Installation and Upgrades / Block software install
« on: April 23, 2015, 05:54:11 pm »
Does anyone know if there are any online wiki with screen shots that can guide me through how to use standard Microsoft GPOs?  I would like to block domain users from installing software on PCs.

Installation and Upgrades / Should I usr 'ad' or 'mail' as hostname
« on: April 23, 2015, 05:50:02 pm »
Hi, if I want my Zentyal to be a primary domain controller only for internal users, but provide mail as well for both internal and external users, can I do the following?
1) Name it with a hostname 'ad'.
Only internal users can see ad.domain.com.
2) Setup an alias 'mail' via its DNS module.
Both internal and external mail users see mail.domain.com.

Is this how I should set it up?

Hi, I must have done it 15 times by now.  I tried enabling Domain Controller and Mail on the Modules page but I'm getting the following error.
Code: [Select]
Samba can't be provisioned if no IP addresses are set for domain [domain name I configured].
Ensure that you have at least a IP address assigned to an interface, and this IP has to be assigned to the domain [domain name I configured] and to the local hostname.
You can assign it in the IP addresses page for [domain name I configured]

I have added an IP address for the domain.  I have even added an additional interface as suggested on the forum for the Zentyal host, rebooted the box, but still doesn't work.

Am using version 4.1.

Installation and Upgrades / Re: No GUI after installation

I found the solution.  When installing on VMWare Workstation, you must
1) New Virtual Machine -> Next
2) Next
3) Select "I will install the operating system later", Next.
Note if you select "Installer disc image file (iso)" here and choose the Zentyal ISO, you'll have problems.
4) Do what you normally do to create a new VM.

Once it's setup, before starting the VM, edit the settings to have it load from an ISO with the DVD ROM.

I did not specify any modes from what I can recall.  Can you tell me which screen it is on so I can try again?

And is it confirmed the downloaded ISO must be burnt to DVD or USB in order for it to work properly?  I'm building the VM by specifying the ISO.  What if I don't have access to either DVD or USB?

So does Zentyal support installing on a VM?  Has anyone done this successfully?  Have you encountered any issues?

Thanks but I'm installing this on a VMWare Workstation now to go through the steps, and later on a VMWare ESXi.  Either case I don't think I can use USB or DVD / CD-ROM.  Is using USB or DVD / CD-ROM a must for the install?

Hi I must be going insane with this but I have just spent my whole afternoon installing both 4.0 and 4.1 half a dozen times each.  Was trying to follow steps on the following link but neither versions have installation menus as simple as what's shown.
https://wiki.zentyal.org/wiki/En/4.0/Installation

The menus I was given has the following and I tried to skip the ones highlighted with an asterisk.  As the installation progress more and more menus appear to have been added (ie partitioning hard disk, APT manager, etc).  But the most troubling thing is regardless of how many times I have gone through with this I ended up booting it up with a CLI interface.  Can someone please let me know what I have done wrong?
Choose language
Configure the keyboard
Detect and mount CD-ROM
*Load debconf preconfiguration file
Load installer components from CD
*Change debconf priority
*Check the CD-ROM(s) integrity
*Save debug logs
*Execute a shell
*Abort the installation
