Email and Groupware / Webmail send as alias
« on: January 13, 2016, 07:13:32 pm »
Using Zentyal 4.1.8 with the new openchange groupware and I don't see a way in the webmail to choose alternate addresses to choose from when using multiple domains for one user.  In Zarafa is had a drop down to do so.  Am I missing a config somewhere or is it not possible with the new system?

Installation and Upgrades / New internet connection is slow
« on: July 31, 2013, 08:38:41 pm »
I have Zentyal 2.2.9 installed and updated on a box with cable internet.  Our current speed is 60/3 but we're trying to connect a new fiber connection that should be 100/100.  With the cable connection we get our max speed and everything works great.  As soon as I change the static IP on eth0 to the fiber and plug it in the speeds vary and are extremely slow with high packet loss.  However, I can scp files to and from the fiber ISP at a full 100 Mbps rate so the fiber line from the firewall itself is getting full speed.  I use transparent proxy but I also tried turning that off and I get the same result.  What would cause 1 connection to function fine and another to be so horrible?

Installation and Upgrades / Beta 2.1 users module won't start
« on: September 08, 2011, 07:32:48 am »
I just upgraded 2.0 to the new beta 2.1 and although the 1st few hours squid was able to start somehow the next morning squid was stopped and couldn't start again cause the users module wasn't working.  I tried to enable the users module but get the following error in the log:

Installation and Upgrades / Jabber clients SSL Connection failed
« on: November 08, 2010, 06:48:30 pm »
I used the new Zentyal desktop package to automate the configuration of a workstation.  However, pidgin is unable to sign in and gives the following error message "SSL Connection failed."  I have the service certificate for jabber enabled in the ca module.  One thing I noticed though is that if I try to disable the certificate and save then Zentyal will say it failed to save some of the modules and the ca status is unknown.  I tried to enable and disable that certificate multiple times but still no luck.  There isn't any output in the Zentyal error log other than the ca status is unknown so I don't know what's causing it.  All my other services such as openvpn, https virtual servers, and mail certificates work.

One other thing I noticed is that Zentyal desktop doesn't seem to configure the mail client correctly.  I'm assuming this is because I'm using Zarafa instead of the regular mail module.

Installation and Upgrades / Ubuntu VPN client Howto
« on: November 04, 2010, 04:21:47 am »
Since there isn't any documentation that I've found about connecting an Ubuntu desktop to a Zentyal VPN server I figured this might be a little help to someone.  It's fairly simple but did take some trial and error on my part to get it perfect.

1. Install network-manager-openvpn on the desktop client.

2. Click on network manager and go to VPN Connections -> Configure VPN

3. Click on import and browse to the vpn.conf file that was extracted from the file you downloaded from Zentyal.  It will automatically do the majority of the hard work.

4. Double click on that new VPN connection that was imported and go to the Advanced button.  In there you'll want to check the box that says Use LZO data compression.  Until I did this my connection was not reaching any IP address on my network and noticed lots of errors in the VPN log on the server.

Note - That's all for the required configurations but here are some extra things I did to actually have a decent experience with the VPN.  If you don't want to proceed you will be able to connect to your network via IP addresses.

5. Click on the IPv4 Settings tab as we'll be making a few changes in there.

5.1.   If you have the DNS module enabled you will probably want to change the Method drop down to only use Automatic (VPN) addresses only.  The reason for this is to reach your web sites by domain rather than IP addresses which is especially important if you configured multiple HTTPS sites as they MUST be by domain.  After you change the Method drop down you'll notice the text fields at the bottom become available.  Type in your Zentyal server IP addresses and the domain to search.

5.2.  Next big thing is if you want to be able to browse the Internet on your client while using the VPN.  I'm aware the Internet traffic could be routed through the VPN which will be convenient if you're at a public hotspot but I don't want that cause I use a cell phone connection.  Having said that, I also haven't bothered researching how to route the VPN client's Internet traffic through the VPN connection due to the fact that I don't want it so I really don't know how (if somebody wants to put the howto in the comments it would be appreciated).  Click on the Routes button.  After that opens you'll want to check the box that says "Use this connection only for resources on its network."

I'm not an expert so if somebody has other suggestions or cool ideas that could be done you're more than welcome to add them.  I just realize that it took me a few minutes to get my VPN going exactly how I wanted and I haven't found any other post talking about the client side.

This past weekend I finally decided to upgrade to 2.0.6 hoping for a better experience with Master/Slave.  Once again, although I followed the documentation perfectly but it stops syncing the users and becomes useless (in this case I only get the first user to sync and nothing further).  After erasing the modules again and starting over with the configuration a couple times I'm starting to wonder if it's worth the battle.  This is a poll to find out if I just have bad luck or if there are too many bugs with the Master/Slave and I should just forget about it.  Please leave comments in the notes if you found any tricks to fix it.

