hello Javi,

I have tried on my test server, but the problem is still there.

Afther executing your proposed command, the access control lists on the shares are still empty .

However the file smb.conf is ok now , the share definitions are now back in the smb.conf file and the users on the client workstations have access to there files.

So there is still the problem of seeing the access control lists in the eBox administrator screens.

Maybe this extra info helps to solve the problem.
Thans ,
Ian

Hello Javi,

Yes it is in: File sharing -> shares -> access control.
This results that users connected by a windows Xp workstation does not have access to the shared files on the server, the client even does not see the share anymore in the file browser.

As i said problem does not exist in release 1.0, the configuration is correct afther a restore of a configuration file on a new installed server.

eBos is a fantastic application, the only problem is that the developpers must take more care of backup/restore utilities in the application and be sure that here is no problem with upgrading to new releases. This will be result in a real reliable system.

Best regards,
Ian

Hello,

Backup/restore problem wit release 1.2.2

I have restored a configuration backup file ( from an eBox server release 1.2.2 ) on a brand new server from scratch with eBox release 1.2.2 and all the configuration settings are correct restored but the acces controls on the shares are not restored the access control is empty.

In the previous release the restore works correct.

Is there a solution for this problem ?

Thanks ,
Ian

Installation and Upgrades / Ebox V1.2 upgrade
« on: October 18, 2009, 06:39:19 pm »
Hello,

On the eBox dashboard menu > Software management > System updates, ther are many upgrades ready for installation.
When i select all the upgdrades and execute it, ther there is always an error mesage ( Debian stuff ) and the upgrade is not installed.

Is this mayby because there are several upgrades proposed, but not all the modules are activated on my eBox server?
How can i solve this ?

In command mode maybe, in an terminal window with the commands sudo apt-get update or sudo apt-get upgrade ?
The management of the server is always executed from the firefox browser of a workstation in he network, i think that could not caude the problem.

Thans for reactions, included the log file

Installation and Upgrades / Re: ebox as simple PDC
« on: October 06, 2009, 10:41:09 am »
Hello,

The right thing to do, is to replece the map my documents on the Xp client Pc's.

On a client xp pc select the map " My documents " click on it with the rigt mouse botton.
Select " replace " the map , and choose the map on your PDC ( the H: drive of that user who uses the map documents on the client ) and confirm.

Now all your documents are replaced to the PDC file and print server.

In addition you can work with the option " Off line documents " ( most interest for portable pc's ) this option synchronise the document with the server afther working local and later on reconnect to de the server

Greetings
Ian

L.s.

Install some extra stuff on your eBox server like:

- Lxde ( small desktop , only active wen started, so in operarional environment is do not need eny resources of your server ).
- gparted ( tool to partition and fromat hard disks, with dis tool you can prepare a new harddisk for your system ).
- webmin ( tool to manage unix/linux servers, where you can define a permanent mount of a disk on the server )

Best regards?

Hello,

I tried the solution given by J. A. Calvo on a brand new installation of eBox release 1.2, and it solves the problem of losing PDC password length age and history setting ( adding the return into the file SambaLdapUser.pm ).
Afther the file was modified, the setting are saved and stay that way even by a reboot of the server.
Best regards,
Ian

Hello javivázquez,

Thanks for the information.

A last question, how long will release 1.0 be supported ?
In not so lang then i have a serieus problem and must revue my whole concept and start from zero again for my 1.0 prodction site.

I hope thet next year in case of server hardware problems that i can reïnstall 1.0 again from the mirror servers, and use my backups to restore and come back in production.

Best regards,
Ian

Hello ,

Thanks for the information.

eBox is realy a very nice product, but the devloppers must be take care of upwards compatibility.

I have already tried to upgrade on a test machine, by restoring the configuration of an 1.0 server to an new installed 1.2 server.
Several configurations are restored, but the passwords are nor restored, and make a new password gives no permission to the account what was in 1.0.

I have also sean the comment from eBox that upgrading toe 1.2 may fall but it is not clear for me if the are working on it and let us now when it is done.

It is not possble for an system engineer to reconfigger all the definitions ( users computer accounts shares etc ) for an upgrade to the latest release of eBox.

It would be nice to have a solution.
Thanks

Installation and Upgrades / upgrade release 1.0 to 1.2
« on: July 28, 2009, 09:04:53 pm »
Hello,

We have an eBox server release 1.0 in production and like to upgrade to release 1.2

What is the best way to do it ?

The eBox server is a PDC file and printserver, and has also the DNS and apache functionality.
The PDC is the domain controller for 40 Windows Xp workstations.

When we upgrade to 1.2 we like to keep the configuration in tact ( users accounts, user passwords, groupes, shares, printer shares, Xpworkstation accounts and of course the data ).

At this moment we take regulairy a configuration backup with the eBox backup tool, and for the data backup we use Webmin.

The server has Ubuntu 8.04, eBox, Webmin Lxde gnome terminal and firefox on board.

Is there a discription for upgrading the server ?

On the earlier version of eBox , it was possible to upgrade by adapting the sources.list file and execute the command apt-get dist-upgrade, but this does not works on version 1.2 .

Thanks,
Ian
