If I force a restart of samba with "sudo /etc/init.d/zentyal samba restart".  I am able to connect again.  So the problem is definitely related to or in samba.  Still don't know why I don't see any errors in samba.log.

Installation and Upgrades / OpenChange Sporadic

I installed Zentyal 3.4 yesterday.  Everything seemed to go ok.  I was able to add my workstations to the domain.  I was also able to connect outlook to openchange.  I let it run for 24 hours and found no errors.  So today I put it into production. (This is in my home.)  I added my wife's computer to the domain without an issue and got her outlook attached to openchange.  Now we are having issues with openchange.  It doesn't want to stay connected.  Sometimes it doesn't even connect at all.  Other times it connects for 5 - 15 minutes and then outlook claims it cannot connect.  I check the openchange web and it is working fine.  I can see all mail in there and I get no issues.  I started looking in Zentyal.log, samba.log, syslog and any other file I can find under /var/log.  I cannot find any obvious errors.  About 5 minutes ago I got a message on the web administrator saying that samba had a crash file in the /var/crash folder.  It asked if it could send it out?  I told it yes.  When I went and looked in that folder, the only thing there was a hidden file named ".lock".

My wife and I are using Windows 8 with Office 2013.  Both computers were installed from scratch last week.  The zentyal server has quite a few modules installed. (see attached pic)  The zentyal server is on a Dell PowerEdge 2950 with 16Gb of RAM.  So I don't think memory is an issue.  The system drive is a RAID 1, 63 Gb, 10K drive with each partition having 75% or more of free space, so I don't think hard drive space is the issue.  I just installed and turned on monitoring to try and find what is wrong.

Anyone got any idea where I can look to narrow this down the cause of this?

I am now at home.  This was the command I used.

ldbdel -H /path/to/file/sam.ldb "DC=computer,DC=domain.com,CN=MicrosoftDNS,DC=DomainDnsZones,DC=domain,DC=com"

Yea, from the links you sent, it looks like you might have to have Samba installed on the other drive before you even bring up Openchange?  Dunno.

I had a DNS issue too.  It worked fine the very first time I tried to find my computer from the server.  I then joined my computer to the domain.  Dynamic DNS quit working correctly after that.  I found a post on the internet (or maybe here) where someone said to delete the entry for your computer from the DNS database.  I did a "sudo find..." and it found two DNS databases.  I ran the command against both and sure enough an entry was in one of them.  I then rebooted my local pc and everything went back to working correctly.

I cannot remember the exact command.  I have it on my desktop at home and I am at work.

Has anyone figured out how to do this yet?  If so, can you point me to where I can find the documentation about it?

peterpugh, thanks for your advice.  I found another posting of yours and I basically adopted your strategy.

Well, don't worry about the issue now.  I re-installed Zentyal 3.4.

I have installed Zentyal 3.3 several times.  I noticed that regardless of what my server name is, my "Root DN" is always "cn=zentyal,dc=mydomain,dc=com".  Is that correct?  I would expect it to be "cn=host,dc=mydomain,dc=com".

Thanks

OK.

Just FYI, I used an LDAP browser and was able to browse port 389 without an issue.  I tried to browse port 390 and when I tested the connection, it worked.   When I tried to actually browse the information, it locked up the LDAP browser.  This happened multiple times.  There was a rule denying LDAP from my internal network.  I changed it to ALLOW.
This did not fix anything.

OK, I am off to bed.

Again, thanks very much.
