Installation and Upgrades / Re: Missing modules - they dissapeared
« on: April 06, 2013, 02:44:37 am »
I find it best to manually apply updates on a scheduled basis and alwyas have a way out - ie I image the disk. Not just true for zentyal but other linux or windows boxes too.

I see exactly the same symptoms!! Only with chrome over an internet connection (in my case vpn)
That message you saw in safari it would indicate that they only test against firefox. Consequently they are very unlikely to do anything about chrome issues. Might be worth pointing out to them that the message doesn't appear in other browsers but I think the solution (that works for me anyway) is just to use firefox
btw am also a web dev and I have experienced some js related issues with chrome. I think it was to do with openlayers though which is a js mapping control we use. Nevertheless it illustrates that it's not just IE that causes frustrating problems, it seems we can't take other browsers for granted either.

Ah having experimented a bit this seems quite browser specific.
On windows 7 sp1
it's slow in chrome v26.0.1410.43 m
It's fast in firefox 19.0.2
It's fast in IE 9
So this would indicate it's a browser incompatibility with the client side code in the site. Which explains why it exhibits itself on the dashboard page. It must have js call backs to updated the network usage / software updates and other panels.
otoh - can you check with some different browsers and feed back. It might be a re creatable bug.

Yes indeed it's not a resource issue by any means, the server bairly notices and this is a bare metal install rather then virtual (not that it would make much difference). When accesing the admin site locally it is reasonably fine. The only delay is over the vpn. I should point out that the connection to the zarafa web site over the same link is instant, ftp transfers are alos pretty snappy. So the problem is definatly with the administration site. Server restarts, full reboot, or service restarts, have not effect on the issue.
I suspect the issue may have something to do with the automatic refreshing that takes place on that page.

In order to use bridging you need to go to the interfaces configuration settings on your zentyal host and set one of your interfaces to bridged. You will then see the bridge in the dropdown.

I see the same if I connect to the server over a vpn. The dashboard very seldom loads. I work around it by going to another page directly first. Its just the dashboard thats screwed. However once I'm in at another page I can usually jump to the dashboard

Installation and Upgrades / Only getting intermitant notifications
« on: April 03, 2013, 03:52:32 pm »
Hi
I have regular daily backups set up. These are working fine.
I have the backup event selected and have configured the mail dispatcher. However I only get mails intermittently, usually on the monday or tuesday. The rest of the time I get nothing. I've checked the mail logs and nothing has been sent so I can conlude that the mail was never generated.
Any ideas?

It's not you!
It's the Chinese!
I had the same with a bunch of cheap dvd's I bought a while ago. Works on my desktop not my laptop. Sort of works on one of the servers not on others. Symptoms appear with everything from linux iso's to msdn downloads.

Installation and Upgrades / SSH connections are "reflected" back to the guest
« on: April 03, 2013, 12:30:56 pm »
I have a turnkey linux mindtouch virtual machine hosted on my zentyal box.
If i have a single bridged adapter then I cannot connect via ssh from the guest to the host either by name or ip.
DNS resolution works. I can resolve the host ip /name correctly. However if I try to ssh to to the host then the connection is 'reflected' back to the guest. Ie i end up connecting to the guest NOT the host. SSH reports no errors.
For example if my host IP is 192.168.1.1 and if I do ssh usr@192.168.1.1 it will log in as usr but i will get the greeting message from my vm and a quick exploration of the file system indicates that i am on the vm. Of course usr has to exist on the vm
I can prove this with
ssh root@myhost (or root@192.168.1.1) I will be able to log in and I will be logged in to the guest (192.168.1.20). root does not exist on the host or is disabled so I can't log in.
Furthermore I will get the greeting message from the ssh on my guest not the host which looks different
And finally if i make changes to the file system in the session they appear on the guest file system not the host.
It can't be all connections that are getting reflected because I can query the dns server on the host??
If I add an internal lan (a virtual lan that just allows connections between the host and other vms) then ssh works I can connect externally using the ip of the host on this lan. This would be fine but for some inexplicable reason it breaks the openldap authentication in the mindtouch wiki that is running on the vm. If I delete the internal lan openldap works ok again.
I can connect from the host zentyal machine to the guest os and I can ssh to both machines externally.
I should point out that the same vm behaves as expected running under virtual box in windows. The problem only manifests itself on the zentyal box.
Any ideas where to even start with this?

Installation and Upgrades / Re: [SOLVED] !!!Beware of DNS updates (1:9.8.1.dfsg.P1-4ubuntu0.6)!!!
« on: April 02, 2013, 06:27:37 pm »
Hi txsastre
That looks like a very different problem to the one I was experiencing which was caused by the DNS update causing the zentyal DNS package to uninstalled because of package dependency issues. That particular problem seems to be solved.
I think your issue is more subtle and you should probably start a new thread for it.
If it helps, I was having very different problems with my dns not allowing updates from clients, but the fix might still help you.
I reinitialised the samba dns settings with the following command.
sudo samba_upgradedns --dns-backend=BIND9_DLZ
It sounds like a trust relationship has got broken somewhere so you could also try recreating the relationship between your zentyal ad and your domain.
You might not be able to do either of course if your dns is totally blown to the point it won't start

« on: March 30, 2013, 10:31:44 pm »
I'm not sure I understand what you mean by container
Do you mean that you have zentyal running as a vm with the host (container) having a firewall
Or
Do you have a system with both the zentyal firewall module installed and some other firewall managemenet tool installed?
If it is the latter scenario then I suggest you disable the firewall module in the core --> module status web interface. This "might" allow you to satisfy the dependancy without causing the firewall to conflict with the configuration supplied by your other tool
