Made all the settings on the web interface the same.

Copied everything from /var/lib/dhcp3 to the new server

activated dhcp module on new server

deactivated on old

Yes I want netbios. It is a wins server.

On the dashboard I can see users by share, which shows the user and their source machine, but it does not always show all the users and machines

Installation and Upgrades / Viewing Users Netbios Name and IP Address

I realize Zentyal is a very powerful piece of software, so I am hoping there is a way to do this.

Is there anyway I can view the Netbios name of the Computer, the user logged into it and its IP address?

I am trying to create an inventory of who is assigned to what machine.

Thanks!

Installation and Upgrades / Re: Dell OpenManage

at the moment the firewall is turned off... I am still trying to understand how to make a rule for a specific port and not a service

Your DNS does not matter. The only thing your computers need to see Zentyal as a PDC is the WINS. So set your DHCP to direct WINS / netbios to Zentyal.

I use it in my business. I have 6 sites and 120 people all connected to it. I use google mail however. The features of Zentyal I do use are DHCP, DNS, Domain Function, Samba Sharing and mail function for printers to send scans to email.

Installation and Upgrades / Dell OpenManage

Hey guys,

I am trying to get Dell OpenManage to run on my Zentyal 2.0 box. I believe I am running into a firewall issue, but i cannot seem to make it work.

Here is the Dell site for the instructions http://linux.dell.com/repo/community/deb/latest/

I Installed and started the web server. I then created a service on Zentyal web interface called dsm_om_connsvc with tcp/udp 1311

I edited the firewall Internal Networks to Zentyal and added a rule for 'any' to service dsm_om_connsvc

Still no go?

Anyone mind helping me out a bit? Thanks!

Got it. Thanks!

Hey guys,

2 parts to this.

First,

I accidentally deleted the user account 'Administrator' from the web interface.  :-[ I can no longer use Administrator for Samba. How can I fix this?

Secondly,

I have a Watchguard Firebox that I want to authenticate my users against for a VPN. It has LDAP support. Where do I find the necessary LDAP information such as organizational unit... etc.
Here are the watchguard instructions on their site.
http://www.watchguard.com/help/docs/webui/11/en-US/index_Left.html#CSHID=1244|StartTopic=Content%2Fen-US%2Fauthentication%2Fldap_auth_about_c.html|SkinName=Web%20UI%20%28en-US%29

THANKS!!!!!!

Installation and Upgrades / Zentyal Upgrade to 2.2
« on: June 30, 2011, 05:58:29 pm »
Will we be able to upgrade to the newer version of Zentyal without any issues? I would hate to think that I am forever stuck with the version I currently have  now if there are better improvements being made!

Installation and Upgrades / Cannot make the automatic backup
« on: June 13, 2011, 04:03:26 pm »
Cannot make the automatic backup. 500 Server closed connection without sending any data back

I received this error in an email. From what I can tell in Zentyal, nothing is out of the ordinary and nothing has changed. Does anyone have any clue what may be going on?

Thanks

You are trying to run before you can walk ;-)
Joining a domain requires that absolutely everything underneath is properly configured and running smoothly, however DNS is not working, so this is what we must solve first.

My assumptions are that you have installed and configured DNS on Zentyal, and that your server is "servidor".
You should configure you server to be able to use 127.0.0.1 as its nameserver. Make sure that it works.
Set DHCP and ensure that the parameters are correct, and that it passes your Zentyal server as the DNS to the clients.
Once this is done, connect a client to the network. Make sure that it gets the IP and that the new default domain and nameserver are your Zentyal server.

Yes, make sure you check your WINS. It needs to be the zentyal. DNS doesnt matter for joining the domain, only recognizing entries in zentyal. WINS is the most important.

root should be disabled. Don't use it. Instead build a user in your zentyal and give them samba admin rights from the web interface. That user will have permissions to join someone to the domain.

I would recommend you to read some more Zentyal documentation. You seem too obsessed with LDAP, but you can carry out many actions (actually, most of them) without getting your hands dirty with LDAP. Indeed, after you read the docs and play a little bit with it, most of your questions will answer themselves.

Make it easy on yourself and install the official zentyal release. Installing on Ubuntu from the repositories doesn't come out well.
