Title: Zentyal management web interface won't start after reboot
Post by: kaja on August 15, 2011, 10:54:09 pm
I've installed all modules and after reboot I'm not able to connect to web management.
When I run /etc/init.d/zentyal apache start, the problem is fixed.

Same issue here, I have been reinstalling zentyal core with apt-get, but will try restarting apache.

What does /var/log/ebox/ebox.log say about this?

Also have a look at this thread: http://forum.zentyal.org/index.php/topic,7082.msg28417.html

Is this reproducible all the times? I mean, if you execute /etc/init.d/zentyal apache restart it works and when rebooting the machine it fails again? or is it a random behavior?
Title: Re: Zentyal management web interface won't start after reboot
Post by: sinc on August 22, 2011, 09:12:41 pm
The problem seems to occur at each reboot in my setup, which is a fresh install. Also, in response to robb, it was my understanding that 2.2 had ebox references removed which means /var/log/ebox/ebox.log is now /var/log/zentyal/zentyal.log

There doesn't appear to be any relevant errors in zentyal.log

Hello,

I had the same experience few hours ago with an up-to-date zentyal 2.1.

rebooted than Zentyal was missing.

Code: [Select]
sudo /etc/init.d/zentyal startstarted Zentyal, mail filter failed along with the mail module and still no admin interface.

Code: [Select]
sudo dpkg-reconfigure zentyalstill nothing  - not even an error !! :(

Code: [Select]
sudo /etc/init.d/zentyal apache restart... yay!  Zentyal admin interface is back  ;D

Everything was back to what it was (after restarting the mail service).

I have installed two 2.2 rc1 machines and both have this annoying bug.
Another bug is after the setup, the network don't start because in the gateway page there are two identical default gateway.
When i remove one of two, the network start normally.

Post by: J. A. Calvo on August 25, 2011, 06:40:11 pm
The two gateways is a different already reported issue, but regarding the won't start problem, could you try upgrading to the last packages (2.2-rc2) to see if it still happens?

yep, it's the still same .... but the boot takes little bit longer

and the internal network interface is unconfigured (in initial setup set as static). This happend after installing all modules and after reboot.

Same problem with rc2 after fresh install, also, I noticed the Dashboard says there is 1 system update available after I updated from web interface, but none of the Software Management lists in the web interface show anything. I had to do it from the command line.

Yes same here.
restarting everything using
service zentyal start didn't help.
Only sudo /etc/init.d/zentyal apache restart did the trick
I can't believe that this bug hasn't been fixed yet....

yep, still an issue here too with RC2

For those of you who are reproducing the issue:

Can you please review (or attach) your /var/log/zentyal/zentyal.log in order to find the problem during boot?

I'm trying to reproduce this but it always works for me  :-[

Thank you for your reports

Happens to me all the time.
Attaching log but I can't find anything in it.
One more thing - upon restart the file sharing does not work too.
After I manually start the dashboard I have to click start from the dashboard to get the file sharing service to work.

Hello,

testing 2.2

also the same "no access" admin web interface.
After a reboot again no access
I have to stop apache and firewall

Code: [Select]
root@zentyal-vm:~# /etc/init.d/zentyal apache stop
 * Stopping Zentyal module: apache                                             [ OK ]
root@zentyal-vm:~# /etc/init.d/zentyal firewall stop
 * Stopping Zentyal module: firewall                                     [ OK ]
root@zentyal-vm:~# /etc/init.d/zentyal apache start
 * Restarting Zentyal module: apache                                     [ OK ]
root@zentyal-vm:~# /etc/init.d/zentyal firewall start
 * Restarting Zentyal module: firewall                                         [ OK ]
root@zentyal-vm:~#

Lo and behold! The web interface is reachable

by the way:
xorg uses 50-80 %CPU (use top)  => I have to kill it and work remote
what is with DNS? In the web interface I can't find settings for static DNS names to IP's ?

Okay I worked with an old SME-Server - and I go back :-(

I can't believe that this bug hasn't been fixed yet....

If this hasn't been fixed yet it's just because we can't reproduce it. It's difficult to fix something that works for us...

Could you all who are reproducing it tell us the list of modules you have installed / enabled ? Maybe with that information we will be more lucky reproducing it...

Thanks in advance!

This is 100% reproducible on all my fresh installs. My setup is a VMWare instance with two NICs, all I did was install from 2.2-rc2 ISO with all packages but mail related ones and it occurs on reboot. I also tried recreating the problem on another machine with a different VMWare install and created a new VMWare instance from scratch.

Yes
I have install and running on Core version 2.1.27.
(by the way I have killed x11-commen and lxdm because a very high load >50 %CPU
and I don't need it.)

Didn't have this problem in RC1 got it in RC2, nice....
Title: Re: Zentyal management web interface won't start after reboot
Post by: itamar on August 27, 2011, 07:57:06 am
I did a fresh install and selected the regular office configuration.
after setup finished I made some users and tested some shares and rebooted.
Then I encountered th problem.
BTW I'm running on virtual box but I did test the 2.0 the same way and didn't have any problem.

How do I list the list the services to copy here?

What else do you need to pinpoint the problem?
Would access via TeamViewer help.
I can set it up and send credentials via email.

Hi again,

The fix is already published, you just need to upgrade to the last version of the zentyal-users package (2.1.10).

Please confirm that this is definitely fixed with that.

Thanks!

Hi itamar,

go to the first Admin screen from zentyal (I belive called "Dashboard)
there you will find an overview of all installed modules and their status.
=> copy and past

I don't think this bug is talking about long boot time.

It's not, but after update network interface either with static or dhcp won't start. Everytime I need to do networking restart and zentyal apache start. I'm using virtual box for testing.

The new fix, has failed once, and succeeded once.  One of my test VM's are fine, the other will not boot, just sits at the boot splash screen with the progress bar never ending.

Sorry for posting here instead of a new thread, because as some of you said, this seems a different problem.

To the ones with a current boot fail: Could you try to disable the Mail module if you have it enabled and confirm us if that fixes the problem? If you don't have the Mail module installed, please tell us your list of enabled modules. Thanks! With your collaboration we'll fix this asap ;)

Ok, we think this should be definitely fixed now, the ones experiencing the problem just need to upgrade to the new versions of the zentyal-core and zentyal-users packages.

Let us know if it finally works! Thanks!

If 2.0 then have a look in /etc/init.d/ebox

Hi

Try to 'install' again the package 'zentyal'

$ apt-get install zentyal

If you installed from the DVD, I don't know why, you have to install again to setup mysql passwords and stuff.

I just got the same problem in Zentyal 5. After server reboot Zentyal management web interface is not working anymore. Sogo works. It seems that web managament interface uses nginx while sogo uses Apache.

/var/log/nginx/error.log:

Edit:
Solved! I had to reinstall libpam-systemd... I've no idea how this could happened. I know that Ubuntu updates are always dangerous but this time it stopped working without updating anything. It looks bad for the future.
