Hi guys,
Two good news: Zentyal 3.0 is cooking already, and your help is needed to make the best release ever! As you know, the single most important change in Zentyal 3.0 is the upgrade from Ubuntu Server 10.04 LTS (Lucid) to Ubuntu Server 12.04 LTS (Precise) and to make this change as smooth as possible, we need your help.
What can you do? Well, we've released the first Zentyal alpha packages (not recommended for production environments) that need testing. Check this link for further information and how to test the packages on already installed Ubuntu Server 12.04:
http://trac.zentyal.org/wiki/Document/Announcement/2.3
We hope to offer you a Zentyal installer soon, but in the meanwhile, if you want to help in the beta testing you can get a current Ubuntu Server 12.04 installer at:
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-server/daily/current/
Furthermore, we're also trying to push these packages to the official Ubuntu universe repository to replace the current Zentyal 2.0 packages.
Please let us know if encounter any problems or need any additional instructions. Your feedback is much appreciated!

Just AWESOME!... /me is starting the download... :)
Can you post the pubkey for this repository?
/edit: sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys 10E239FF
^^ to add the pubkey for the repository.

I have the core running with networking logs dhcp firewall events
Had problems in restarting the server on networking changes with DNS
/etc/init.d/networking restart
* Running /etc/init.d/networking restart is deprecated because it may not enable again some interfaces

Also the /etc/init.d/zentyal/ is empty
everything that is there seems ok

Thanks robb & stuart for your feedback!
Just to let everybody know there are new packages available for testing: trafficshaping, l7-protocols, bwmonitor, antivirus, jabber, monitor, webserver and ftp
We are waiting for bug reports about them ;)
-
Today we have also published captiveportal and software!
-
ah finaly software' was the one i was waiting for, should be up an running after the house cleaning and groceries shoping... this old spare machine should go back online with a new set op brains and a verry new personallity:P
-
Quite smooth installing. Kudos for that.
Minor thing: the zentyal cloud dyndns service is linked in Networking, but doesn't seem to work (yet)
-
Three more packages available: pptp, radius and asterisk!
-
More packages available: mail, ids, ebackup and ipsec!
-
great work!. I'll fire up my VM again and see what they bring.. :)
-
Four more packages: mailfilter, webmail, usercorner and virt :) We're almost there!

Hello,
I have installed the new release 2.3 with success
How to:
- Install ubuntu server 12.04
- Install Lxde lightweigthX11 desktop environment
- Adapted sources.list with the new Zentyal repository
- installed the key of the repository
- Install zentyal
No problems during installation.
First impression is very good, the Zentyal administrator GUI works faster.
Structure looks good, the file and print server map structure is the same as in release 2.2 what is a good begin to do the upgrade from the previous release 2.2.
Not possible to select other languages, but i suppose that that will be o.k. later on.
Question:
How can i prevent that Lxde is started at boot time, i prefare to start lxde with the command startx and at logout to return to the command mode. I have tried to adapt the files /etc/boot/grub.cfg and /etc/boot/grub but no success.
Thanks to the Zentyal team te have already done a fine job on the fantastic Zentyal server.
Best regards,
Ian

ian im sorry but due to a hardware problem i cant login to my server to check...
but from the top of my head, grub is only for loading the OS (kernel) and bootscreen options,
and you should take a look into the init.d scripts to disable the auto-loading of lxdm
due to the high frequency of questions related to this, might it be an idea to load a boot menu (ncurses) rahter than the gui...
for example,
[welcome to zentyal]
some info here: ip = a.b.c.d ip6: ff:cc:dd:1:2:: hostname = zentyal.domain.lan other info =
option: boot deskop (startx)
option: open command line (cli)
option: shutdown .... (obvious)
i know that for example freenas does it like this and its pretty easy to do, and not verry intrusive...
it would probaly satisfy those who dont whant to load the gui, without bothering those who do, to mutch
(as you could probably add a timer option if you do want to load it...)
-
This could work. But I'd prefer to have a predefined option would autoload after x seconds....
-
Is it not something like sudo update-rc.d gdm disable 2 3 4 5
I did the same ages ago and my memory was that it wasn't init.d
http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/prevent-xorg-from-starting-in-linux/
might help
-
@ rob, i would love to try this asap...
and maybe even propose it as an option (or even default?) in zentyal,
if you use some kind of a menu.cfg file (witch isn't uncommon),
you could probably use a line like timeout=n seconds and a default=gui (or cli..).
in my case i would prefere it that if/when i log out of lxde (or type 'exit' in the cli) ..
that i would return to this menu... as it would be prety simular behavior as leaving your current server in the login-screen.

Hello,
Thanks for the response.
None of the sugested solutions gives a result to preven to start the desktop at boot.
It is an problem in the new release 12.04, as installed ( LXDE or Gnome core or KDE base ) on a previous release 10.04 the desktop does not start at boot only by the command startx and return to the command mode by logoff.
I have tried the suggestions but it does not work, since Grub2 there is a difference for the startup menu, remove GDM from /etc/init.d works in release 8.04 not in 12.04 also adapt the files grub çin etc/default and /ect/boot/grub.conf gives no results even the sugestion from DogManCat does not works.
I need the desktop only for mantenace on the server itself ( archive of data copy data from the server to external disk etc. it goos faster than copy over the network.
In operational moede there is no need for the desktop, there is no screen keyboard or mouse connected toe the server in operational mode so no desktop started means less resources needed the resources could than be used for other applications on the server.
Thanks and best regards,
Ian
