News and Announcements / Re: Zentyal 4.1 available!
« on: May 18, 2015, 05:09:48 pm »

4.1 has been a game changer for a lot of people, with it removing a lot of functionality and concentrating on areas that are not used by some of us.

Obviously everyone has their own requirements, and Zentyal with a bit of hacking currently covers what we need. However it would it would be great to see an up to date roadmap so we could have some idea of the direction Zentyal is going in so we can make plans if need be.

I am gutted.

I have just moved job and my first task was to recommend Zentyal to replace their existing Windows network. It now looks like it is losing the ability to be an all-in-one Windows Server replacement.

Further info.

On my Mac I have a VirualBox with Windows 7 - this can ping the Zentyal server using the name, but the host Mac cannot.

We have one Zentyal 4 server. The server can ping itself using the full local domain serv1.company.local , Windows clients can ping it using this address, however Mac clients cannot ping that url. DNS is set to transparent DNS cache. The Macs are set to use the server as their only DNS server and can ping outside URLs ok.

The Macs just join the network share, but this should not affect the server replying to DNS queries.

What am I missing?

Ah that makes sense!

Many thanks

This page says that Apache is still an option

https://wiki.zentyal.org/wiki/Apache_web_server

However, my version does not appear to have Apache installed. It does appear to have Nginx installed but it is not running.

1) What is the default web server Zentyal uses?

2) What is the best/recommended/approved way to host a local website?

one more thing, if the user browses to \\ourserver.DOMAIN.LOCAL\profiles\emma.V2\they can write a file to that folder or any subfolder.

I forgot to mention that the system auto maps a user drive which is writable by the logged in user.

I am running a new install Zentyal 4.0.6. This is my first Zentyal server and I am very impressed. I have run in to one issue - roaming profiles and I cannot find a solution in the forum.

When I add a bind a user to the server and reboot and login the server creates a profile folder e.g

:/home/samba/profiles# ls -la

drwxrwx---+ 14 emma          domain users  4096 Mar  2 14:08 emma.V2

When they log out I see an error 'Your roaming user profile was not completely synchronised....'

If I look on the Windows 7 box Event Viewer I see

----

Windows cannot copy file \\?\C:\users\emma.DOMAIN\NTUSER.DAT to location \\oursrv.DOMAIN.LOCAL$NOCSC$\profiles\emma.V2\NTUSER.DAT. This error may be caused by network problems or insufficient security rights.

DETAIL - Access is denied.

----

The drive hosting /home has plenty of free space.

Any ideas?
