I installed Zentyal on a HP Microserver Gen8, and afer install it won't boot from the first disk (HP calls it 'C:', how funny).

I tried several times, and also booted with rescue disk, the install seems to be okay it just doesnt' boot.

Then I installed Ubuntu 14.04 AMD64 and it booted right away.

So, apparentley there is some difference between de Zentyal 4.0 bootloader and the one from Ubuntu.

For some reason the webserver needed to read a specific samba share.

I tried force group www-data in samba.conf, and force user too, didn't work.

Anytime a regular user created a file, it had
username __USERS__
as owner....

The following:

1. rename www-data to www-data2 in /etc/passwd and /etc/group
2. added a new samba user through the webinterface called 'www-data' and added to the share
3. chown where needed.

Of course, had to enable PAM first in LDAP settings.

wbinfo -u listed www-data
id www-data worked

now the webserver can read the share!

Is there any reason not to do it this way, are there securiy concerns, etc?

Cheers!

1. Download installer from www.zentyal.com/download, this is version 2.0-3, 32 bits.

2. On the Ubuntu Desktop (10.10) go to System->Administration->Startup_Disk_Creator

3. Take the stick and boot the server from the stick

4. Syslinux 4.01 debian-20100714 {snip}
Unkown keyword in configuration file: GFXBOOT
boot:

5. press tab to list boot options. I used 'auto' to install.

Please see http://www.suares.an/index.php?topic=zentyal-ears for the solution.

Dear people,

When I installed the OLD ebox/zentyal on Ubuntu 8.04, there where many issues with slowness.
Then I moved to the new Zentyal, on 10.04, and it worked all fine for a while. Since some time the slowness is back.

The symptoms are:
- both harddisk leds burn constantly
- everything is slow, loggin in trough the console as well as opening a folder through samba
- there's a very high io/wait when looking at top.
- when looking at iostat there is almost NO disk traffic

This is load picture of a day. there are 4 cpu's only 2 shown.

[SOLVED] Please see http://www.suares.an/index.php?topic=zentyal-ears for the solution.

Some people experienced very slow install, even op to the point that the install (seemed to) halt. I had an install crawl to a halt at 67% and then spend 10 hours to get to 75%. This was a clean install from the 1.4 CD.
