I think that I now what is may problem but I'm not sure how to fix it. :)

I have working VPN with few road warriors. Mail client is M.Ooutlook 2007 and everything is working fine when are they on site.

When they connect using VPN mail retrieving  doesn't work.

I tried to telnet server on port 110 but I'm getting error.

I assume that firewall is blocking port 110 for VPN.

Where and what rule should I add to make it work?

How is VPN connection treated on firewall side? (as internal to Ebox?, or external to Ebox?)

Regards

Installation and Upgrades / OpenVPN - Ubuntu
« on: May 04, 2010, 10:18:53 am »
I've setup eBox with OpenVPN and everything is working fine on windows machines, but on ubuntu it is not so bright.

I've installed openvpn and bridge-utils

when I connect with openvpn config_file_name.conf

everything is working fine for about minute or two and then stops. I can't access Internet or VPN server.

After I kill connection everything comes back (except VPN :) )

What should I check?

I can't see any errors in syslog. Before I installed bridge-utils there was error about dropping bridged network, now it's gone.

UFW is disabled, and Ubuntu is 9.10 desktop

I've installed Network-manager-openvpn, and kvnpc. Could they make any problems?

Thx

Installation and Upgrades / Ebox 1.4 Thunderbird - HELP!!!
« on: April 18, 2010, 11:48:31 pm »
Email is working fine using eGw and webmail.

In Ebox Mail server options

TLS for SMTP server:    is checked
Require authentication: is checked

but when I setup thunderbird 3.04 in Windows XP, I'm getting this message

Sending of message failed.
An error occurred sending mail: Unable to authenticate to SMTP server xxxx.local. The server does not support any compatible secure authentication mechanism but you have chosen secure authentication. Try switching off secure authentication or contact your service provider.

SMTP in client is configured as follows:

Server name: IP address of the server
port number: 465
user name: full email address
Connection security: SSL/TTS

any help would be appreciated.

Well backup/restore problem from me again  :)

My opinion is that backup/restore module must the most stable one, and new one in 1.4 is a good one.

I was doing some testing on real machine using eBox 1.4 with backup and restore, and here are my conclusions.

HDDs on server are configured using the automatic mode, not expert, so LVM modules are created.

I was trying to rsync backup to Windows XP machine with no success. Someone did that? (i've installed OpenSSH, copied rsync to OpenSSH directory, but after that rsync starts to complain about some /usr folder and quits).

My winning combination was scp, but problem was that scp backups data in folder where is OpenSSh installed (it tries to mount /home/username folder). That can be solved tweaking the client side passwd file in /etc folder (using cygdrive keyword).

Now I have my working backups :) Only problem I saw was that if you change the backups are done (scp, rsync, ftp) you loose connection to them in Restore files tab.

Now comes the magic.

My scenario was:

1. Server is dead
2. I have spare one but with disk off different size. (smaller)
3. I'm doing full restore with one full and one incremental backup.

I've followed steps from manual, and first thing to mention is:
- If you use use full image of grml you don't need to install duplicity because duplicity is included, why I'm saying this? If you do apt-get install duplicity it will install, and make no complains but you wouldn't be able to make restore because some silly error with temp folder

After that I've followed some steps from:

Code: [Select]
http://www.linuxforums.org/articles/lvm-baremetal-restore-step-by-step_397.html
with no luck because my disk was smaller, then I took exact the same one with same result.

What I've done:

1. copied MBR from "old" disk to "new" disk
2. did mkfs on /dev/sda1 and /dev/sda5
3. restored /boot/ directory to sda1
4. restored everything else in sda5
5. after reboot, I got an error 15 from grub that was solved recreating grub using Ubuntu LiveCD (does grml have solution for that ?)
6. after that I restarted server, and it started to complain about /dev/mapper directory that is missing (we deleted it in the last step of manual). Would restoring that directory solve the problem?
7. What about UUIDs in /etc/fstab file after restore?

Those UUIDs could be the problem with the plain install (everything on one disk). Am I right?

I will continue testing tomorrow and let you know. (if someone is interested :) )

I hope someone understood what I was trying to say and also hope someone tried to do same as me and succeeded :)

regards

Installation and Upgrades / Instalation setup help
« on: April 02, 2010, 12:57:02 pm »
Dear friends  :D

I'm setting up an server and just need few of your thoughts about hardware setup.

It would be in beginning an PDC, DMS, Fax server, EGW server

It is based on Intell P55 motherboard with i5 processor.

What would be your suggestion:

1. Have one disk for system, and two soft raid mirrored disks for user data
2. Have only two soft raid disks for everything
3. Have one system, one data disk and to daily mount and backup data to another disk

I heard that there are some issues with soft modems and p55 Intel chipset. Does anyone have some info about?

Regards

Installation and Upgrades / File sharing - worked now it doesn't
« on: March 25, 2010, 09:44:14 pm »
Well here is the situation.

I've setup an Ebox machine based on Ebox 1.2. It menth to be an file server for an radio station. They were broadcasting music from Ebox.
I've configured an softraid of two 1GB disk with the data and everything else was on third separate disk.

Everything worked well for few month's and now when they try to reproduce song servers stops for some time and then starts again. Now it happens very often.

I red some posts about soft raid and ebox speed problems, and I decided to degrade raid and try to work with only one disk.

But when I tried to do that I realized that when I click on Office->File sharing I get "An internal error related to a template has occurred. This is a bug, relevant information can be found in the logs." error

Could that cause my speed problems?

What can I do?

Any help appreciated.

Does Egroupware in Ebox support mydms?

Can I install MyDms (LetoDms) on ebox and will it work after update?

Installation and Upgrades / Ebox - Thinclient server
« on: December 04, 2009, 12:08:22 pm »
Is there any HowTo for installation of Ebox server as Thinclient server?

I see there is a option in DHCP configuration to setup next server and the "image" but it's so blurry to me :)

Can Ebox act as PXE server or PXE server must be aside?

Tnx

Installation and Upgrades / Instalation stops - second phase
« on: December 04, 2009, 11:56:16 am »
It happened to me few times in virtual machine and I wasn't paying attention on it, but it keeps happening in in real servers. Second phase of installation stops sometime in 65% and only solution is to restart PC.

There is no way (as I know) to continue second phase install so only solution is to do install from the beginning. :(

Any particular reason for that? How can I see where does it stop?

Tnx

« on: November 13, 2009, 02:15:03 pm »
It is a bit of-topic, but can anyone suggest me a good smarthost service provider to be used with ebox.

If it is a dumb question ... :)

Tnx

Installation and Upgrades / Ebox, eGroupware, restore problem
« on: October 21, 2009, 11:07:31 pm »
First of all I want to thank to all good people who were in developing of this excellent distribution.

Now my problems and conclusions.

1. I've installed fresh 1.2.1 version with all modules.
2. I did apt-update | apt-upgrade to newest releases.
3. created few users, putted some files in their's home directories
4. created a group
5. did full backup
6. deleted created users and groups
7. did full restore -> got error than some modules could'n be restored

Than I tried to investigate what happened

1. Users were created, but email account for the eGroupware isn't
2. If I try to create it again I'm getting message that email account already exist.

Also I've tried to change default language in eGroupware but I didn't succeeded. When I
do Instalation check in eGroupware Setup I receive message
Checking file-permissions of .././etemplate/doc for not world writable:
.././etemplate/doc does not exist !!!

Can those two things be connected?

Two parts from ebox.log that might be useful.
