Installation and Upgrades / Joining a Windows 7 client to Zentyal-Only Domain Controler
« on: October 06, 2011, 10:59:22 pm »
I'm not able to join my Windows 7 client to the Zentyal domain I have created. I have my DNS set to use the zentyal server, I can ping the server and the domain name used from the client, and I even get the credentials screen when I enter the domain name in the "change" window on the client, but when I click "OK" after entering my username and password (yes I have checked the administrator rights boxes on the user account), I get the following message: "The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted"
I found an article about changes some registry settings, which I did and rebooted, but the error message is the same.
I've been managing Windows domains for many years so I have some idea how it should work, and the instructions make it sound very easy with Zentyal as well, but even after several re-installs I'm still unable to join.
Both client and server are on the same private subnet and are plugged into the same "dumb" hub, and I am able to access the default share for the user on the server and create/delete files and folders on it.
Thanks for any help,
David
STATUS= Resolved. Even though I followed the instructions to manually add the registry DWORD values, what actually worked was running the registry patch 1.4 available here: http://trac.zentyal.org/wiki/Documentation/Community/HowTo/Windows7Support
