Installation and Upgrades / Ubuntu as Zentyal Client
« on: July 25, 2011, 03:27:35 pm »
Dear All,

I am planning to completely switch over to opensource OS plateform. For that our server is working on Zentyal (Firewall, file and proxy). Few of the users are working on Windows and rest all are having Ubuntu 10.04 and higher...

Now I am in process of implementing Domain, so that all the users should authenticate through Zentyal, while login and for all other services. Surprisingly W$ pc are working perfectly with zentyal domain (even roaming profile also), but I m confuse what to do with Ubuntu PCs. I have tried "Zentyal Desktop", but it cause very slow authentication, no roaming, how to access to user folder etc. ultimately user  >:(

Is there any effective solution for this, so that I can force even W& users to move to Ubuntu  ....

Installation and Upgrades / configuration backup
« on: June 21, 2011, 06:34:33 am »
I am trying to backup the configuration through
core -> system -> import/export configuration  here I found the following remark

"Those modules which have not been enabled for first time in the Module Status section will be ignored in both backup and restore operations."

if it is so, it is very problematic, I have configured all the modules later on, and most of the administrator would be doing so ..... this should be cleaned ...

Installation and Upgrades / HTTPS proxy in non-transperent mode
« on: June 14, 2011, 07:46:14 am »
I am tired of searching, but could not find the right solution.

I want to filter https urls in non-transperent mode, so that few of the users can access few of the secure (https) sites only.
(I don't want to cache, but should filter ...)
Currently proxy and content filtering is working fine for non-secure sites, but our user are making fools by, bypassing the proxy secure sites alternatives.

Any help ...

Installation and Upgrades / How to add a slave to master server ?
« on: March 28, 2011, 10:22:30 am »
Dear All,

I am using a Zentyal server (2.0.16) with all the modules activated including asterisk, mail, samba etc. the server is working perfectly and mainly used as a gateway. (using squid proxy, though other modules are activated but not in use)
As I don't like have extra load of file server on the same m/c, I like to add the another server as file server which authenticate users with main server (gateway).

I have gone through document, which says that master Zentyal should only install userandgroup module, no other module like samba, mail, asterisk should be installed.

How should I move further to add a file server.

Dear All,

I do have the Zentyal 2.0.16 running server, I did get the configuration backup, download it and tried to get it restore on the another experiment server (so that I can do experiment before implementing on the production server).

core -> system -> Import/export configuration -> Backup the Current State / Restore Backup from File

When I tried to restore the configuration backup on experiment server, it gives me the error as follows :

"Could not extract the requested backupfile : date description type"

Can anybody help me how can I restore the configuration backup.

Installation and Upgrades / how to restrict (proxy) secure sites
« on: February 02, 2011, 12:06:08 pm »
Dear All,
I am using Zentyal 2.0.11, non transparent proxy, I have configured the "filter profile" as follows:  with the 'file extension' and 'MIME types' as default profile configuration, where for content filtering I am using 'content Block not listed domains and URLs'.  I have listed few of the sites which are allowed to be viewed.
I don't want gmail to be accessed by user, thus is not listed in the 'Domains and URL rules'.
Recently I found that the when user try to "www.google.com" or "www.gmail.com", Zentyal server does not allow to access, but few users are trying https://www.google.com  which server is not filtering and allow to access. (Even I mentioned the url google.com with "always deny", does not solve the problem)

Please help me how to restrict the users to filter the secure sites also. (I do not like to restrict the banking secure sites)

any help

« on: January 20, 2011, 07:49:00 am »
Dear all,

I am using Zentyal 2.0.11 (have not upgraded to 2.0.15).
Today morning suddenly I found that my Thunderbird on client m/c is not working. After trying to configure i could not get it resolved.

Thus I decided to restore the old configuration file
system -> import/export configuration -> restore the file backedup on 14th jan2011

But I am getting the following error :

Recursive restore dependency found.

Installation and Upgrades / network card sleep
« on: January 01, 2011, 08:16:40 am »
Dear All,

I am facing a very typical problem. I have installed Zentyal 2.0.11 on a server for experimental purpose with two lan interface (external and internal).
Every morning when I try to access the server from my PC (in the LAN) I found that internal interface of the server is not responding. When I physical check the server everything was fine, I did ping the PC from server, which also did perfectly (which probably awake the LAN) and then I could access the server from PC. I have to do this every morning.

Can any body help me how can I restrict the Internal LAN card to go sleep when there is no activity on the card and server.

Installation and Upgrades / how to backup - Zentyal 2.0.11
« on: December 31, 2010, 08:48:54 am »
Can anybody help me step by step, how to configure remote incrimental backup (within LAN).

I have gone through the documents but still confused

1. Which method is appropriate for incremental backup - ftp / rsync / scp ? (I think rsync)
2. What os is required at backup server, what packages are need to install their ?
3. How to generate a symmatric keys .. which is requires for backup configuration ? For the what commands to be run at server and backup server ?
4. Why "GPG keys" are always disabled ?
5. If main server is completely down, how we can extract data from backup server ??
