Oops,

First of all, I am really bothered none of you received a reply from our side earlier ...  this has not been done on purpose - does not make this situation acceptable anyhow :-[

If I summarize this thread, the problem you experience is systematic and recurrent crashes of OpenChange/Samba after you import a given PST file.

During 3.5 development, we have tackled down and fixed 2 potential root causes that could have impacted PST import. As it sounds this discussion only finds echo in the forum, I would like to leverage this to ask one of you if he would agree to:

1. share his PST file with us so we can reproduce the issue and fix the root cause?
2. create a ticket in tracker.zentyal.org and attach the crash report to it? (I have increased our attachment limits to 15Mb, so it should be enough to include them)

If you have already sent a crashreport, just give us an approximate time range when you submitted it and we should be able to retrieve it!

Cheers,
Julien.

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Problem with outlook anywhere
« on: April 16, 2014, 11:50:45 am »
1) Is there any temporary fix or workaround for this so we do not have to press <shift-f9> to check email?

Eventually, there should be an Outlook settings you can play with to force shorter mail retrieval frequency, but I can't guarantee this would be enough and/or different from pressing <Send/Receive>.

2) Is there an eta for 3.5?

ETA is 15th June - roadmap, expected feature list and changes already scheduled to be published very soon.

Julien.

This is a known issue that will be addressed in Zentyal 3.5.

When you press Send/Receive, Outlook performs a "passive" lookup and only checks if there is something new at the synchronization level. The <Shift+F9> forces Outlook to be active and look for new emails in mailbox folders first. The fix will allow Outlook to be notified when a new mail arrives and updates it automatically which requiring any user intervention (press send/receive).

Hi,

Is the behavior different if you press <SHIFT+F9> to update the Inbox folder?

Installation and Upgrades / Re: SOGo hanging
« on: April 14, 2014, 12:07:10 pm »
Hi Dan,

Thanks for pushing this up.

SOGo is by default spawning a new child every time it receives a request. However the number of children is by default set to 1 unless the parameter is tuned - which Zentyal currently does not handle. In your case, you want to play with the WOWorkersCount parameter and increase it to match the average number of current users at a given time on the system. For instance:

  • Edit /usr/share/zentyal/stubs/openchange/sogo.conf.mas
  • Add the workers count parameter: WOWorkersCount = 40
  • Restart services

Cheers,
Julien.

Installation and Upgrades / Re: ubuntu 13.10 end of life+zentyal 3.4
« on: March 21, 2014, 11:17:52 am »
ubuntu 13.10 will go "end of life" on july of this year, so is there only 4 months for zentyal 3.4 life  ?

Yes

if i install zentyal 3.4 now, will there be an update of the zentyal used packages (openchange, ...)
in order to upgrade to ubuntu 14.04 LTS from april to june please ?

No we won't provide a distribution upgrade scenario to update Zentyal Server 3.4 from 13.10 to 14.04, only between Zentyal Server edition releases. See below.

or will there be a zentyal 3.5 for ubuntu 14.04 LTS sometime in those months ?

Yes Zentyal 3.5 will be based on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and be available around end of Q2 and there will be an upgrade path from 3.4 to 3.5

Br,
Julien.

No it is not.

The feature is scheduled to be reengineered, polished and published in 3.5.

News and Announcements / Re: Goodbye Christian
« on: March 19, 2014, 05:40:06 pm »
Christian was a very valuable contributor and member of the Zentyal community. We are thankful for all the time he has invested in helping countless number of users, solving doubts and problems they may have about Zentyal. I personally had a lot of pleasure discussing with Christian despite our diverging opinions.

I however don't understand this constant and unacceptable reference you make about Zentyal not being a true open source project. This is a gratuitous and unfounded attack. This is an insult to all the developers who have invested significant part of their personal time and professional carrier building up a free and open source stack to replace Microsoft software and services stack. This is above all despising the efforts of the Zentyal development team on the forum and tracker.

One one hand, you know where Zentyal stands and you know what we are heading to. The new Zentyal slogan should lead to no confusion: Active Exchange. On other hand, you are a forum moderator and to this regards, every time you post on the forums, you represent Zentyal. You are therefore expected to provide a minimum of respect and moderate your words some more. If you can't restrain your personal opinions or just want to express them freely, I would kindly ask you to have the same courtesy Christian did in giving away his moderation privileges.

There is no reason to be unhappy here, we just want this collaboration to be positive and rewarding but it won't work out if you keep being in this unhappy mood.

Br,
Julien.

Hi Luigi,

We have been working among last weeks on stabilizing OpenChange/DC connection stability and fault tolerance wrt Outlook clients. It is not yet perfect, but we expect last 3.4 release commits to bring significant improvements. If it does not beat the game, additional improvements are expected among forthcoming weeks. FYI, we do not have yet strong Outlook 2013 QA scenarios, it is therefore very likely to be more easily broken than a setup with Outlook 2003/2007 or 2010.

Are you connecting to Zentyal with Microsoft Outlook 2013 using RPC over HTTP (Outlook Anywhere) or MAPI?

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Upgrade from 3.3 to 3.4
« on: March 17, 2014, 03:32:53 pm »
Hi,

The migration from 3.3 to 3.4, not only affect Zentyal but also involves a Ubuntu base distribution upgrade. Given the complexity of the scenario to ensure no regression is experienced by users, we have therefore decided to postpone this migration process for a few weeks so we have time to consolidate the scenario.

Should have been fixed few days ago.

the team will double check.

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Is Zentyal 3.4 out now?
« on: March 17, 2014, 10:45:43 am »
3.4 is going out today in the afternoon - last checks and QA review in the pipe.

Releasing on a Saturday night (15th) would probably have brought disco fever, but was not the best for quality assurance
