Title: Zentyal Server Migration
Post by: bob@brandt.ie on January 31, 2013, 12:08:13 pm
Lets take the following hypothetical situation:

I have a bog standard Zentyal 3.0 box running in production on an old server, but we want to migrate it to a new server. (it is both a file and mail server)

Is there a tools or a guide that can explain how to do this?  I'm assuming I could just build the new server, then just copy the files over?
Should I use the Import/Export Configuration option? Then what about the data?
How about doing a Backup and Restore?

Is it possible to just migrate the mail (including calendar, notes and contacts) and nothing else?

Clonezilla might be what you are after.  Take an "on the metal" backup and then restore it on a bare server.  Redo might work as well and has a much more friendly GUI.  It is possible to port over the email, calendars etc but you run into the UID problem.  I recommend  the full backup method first.  If that fails the next thing I would try is to use Zentyal config backup and restore.  Then copy the /var/lib/mysql directory over to get all of the Zarafa stuff.  The files served up by Samba should be tar ed copied over and untarred.
