Installation and Upgrades / Asterisk Music on Hold working?
« on: November 02, 2010, 07:09:31 pm »
Just wondering if anyone has music on hold working on Zentyal 2.0.  I had it working on a server running 1.4, but have not yet been successful getting it running on Zentyal 2.0.

I noticed the instructions for this are now missing from the documentation, and wondering if this is because it is known to be not working?  (will save me further time trying to get it working if I know.)

p.s. Other than that  and a few other minor config issues yet to resolve, my install of Internet Gateway and Asterisk server on same machine for a Honduras orphanage is working well.

Installation and Upgrades / Re: DNS Cache errors Zentyal 2.0.5

Thanks for the reply.  I checked and did have the latest package.  After reducing the cache buffer to minimum and making a few other minor modifications including adding additional DNS servers to the Network/DNS list the problem *mostly* disappeared.  I am not sure yet what made it better or the original cause.  Perhaps the problem is aggravated by the poor satellite connection and its inherent lag and dropped packets.

Installation and Upgrades / DNS Cache errors Zentyal 2.0.5
« on: October 22, 2010, 08:06:41 pm »
I am having intermittent DNS cache errors in Zentyal 2.0.5.  This is a live machine, so I'm baning my head  ???

Symptoms

Blocked pages will sometimes point to the Zentyal "IT works!" page rather than to the page indicating it is blocked.
Non-blocked pages will sometimes hang or give an unreachable message.
This usually happens after accessing the same page several times and the error goes away after some time.
Error also goes away for the site when I add it to the Proxy exception list which seems to indicate it is a proxy cache problem.

Setup
Version 2.0.5
Gateway as transparent proxy
Network/DNS pointing to 172.0.0.1, then to external DNS servers
DHCP setup: Primary DNS = local Zentyal
 Secondary DNS = external DNS

DNS settings
Domains: local.mydomain.org dynamic
mydomain.org points to 127.0.0.1 with no named machines or name servers

Any suggestions???? or need for further information???

Thought I'd share my minimum configuration notes for Grandstream telephone products.  :D :D

Thanks for the suggestion, Future!

That did help on another 2.0.1 install.  Unfortunately with the 64 bit install, I ended up wiping it and moving to 32 bit.  I am in a time crunch and had a persistent LXDE system crashing situation so had to move on for now.  Not sure if it is compatibility with hardware or a 64 bit bug at this point.

What was happening was LXDE session would kick me out, then I could not restart it as it was already running and I did not know the commands for rejoining the running LXDE session.  I could not make it through  the upgrade process inside the LXDE session before it kicked me out.

Anyway... I moved back to the 32 bit for now because of time constraints.

Zentyal 2.0.1    64bit
when saving changes I get the error
"id serv6434 dies not exist"

and I am unable to continue with making changes

Any thoughts?

Installation and Upgrades / DNS Resolve errors - Zentyal 2.0 Gateway
« on: October 13, 2010, 11:20:24 am »
Trouble setting up DNS on Zentyal 2.0.1-3.  In reading other posts, it seems I am not alone.
Can someone(s) PLEASE post a quick personal config example for the rest of us?  ;D
(the few DNS setup examples I find are older, not specific to my settings or fail to work in my case)

My specifics:
  • WAN gets DHCP assignment
  • Internal static with DHCP server

To get consistent DNS resolution from Internal clients to Internet, I needed to take the following measures: (I tried many options but could not get local DNS cache or other DNS features/settings to work consistently.)

  • Network/DNS: change from self to external router IP
  • DHCP: change default gateway, primary domain server and search domain to be NONE

Anyone successfully get local DNS working with WAN getting DHCP address?
Will this resolve itself if I change to static WAN IP address?

Your internal and external interfaces are on the same subnet which is not allowed.
You might want to change your internal to 10.10.11.x.

Futuretech, please do mark as solved  - & congrats on getting it solved
James, Thanks for the great advice to futuretech

Could do the following:

Objects "Add New"
create names to the separate subnets like "Students" and "Administration"

Firewall - Packet Filter   "Filtering rules for internal networks"
create new rule DENY for "Source Object" "Students" to destination "Destination object" "Administration" for Service "Asterisk" Inverse (checked Inverse match)

this will allow phones to work... or could use ... for Service "any" (not inverse checked)

Remember that priority in Firewall rules will affect results.

I have not yet connected to a POTS, and and the immediate application I am testing doesn't need me to.  I do plan on buying an ATA and connecting a few old phones to eBox... but internal network not external line.

Any suggestions for ATA device? I am looking at the Cisco PAP2T, but have conflicting reports whether this works well with generic asterisk....

Correction to my above list of what I needed to do to get Asterisk working:
I did not need to setup Dynamic DNS.... disabled it to test and softphones still connect and work.

Thanks, I did get it working last night.  For the benefit of other newbies, here are the steps I took and a bit about my config:

Setup
eBox 1.49 on Ubuntu server 8.04 32bit -- test server installed bare metal on a HP ProLiant DL385 with dual NIC, dual processor and 8 gig RAM
Setup as a Gateway using transparent proxy.  I am working on getting phones and file sharing working as well as possible other functionality.  I am curious how much this server can handle  ::)

Things I did to make softphones work
1. apt-get update & apt-get upgrade
2. Installed a different soft phone on my LinuxMint LXDE test machines (first tried QuteCom, then Ekiga).  I don't think this was the problem as they both work now, though I have not ruled out with a fresh install (possible packages missing in the QuteCom?)
3. Drop the ".com" for the SIP domain setup in QuteCom... cannot connect when included
My Domain is "HondurasTest.com" so I needed to put in "HondurasTest"
When I disconnect then modify the account, It puts the ".com" back on,and I need to remove it again.
4. Properly setup DNS with a Dynamic DNS setup as well Under the DHCP server settings.
5. For my Windows 7 VPN client to connect to Asterisk, I needed to add the setting to direct it to the server IP address: In X-lite set Domain Proxy to "Register with the domain and receive incoming calls" also add proxy server IP address (eBox LAN IP address).  My win7 laptop is on the WAN side of my ebox.

There is a little more sound lag than I expected, but it may well be due to my using slow computers with the softphones.  I will soon have some Polycom phones on order to test out.

I am looking to setup an internal only phone system for an Organization in Central America.

Can I setup the Asterisk module to work without an external SIP provider?

If so, any suggestions on the settings that would work?

Any news whether the issues discussed here have been resolved?
I am currently running a test system, but plan to reinstall 1.5 in x64.
I have a dual CPU 2.8GHz with 8Gig ram and hope to use it as Gateway with asterisk.
