectly!

the only problem is I have some timeouts on this server in 15min intervals for 45 min some times where all the services drop and then picks up again you can not ping, access the box or even send and receive mail ! I have dude installed on one of the local pc's which monitors all traffic via smtp and of coarse the services ! I can then see when services drop and pick up again all stays alive accept for the ebox server!

The pc ebox is loaded on is an Intel 2.5ghz 1gb ram and 360gb hdd (with a CPU load of 56% and ram usage of 384mb I don't think the box is the problem but I might be wrong)!

How do I fix the timeouts I do have a hunch its something small in the firewall!!

Hi

I'm using windows xp sp2 and WinSCP to browse files on the ebox system, every time I need to change something (like uploading web pages)I need to use putty !

Ive tried to set permissions to my WinSCP but it doesn't change a thing

when I log into ebox using putty and use the sudo command ebox asks me for the password again and this is what I'm stuck with by using the same password as i use to log in I can change stuff!

Is there a way to give the user I'm currently using superuser rights ???

Hi fellow ebox users I have a problem Maybe my fault but never the less I want to make sure it doesn't happen again!

I have installed ebox ver 1.2.3 and configured everything and as usual all was working extremely well but the past 3 days the proxy internet started making trouble and the mail as well as the dns pop proxy samba and even the smtp!

This problem is that it drops all requests towards ebox for a while then it starts working again and after about 15min it drops again If I ping the server`s ip all the time all is well doesnt drop anything and it works all the time

after a restart this problem starts at about the fifth hour

What can be the problem and how do I go about fixing it?

Hi

I have a small problem ......

After a restart (on my client pc to the ebox proxy server) all is working well but after a wile non of the services from my ebox server (proxy internet pop3 mail smtp not even samba works, I then need to ping the server ip or do a network repair by right clicking on the network icon and then on repair for it to start working again !

What can be the problem here

Is there a session handler of some sort handling connections to the server itself ???

Installation and Upgrades / How to route dns to a host on my lan
« on: December 14, 2009, 10:01:25 pm »
Hi to all

This is what I want to do:

I have a windows PC with iis (web page and Mozilla ftp ) with ip address 10.0.0.1

I want to be able to route the ftp and web page on this PC to a dns on my ebox server and only allow it to the internal LAN clients only (not accessible via the wan clients ie internet users)

Is this possible and if so how do I configure it on my ebox ver 1.2 server??

Installation and Upgrades / Ebox 1.2 not stable
« on: December 06, 2009, 11:18:50 pm »
Hi Guys

Ive been using ebox for the last 2 years and seen how its developed into a system anyone could use at home or at the office and I must add Im using it as a mail,proxy,web-server and a PDC ive now also using the asterisk for internal telecommunications  at the office! And its working great thanks to the development team!

Ive got a few questions though :

when using the proxy for internet at times the browsing and email retrieval throuh pop and imap gets inactive Ive read in previous posts(when the forum had the old look BTW new one looks great) that it has to do with the firewall(if I can remember correctly) how do I go about fixing this problem?

also in the previous server (same version) I managed to get the mail to relay through my server using smtp with this one its just impossible !

Any one any ideas??

Installation and Upgrades / Mail relay config
« on: November 20, 2009, 04:08:54 pm »
Hi I am struggling with my mail relay this is what I did :

1: setup my eth0 to my router 10.0.0.100 to router 10.0.0.2
2: setup my eth1 to my network 192.127.1.250 for network 192.127.1.0/32
3: added the object admin with network 192.127.1.0/32
4: added my smtp host to smarthoast at mail/general
5: added admin to relay policy for network objects
6: added mail system in all packet filtering packets at firewall/packet filtering

I can use my mail server and everything if I plug my router into the network switch and change my settings on my mail client to my isp`s smtp server instead of my server`s ip address ! so my mail server is working my dns is working all is working except my mail relay

Im using ebox ver 1.2 (just for reference)

This is my configuration Id like to be able to achieve:

in my mail client (outlook ) pop3 config

name                   = admin
email address       = admin@mydomain.com
pop3 server          = ebox ip address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
smtp server          = ebox ip address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
username             = admin@mydomain.com
password              = admin123

If tis is put in all is working except my smtp (outgoing mail pops up error smtp server found but no responce please check your ssl port and settings)

now if I plug in the router to the network switch (not directly into the ebox server) and put in the same smtp server address that I put into ebox at smart host (my isp`s smtp server) it sends and receives!!

Installation and Upgrades / DynDNS Q??
« on: September 22, 2009, 10:26:40 pm »
I have ebox v 1.2.1 running and its fabulous !!!

one thing I configured my ebox to the dyndns site and everything works out perfect the web server, e groupware, and administration  now that Ive tested it how can i configure my ebox to link to the domain running at my isp ?? (the free dns service of DynDNS does not support static ip setting and it does not seem to have reverse lookup enabled)

I did set the dns in my server for the mx records to route back to my ip but still does not solve this!!

Installation and Upgrades / Ebox 1.2.1 Outages
« on: September 17, 2009, 01:08:14 am »
Hi Ive been using ebox ver 0.12 for quite a wile and I can say Its the best one so for no trouble and prefect for my application the new ebox (from ebox ver 1 to 1.2.1 ) all seem to have a problem when using the transparent proxy there seem to bee outages as if the server I'm running cannot except any new connections and has to dump everything and the for at least 3 min it is unusable even the shares from pdc are not available but you can ping the sever ?? any ideas what might cause this??

ebox ver 1.2.1 with the voip and proxy auth is the best I like very much but cannot use the full potential as I have to run my old ebox ver 0.12 on another server in order to have steady and reliable internet through my proxy

The server im running is a :

P4 intel core2duo 2ghz
2gb ram
80gb hhd
3 realtec 100/1000 mb lan + one onboard 100mb lan

the onboard to the router and then one for voip
one for vpn(dhcp)
and one for the proxy

Id like to run all the sevices from one server could anyone tell me how to fix the outages please??
