My guess is if you can setup a user and password on the device, your machines should be able to reach it directly also if is not a proper member of the domain?

What OS are your desktops using?
One of the limitations of Windows 10 Home vs Windows 10 Professional is the ability to join an AD domain.
With Windows 10 Home you may be able to use some resources on the domain (like connecting to a share with the domain user / password) but full domain membership won't be available.
When you set up Zentyal as a domain controller it is default behaviour to have dns running on it and becoming the gateway for your machines. You can use a different gateway and configure dns forwarders on Zentyal if you prefer to use another device.
As an example, you may want to configure your Zentyal local dns to hold the names and IPs of your machines, but configure one or more dns forwarders (say, Google's dns 8.8.8.
so that any dns query that is not for your local machines can be resolved by Zentyal via the forwarders. Do this and your computers will be able to resolve both local and internet addresses.
If you are adding a Windows 10 Professional pc to the domain, you will need the Zentyal Administrator credentials to perform the domain join; after that you should be able to login to the pc with any of the users you have configured in the Zentyal Users and Computers module.

I am afraid you did not choose an ideal configuration.
You should have named your Zentyal domain as a subdomain of company.com, say mainoffice.company.com.
This way your Zentyal dns would hold info on the internal machines (server1.mainoffice.comapany.com) and forward to an external dns for www.company.com as this is not in the "mainoffice" internal domain.

Directory and Authentication / Company rebranding. Change domain name? Create local DNS aliases?

Situation:
Zentyal-based domain "office.oldcompany.co.uk", where "office" is a subdomain of an existing internet domain that is in use and registered to us.
The company rebranded and we now also have a new registered internet domain "newcompany.com".
What should we do now?
A) Rename the zentyal domain to "office.newcompany.com"? (And would this imply creating new users and/or rejoining all machines to the new domain name?)
B) Simply add aliases to the Zentyal DNs so that say "pc1" has an alias of "pc1.office.newcompany.com"? (This should not require major changes)
We only use the "office" Zentyal domain for our internal machines - any service we'd need to run on the internet would be a "somethingelse.company.com" and would not impact Zentyal configuration.

If 2 (or more) domain controllers are not time synchronised, authentication will fail.
Check the configuration and time on all your domain controllers.
If the setup is correct and consistent, are your controllers physical or virtual machines?

Is it
A) 'Sent folder on'
or
B) 'Other: sent messages on' ?
Should be the second afaik....

How is the client getting an IP? Via DHCP? What is the DHCP server? Zentyal? Some router/firewall?
Is the client not connecting to the network or just not appearing on the local dns?
Here, for example, clients get an IP from a DHCP server (not Zentyal), or can be manually assigned one.
The clients cannot register on the local dns directly.
If we need the machines on the dns, I assign a fixed IP and add the hostname + IP to the Zentyal dns.

To be honest, I believe the correct procedure to do this should be in the documentation.
I can remove the machine from Active Directory Users and Computers on a Windows domain client, remove the dns entry for the deleted dc and check/correct if some domain computer has direct pointers to it.
Is this enough?
