Title: questions about DNS?
Post by: killmasta93 on May 27, 2019, 12:01:32 am
Hi,
I was wondering if someone could shed some light on the issue im having. Currently wanting to swich from windows to zentyal, as running a test enviroment first i wanted to see how it goes. So far so good only 3  things i didnt understand.

1) as for the DNS i can resolve the name but when i try to resolve by IP it cannot find it, in theory the DHCP should inject it

2) howcome the DHCP works so differnt as to add static has to be out of the DHCP scope, i guess it applies in all linux servers which give out DHCP like pfSense

3) as the network share how can i remove the Drive which auto mount it, or how could i change the home location to save into another drive inside of zentyal?

Thank you

Hi!
Zentyal manages automatically inverse resolution.

Read the docs about DNS. I think you have forgotted to configure some DNS options.  ;)

Working with DHCP obliges you to use multigateway rules.

I have no time in this moment but i'll try to help you later.

hanks for the reply,  for the DNS i have activated Enable transparent DNS cache

but the issue is that its not resolving by IP but by name yes

if i do nslookup 192.168.8.44 it cannot find the name but if i do the same by name it works
i think it has to do with DHCP

i was reading this and think its still an issue

Yes it could be the problem source. Samba4 is heavily integrated with Bind9...

I wonder if the machines which have this problem are joined to the domain... Do you have your Zentyal server configured as Domain Controller, isn't it?

yes correct i have to say something odd as the DHCP is not registering the PTR, but yes connecting to the domain works but awk how its not registering the PTR kinda sucks

I have done some trials and I have the same problem. It seems to me that the dynamic DNS feature has a bug.

I have done a request for the developer and I have found some reports about this. It should be fixed on Zentyal 6.1, apparently.

Cheers!

 :P

I don't know really but Zentyal 6.1 should be released in some months as far as it should fix the detected issues.

Cheers!
