Installation and Upgrades / "Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/" causes start up failure

Hi all

I've had an issue over the past 2 weeks where servers would not start completely due to a Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/za.ubuntu...." error message.

This seems to be something new which can be solved by deleting the contents of /var/lib/apt/lists and running an apt-get update.

However, since the server doesn't boot properly, this needs to be done manually on the network.

I'm wondering how to resolve this? The issue has recurred twice on 2 servers.

Is the loading of these lists mandatory for boot? Should I refresh these lists daily to prevent corruption?

Hi all

I an planning to have 1 server per branch of a company which has a few roaming users. Is it possible to sync users across both sites?

From what I have seen this was possible in Zentyal 2 but not 3?

Hi all

I have a client who has a new PC with Outlook 2013 installed on it. For some reason (and it is most probably Outlook at fault), they do not receive new mail and on occasion receive duplicate mails.

There have been various reports around the current state of IMAP support in Outlook 2013. There seems to be a huge issue with it.

I was wondering if anyone has come across this issue, and how they fixed it (besides using another mail client)?

Thanks Christian. I appreciate the in depth advice.

I've added a user group 'Proxy Web Users' and added a user to it. On the 'access rules' screen, should I select the 'source' as a 'user group' which is 'proxy web users'.

From what I can understand (and read in other posts), I need to configure the rule where the decision should be something that includes 'authorise'.

I have the 'allow all', 'deny all', and 'apply filter profile'. I'm thinking that there is an option missing to do with 'authorise'.

Is there a prerequisite step required to trigger the option?

I currently have the same issue, even with Zentyal setup as a WINS server.

To confirm, are you able to open shares with the IP address, as opposed to the NETBIOS host name?

I've set up 5 other production firewalls using Zentyal and the results have been good. As this client is a non-profit, I'm trying to save them the costs of having an enterprise license.

My question is more around how do I configure Zentyal to display the prompt when auth is required?

If I enable the explicit proxy in my browser, I do not get a prompt for authentication.

Installation and Upgrades / Zentyal server as a client connecting to a IPSEC/L2TP VPN service

Good day

I'm wanting to find out if its possible to configure Zentyal as a client to connect to an IPSEC/L2TP VPN service.

From what I can assess, the IPSEC module on the server is to provide a VPN server using the IPSEC/L2TP technology, which wil lallow client sot connect to it, but not let it act as a client.

Installation and Upgrades / Proxy authentication by means of a pop up prompt for a username and password

Hi all

I've set up a server for a client and I'm trying to get the standard pop up to auth against the proxy when a user browses the web.

I've tried captive portal which is not a good fit since it interferes with mail.

Note that Zentyal is not acting as a domain controller (DC), and the PCs do not auth against the Zentyal server when users log in.

Is there a way to obtain the desired outcome without having to make the Zentyal server a DC?

Installation and Upgrades / Enabling proxy (both transparent and explicit) results in no web access

Good day

I've set up a new server for a client and I've setup the proxy functionality.

All web browsing through the server works until I either enable the transparent proxy, or enter the proxy details into the browser settings.

It seems that the DNS is resolved (Firefox states it's waiting for the page) but the page times out with a DNS server timeout, or read error.

I have a rule on the firewall to allow all traffic through the firewall to obtain the required internet access.

Please let me know if you need any config info.

Installation and Upgrades / Unable to download VPN client bundle

Hi all

I've set up Zentyal 3.3 for a client and I'm trying to get the VPN up and running.

I've set up the VPN server and enabled it. When trying to download the client bundle, the website gives me a status message of 'Done' but I do not get a file to download. I've tried both Firefox and Chrome.

Tailing the relevant logs (syslog, dmesg, zentyal.log, software.log, error.log) does not show anything amiss.

Does anyone have some advice?

Installation and Upgrades / Issues with fetchmail not starting

Hi all

I had some issues today whereby fetchmail did not start from the dashboard. I could not find out why, thus I had to manually get it to run in daemon mode pointing to the fetchmail config file.

However I'd like to revert to the default config to get it working correctly so that I can see it running on the dashboard.

How do I revert to the default fetchmail config?
