I have a zentyal configuration 4.1
I have 2 virtual machine
VM1 = Windows 8.1 pro + office 2010
VM2 = windows 7 pro + office 2010
Both VMx are connected and logged into domain through DHCP
on VM2 ( win 7), outlook 2010 is configured well with autodiscover. outlook isOK
on VM1 (win

problems resolved. In fact the service nmbd and smbd are not started by upstart.
script have been overrided to be started manually.
The solution is :
rm /etc/init/nmbd.override
reboot
service is now started correctly at boot.
The question : How has added this file and for what reason ....
We ll see during test ....

i spent almost night trying nmbd service starting at boot without success. I am very far from being an unix user.
Last time i build a linux core i was 15 years old ( 35 five now....)
I am confusing between upstart an traditionnal sysvinit system for booting service...
may be i ll try zentyal 3.4 instead of 4.0 snif.

The problem is linked to a known bug on samba/unbuntu.

The service nmbd allowing network discover is not started.
First workaround is to launch nmbd service manually : sudo service nmbd start.
After Zentyal server is detected by windows machine.
I have not found currently how to correct the starting of service nmbd. Installation of samba 4.2 ?

Sure it's annoying.
I ve try many system for supporting file sharing
freenas => serveur is discovered by network (under win 7 & 8.1)
nas4free ==> same
synology => same
zentyal 3.4 ==> same
zentyal 3.5 ==> no more (dont look for configuration a long time)
zentyal 4.0 ==> no more (even by changing smb.conf.mas with addition of local master/preferred master/win support)
This is really annoying, because common user dont know how to add a network directory, they only know how to search on network their server.
without this function, i all have to mix installation with
- zentyal (dhcp, openldap, openvpn, may be groupware is enough stable)
- NAS (file sharing, owncloud, zarafa)

instead of zentyal as hostname may be should i configure zentyal.example.com
is there a difference ?

There is limitation in documentation.
Your hostname can not match your NETBIOS name, the NETBIOS name is generated using the left part of the domain, for example, if your hostname is 'zentyal' your domain can not be 'zentyal.lan', but it could be 'zentyal-domain.lan'
Does it means domain name has always to be : netbios-domain.name ?
i want to create a domain: example.fr (and use it for email ) ex: toto@example.fr
Is that possible ?
or does i have to create domain like : something-example.fr ? and email toto@something-example ?

I have installed zentyal (DHCP/DNS/file sharing /groupware)
I am able to connec windows 7 to zentyal domain, connect outlook retrieve mail ( and sometime calendar)
My user have acces to H: and own user directory.
But i am not able to share addtionnal directories. Morever zentyal is not detected by windows explorer (network)
I would to be able to share directory like a NAS synology ==> possible or not ?
help plz.

French / configuration samba et partage de fichier

J'ai monté zentyal
j'arrive a connecter mon windows 7 au domain et meme faire du outlook.
Par contre je n'arrive pas à partager des répertoires ( hormis le H: du user loggé).
Le serveur zentyal n'est pas détecter par windows explorer. Je voudrais partager des fichiers comme sur un NAS synology par ex.
Help -
