Hello,

Afther installation of zentyal release 5.0 from the iso installation cd the network connection is broken and can not be activated by adapting the file: /etc/network/interfaces or via the zentyal gui.
Install zentyal 5.0 in command mode has the same problem.

Best regards,
Ian

Yes, for mee too!
Some of maintenance will tell you whether the problem will be fixed and when to know whether to use 4.2 or another server solution?

In 5th version expected something more.
Services such as Captive Portal, FTP server and a WEB server is simply a "must Have" server for small business. Zentyal is starting to seriously lose out to its competitors in functionality and stability.

Installing Zentyal 5 disappointed. After reboot the web interface is not available until you enter the password (Webmin it is implemented without problems). FTP server and the WEB server is unfortunately not included in the new version ! New serious bags.
While competitors are developing Zentyal degraded.

Hello,

CUPS or printer sharing is missing in 5.0, is there any change that it will be adapted later on ?

Best regards,
Ian

Well, as an AD replacement they are still the best, that's how I want to use it, only for this.

From http://www.zentyal.org/2016/10/zentyal-5-0-roadmap-published/   :
Due to the issues found recently in the OpenChange (that offers native synchronization with MS Outlook clients via MAPI protocol), this functionality has been dropped until the issues have been fixed and the module has been stabilized. For the time being, Zentyal can be deployed as a IMAP-POP3 mail server.

--->  Due to the issues? Sorry, what  the problems?
until the issues have been fixed  ---> sorry, how soon?

Jabber is old, we're moving to rocket chat next month, much much better, and there is an LDAP connector. Wich bring my question: I can't connect to LDAP with zentyal, it seems there is no config for that, how come?

I do not need a lot of a lot better. I do not need a super functional. I need a regular ejabber for messages between employees through Pidgin. Well, will have to adjust the hands.
(Connecting to LDAP, as I remember, on the 389 port, the admin password. Like everything is as usual.)

Well, that's the thing, it doesn't work. If I check an LDAP explorer, it works with an anonymous connection, the test is OK, but if I put the Administrator login and password, it says wrong credential (and I'm sure they are correct).
Title: Re: Zentyal 5.0 available!
Post by: Sand_man on December 26, 2016, 01:16:06 pm
Example:
Base DN: DC=domain,DC=lan
User DN: CN=Mike Smith,CN=Users,DC=domain,DC=lan
Mike Smith not login, this is CommonName
ps. (Just connected, everything turned out)

I know, but it doesn't work for me (but it worked with clearos).

I'm an admin who has to upgrade servers as they are currently using Ubuntu Server 12.04LTS which goes end of life in April next year. So based on reviews of what Zentyal offers compared to other small business servers I thought I would give it a try.

As a newcomer I downloaded v5.0 to experiment with as a possible replacement. For the life of me I can not get it to work. It won't save any of my network settings (keeps saying permission errors, but will work with my settings until the machine is rebooted). None of the chosen modules load as they state they are reliant on the firewall module. The firewall won't run as it says the admin module is not running (even though I can access the admin via remote web once I have manually setup the network interfaces).

So I thought I would go back to trying the previous release (4.2), but it doesn't have some of the modules that I want. I went to the community and tracker but found that all of the latest issues raised for v4.2 have been closed stating that v5.0 is the only supported version. Yet the most recent documentation available from you is only v4.1, not even v4.2 yet alone v5.

Are you really serious about what you are trying to achieve here? As an open source operating system you should never (and I mean never ever) release a new major version of your OS and immediately orphan your existing user base. The previous version(s) should be supported until such time as users have had the opportunity to be well advanced in migrating to the latest version. After all they are going to be the ones who catch (and solve) a large number of bugs. Any admin worth their grain of salt will only trial the new software in parallel whilst keeping their systems operating on the older (supposedly) stable version.

To not even offer security fixes to the most recent previous version of your software is just asking for people to abandon you like you are doing to them.

A quick look at the number of downloads of the different versions on sourceforge shows just how few people are using the latest version. Of over 1200 downloads this week, only 176 were for v5. The most popular version on sourceforge is actually v3.0.x. This obviously says something about what you have done to the software since then.

Accordingly I am not going to bother with testing your software any further as to do so would leave me frustrated at the extremely poor support.

Thanks for wasting my time Zentyal.

Ha. Just checked over here while nethserver downloads. Been using Zentyal for ages, but too many features disappeared, software got too old, and I am not an Outlook user.

So long Zentyal. It's been fun, and its not you, its me.

Ok guys!

Let's talk for real now....

I don't get the sense to make Zentyal-Proxy available again, if you guys remove the AD integration!
This is nonsense!
If there is no AD integration, I thing Zentyal-Proxy is useless.

Hi, just a quick update for all 4.X users of the development edition interested in upgrading to 5.0:

You can already upgrade the zentyal-core package to the last version and the 5.0 upgrade button will appear in the dashboard.

This applies to 4.0, 4.1 and 4.2, users with previous versions will need to get to 4.X first as a different process. We may provide a direct upgrade from 3.2 to 5.0 in the future, but we can't guarantee a date.

Please remember to have a backup, snapshot or any other rollback method in case the upgrade goes wrong. And don't hesitate to report any problem you experience.

Thanks.

Users of other OU do not receive internal emails, but sent no problem to consumers from the default OU, but does not receive from them! Version 5.0.4 from 05-Feb-2017 00:40 !

EDIT: I apologize, after more tests found just if the domain is different from the default "zentyal-domain.lan" then mails do not get letters anyway if you have a domain "zentyal-domain.lan" everything is working normally even in other OU !

As it is possible to apply e-mail filtering?

Yes, mailfilter module is now back together with antivirus and jabber, more modules are probably coming soon ;)

Jose,
would it be possible for the Zentyal staff to give  us a hint which groupware solution we will be seeing going forward.  Openchange is dead.  Sogo is there in stand alone mode.  Is ZCP (Zarafa) an option?

Thanks

Guys, really thank you for the return of Jabber. Now we can move on to 5.

It is possible to rename the jabber module by xmpp module and update ejabberd?

Can you add issues on github?
The tracker is down: http://tracker.zentyal.org/

ejabberd is not good:
[critical] <0.444.0>@ejabberd:exit_or_halt:133 failed to start application 'p1_stun': {error,
                                        {"no such file or directory",
                                         "p1_stun.app"}}

Proxy seems to stop allowing access to any site as soon as you add a filter, anyone else have this issue?
if a user uses https rather then http it all works but i guess that is not proxied

Hello,

CUPS or printer sharing is missing in 5.0, is there any change that it will be adapted later on ?

Best regards,
Ian

Would also like to know this.
Was just considering updating my zentyal server from 4.0 to 5.0 and then saw that CUPS was removed, which is a MAJOR part of what we use our server for (AD/DNS/Printer). It has worked well since I debugged some issues with the yaml configuration files years ago and would really like to see it included again.

Hallo,

i have the same issue too.
Define a Filter Profile, result: All assigned Network Objects, also those they are not assigned to the Filter Profile, are "filtered".

Best regards
Thomas

Looking forward for your feedback and don't forget more updates will be coming among next weeks!

That is a joke, right ?

If Zentyal did care in the community feedback, we would know it already...
As for updates: those out of the box broken modules  (mail filters, proxy etc.), that have fixes published by the community in this forums, but never get fixed by the Zentyal team in the repos ...

If you are expecting the dev community to advocate for your product you are definitely doing it the wrong way.