Installation and Upgrades / Z-Push SSL for mobile devices
« on: October 22, 2010, 06:17:05 pm »
I spent a while last night on a practice server trying to get Zarafa and Z-Push to work.  I wasn't able to get activesync to work on my mobile device until I opened up the server to port 80 on the outside (which I would rather not do cause there are web apps I don't want out there).  My phone (Android) has an option for SSL when configuring the server settings but I had to uncheck that to make it work as well.  Is there a way that mobile devices can sync without port 80 exposed and also adding more security with SSL?  The documentation on activesync is quite incomplete as it just says enable the check mark but doesn't say anything about the requirement to open up ports manually through the firewall.

The other item I couldn't figure out is the option to have forced HTTPS for the Zarafa webmail login.  I named a virtual host "zarafa" and in the drop down box under Groupware I chose the "zarafa" host for the virtual host but couldn't find a way to actually access that HTTPS site.  To my understanding the virtual host in the web server configures a web site that should be "zarafa.domain.com".  Is that correct?

Installation and Upgrades / LDAP Master user with PAM
« on: September 22, 2010, 02:40:49 am »
I created a new test setup today since a couple weeks ago there were still serious bugs with master/slave that I hope are now fixed.  On the master I enabled PAM and chose bash as the login but 'getent passwd' on the slaves doesn't show the users I created on the master.  The master did work and I can login to a shell with the users.  I didn't need PAM on the master but figured that was the only way to have PAM on the slaves.  Does that setting not get passed down to the slaves?  If not, how can I enable PAM on the slave?  Do I need to manually edit the /etc/ebox/80samba.conf on the slave in order to fix that?

Installation and Upgrades / proxy fails to start
« on: September 07, 2010, 05:39:55 am »
I anxiously awaited this weekend to upgrade my server to Zentyal 2.0 but ran across an error with the proxy that will make me hold off a bit.  I'm guessing it has something to do with an import because I tested 1.5/2.0 on a couple different servers to see if previous problems with the proxy were eliminated and the proxy seemed to function on my test boxes.  I exported the configuration on my 1.4 server and imported it after installing Zentyal Gateway 2.0.1 on top of Ubuntu Server 64 bit.  I've installed all updates available today.  After importing the configuration (which for some reason gave a few errors while saving so I had to keep clicking save til it made it all the way through) everything seems to be functional thus far except for the proxy.  I checked syslog and noticed the following error:

Sep  6 18:27:42 hostname squid[25767]: Bungled squid.conf line 46: acl timeHours_obje4191 time HASH(0x806b998)-HASH(0x806ecf0)

So I decided to comment out line 46 but then received this error:

Sep  6 18:29:16 hostname squid[26513]: Bungled squid.conf line 113: http_access allow obje4191 timeHours_obje4191

After commenting out line 46, 113, and 114 I can now start squid and everything seems to be okay.  As stated before I'm assuming this has something to do with the import as I'm aware a fresh install doesn't have this problem.  If you need further data let me know.  Otherwise, I guess I'll have to decide whether to manually enter all my data into Zentyal 2.0.

Out of the 3 users I setup on my master using Ebox 1.4.7 only one of them on the slave has a nonexistent shell and home directory when typing 'getent passwd'.  I don't want to have to delete the users and add them again since I would lose the home directories and mail boxes.  What is the best way that I can change the login shell and home directory information on the slave machine?  Also if I change the login shell on the master will it take place on the slave?

I'm running ebox-squid-1.5.2 on ebox core 1.5.1 and I have the transparent proxy enabled.  Squid will stop at least 2 times a day and sometimes more.  I can't find any log file that is specific to only squid errors or crashes so if you need more info let me know what you want uploaded.

Installation and Upgrades / Master/Slave 1.5 on 10.04
« on: May 24, 2010, 11:00:46 pm »
I have 2 fresh installs of 10.04 and I'm trying to enable master/slave between them.  For some reason I don't have the Mode option under Users and Groups which I'm not sure if that's typical for the master.  However, on the slave when I tried to enable the module after typing in the master information I get the following error:

I just did a new server install of 10.04 and have been experiencing issues with the transparent proxy not working.  I also then noticed that other devices that were allowed rules to communicate with the outside world weren't either.  As I looked further into it I found that the ebox-firewall isn't successfully loading and explains why those firewall rules aren't working.  Here is the error I'm getting:

Installation and Upgrades / Upgrading to Lucid and Ebox 1.4
« on: January 28, 2010, 05:33:25 am »
To my surprise I made a bad choice by installing Ebox 1.3 on Jaunty assuming it would continue to receive updates.  Now I'm wondering that since I'll first have to upgrade to Karmic before Lucid will Ebox completely break by the time I get to Lucid and Ebox 1.4?  I noticed Lucid packages have not begun to be posted in the PPA so I'm wondering if the best way to get 1.4 is going to be formatting my machine and going back to Hardy.  I know, I shouldn't have done beta software but it has run quite well with only a couple items not working.  If somebody could please advise it would be greatly appreciated!
