you are not alone... customer / community support is in the making :-)  I'm running 3.2 as well and the first thisng to know is the way to do it is to upgrade one version at a time. This upgrade process is via command line (I have not the specifics but hopefully you could find it on the Web).

** the recommended way is to fresh install however

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Upgrade zentyal 3.4 to 3.5

... I don't have any help for you but a question, I would like to know what do you mean by "upgrading"? do you install in place? do you re-install and then copy data files?

I have a Zentyal 3.2 domain with two servers (PDC/BDC). The other day I installed a new Zentyal server, v3.5 but I couldn't make them talk, v3.5 refused to join to the v3.2 domain, is this part of the "upgrade" problem??

Good luck!

No, you don't need to do this on every computer, just in one from which you'll be managing and setting the desired background or any other parameters. Just like in a Windows domain. Good luck!

Installation and Upgrades / Adding more disks
« on: September 04, 2014, 06:42:58 pm »
Hi,

I'm adding more disks --RAID 5-- to an existing Zentyal 3.2 install and I have everything configured, mounted and the fstab modified (not restarted yet):

I have used the following parameters for fstab "errors=remount-ro,usrquota,grpquota,acl,user_xattr" (copied from another Zentyal server I have).

My problem is that I want to move the entire /home folder to this new disk and I would like to make myself sure whether the procedure is like the standard Ubuntu procedure or I have to watch something else out.

Any comment and advice would be appreciated, thank you!

P.S. This server's role is BDC and doesn't have any file at the moment

Hello there,

This is marked as SOLVED but it isn't apparently... today we are having this same problem but slightly different. We do not have access to the Webadmin interface with the error message "Waiting until Zentyal...". We do have network and DNS access from / to the server to Internet sites or internal computers. Logins and shares are working fine. Just the admin interface doesn't work (and not sure whether anything else).

Tailing the log, I can see my workstation being denied (?) (servername = my actual servername replaced)

...

We do have ssh access. We are currently on Zentyal version 2.8 ~ 2.9, not completely sure now... how do I double check this?

Thank you in advance for any advice or suggestions...

Hi,

is there any way to upgrade from 3.2 or I will have to start a new installation?

anyone would have any idea about this??  :-*

Hi,

I need to set up a dedicated backup server and I think Amanda would do the job, but I was wondering whether Zentyal have some of those capacities.

Do anyone here have any experience setting up Zentyal purely as a backup server to backup remote clients like Windows? My network already hosts two "windows" Zentyal servers.

Thank you in advance.

Hi, 3.4 is ready and I would like to know whether it is possible to upgrade from 3.2.8 online? Maybe I should follow a procedure?

Thank you!

Installation and Upgrades / Share permissions
« on: January 20, 2014, 01:55:39 pm »
Hello, as we were trying to assign permissions to a relatively big folder it took a long time, so we decided to end up the process and re-start, but...

1. although the user/group were already assigned, they had no permissions
2. removing and then adding a user / group to the share, even with administrator privileges, had no effect

We thought it was a corruption problem which solved by the "painful start over" process of deleting, creating shares and then assigning privileges which take more or less time depending on the folder size (don't forget to restart the server).

My question would be if there is a way to set these permission assigning processes from the server itself and not from the web client??  I mean, is there a remote graphical desktop to access servers?

My bonus question would be if there is something like the NTFS permissions? Please, bear with me as we are switching from Windows to Zentyal.

Best regards.

Installation and Upgrades / Shadow copy in Zentyal
« on: August 21, 2013, 07:52:43 pm »
Hi, I would appreciate if someone could confirm there is a functionality called "shadow copy" (In Windows servers it's called like that), which allows users to keep certain document versions.

Thank you in advance.
